World Languages and Cultures The Juniata Advantage ● Study Abroad: Juniata has study abroad programs on every continent except Antarctica and scholarship opportunities for international study. If you plan to pursue a Program of Emphasis (POE) in French, German, Russian, or Spanish and Hispanic Cultures, you will be required to study abroad. If you choose another POE, you can still incorporate language study as well as study abroad into your academic work. You can also choose to take part in international service learning trips to Mexico, Northern Ireland, Guatemala, and The Dominican Republic. ● Intern Abroad: Take advantage of extensive opportunities in international internships. Recent graduates have completed internships in a second language at NGOs, government offices, and private businesses in locations such as Paris, Strasbourg, Brussels, and Madrid. ● Make a Local Impact: Become a part of one of Juniata’s most successful outreach programs, Language in Motion, which encourages international students, heritage speakers, and students studying languages to give presentations to K-12 students throughout central Pennsylvania.
“I had never been abroad before, but Juniata gave me two opportunities to travel before my sophomore year. Also, I feel so comfortable at Juniata. My mom even asks me when I return to campus, ‘Did you make it home yet?’” —Dennis Wilt ’18 SPANISH WITH A SECONDARY EMPHASIS IN GERMAN
