The Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship provides students with limited financial means to pursue study abroad. Every year, a handful of Juniata students receive this prestigious national award. In addition to the Gilman Scholarship, which is a national grant, the College offers multiple funds and endowments to enable students to study abroad because we know that study abroad directly supports the College’s mission to empower our students to develop the skills, knowledge, and values that lead to a fulfilling life of service and ethical leadership in the global community.

Live and study in another country. Study abroad is one of the most exciting experiences of college. Juniata students study at universities in courses that meet graduation requirements for the same cost as studying at Juniata— whether you delve into history inside the medieval halls of The Philipps University of Marburg, Germany—one of our oldest exchanges—or gain professional experiences at one of our internship sites in France, Spain, or the U.K. In select programs, students have the opportunity to earn dual degrees: a bachelor’s degree from Juniata and an equivalent undergraduate or master’s degree from the partner institution. Our programs help you to gain the knowledge and skills you’ll need to succeed in today’s global society.

EAGLES ABROAD SCHOLARSHIP At Juniata College, we look for students who value being a citizen of the world in an increasingly global and diverse community. Eagles Abroad Scholarship recipients are granted the opportunity to participate in a fully funded, immersive language experience abroad for college credit, occurring in the summer after the first year of college. Juniata will also offer $3,000 of support for a full year abroad or $1,500 for a semester abroad at a Juniata approved site where you will be immersed in the target language and culture.
Students from all academic disciplines who are committed to developing advanced language proficiency in French, German, Russian, or Spanish and to studying abroad in a target culture for at least one semester are eligible to apply. Ten Eagles Abroad scholars have gone on to earn Fulbright awards after graduation since 2015. SCHOLARSHIPS TO SUPPORT STUDY ABROAD The Center for International Education staff assists students in identifying prestigious scholarships to offset the costs associated with study abroad. Juniata also offers institutional scholarships based on academic merit, area of study, and/or demonstrated financial need. Sam Wherley has received a Fulbright Fellowship to teach in Spain. Wherley will be located in Madrid and Segovia, teaching English at IE University.
Annaleigh Baremore is an Eagles Abroad winner and won a Fulbright English Teaching Award to live and work in Colombia. She will teach English at a university in Bogotá, Colombia.
Andy Meci has earned a Fulbright Fellowship to conduct epidemiological research in France at Réseau Sentinelles.
