Inthissection,wedidresearchonthepublictransportation locationandschedulewithinoursitebasedontheofficialMTA opendatasite. Throughmappingouttheinformationwecollected(bikelanes,bus routes,busstops,andsubwaystationroutes),weareabletodoa preliminaryanalysisonhowresidentsoftheareacommuteto closertoManhattanorBrooklyncenterAtlanticave.station).

TheridershipofB37andB103ismoderatecomparedtonearbybusrouteson4th Ave.andAtlanticAve.,whileB65hasthelowestridershipoutofallthreebusroutes. Furthermore,theridershipofB103andB65hasdecreasedby7%to11%inthepast year20202021.Thismaybeduetothefactthatbothrouteshavefewerstops(with stopsevery24blocks)comparedtoB37,whichhasstopsevery13blocks.Onthe otherhand,B37hasexperiencedariseinridershipof40%to54%from2020to2021. Overall,thesethreerouteshavebeenimpactedbythepandemic(in2020)andhave notfullyrecoveredtotheir2019levels,whichsawthehighestridershipfrom2016to 2021.

Bikeparkingisgenerallylackingon mostofthestreetintersectionson 3rdAve.Atlantichasthemostbike parkingwithsixspots,whilethe otherstreetshavelittletonobike parkingavailable.Thislackofbike parkingcoulddiscouragepeople fromusingtheirbikesasamodeof transportationinthearea.Infact, thismightbetheimpactfromthe bikelanespavementfadingaway onthemajorityroadof3rdave. Withoutaplacetosecurelypark theirbikes,peoplemaybeless likelytobiketotheirdestinationand insteadoptforothermodesof transportationsuchascarsor publictransit.

FireHydrants

Therearevaryingnumbersoffire hydrantsalong3rdAve.Atlantic hasthemostwiththreespots, whileDeanhasnone.

Althoughmostintersectionshave atleastonehydrant,thelackof hydrantsonsomestreetscould slowdownfirefighters'response timeinanemergency,asthey wouldneedtotravelfurtherto accessahydrant.Thismakesthe availabilityoffirehydrantscrucial forfiresafetyinthearea,aseasy accesscanhelpquicklyextinguish firesandpreventfurtherdamage tosurroundingproperty.

PoliceCallBoxes

Thereareveryfewpolicecall boxesavailableon3rdAve.Only

Bergen,Butler,andDegrawstreets haveonecallboxeach,whilethe resthavenone.Thislackofcall boxescouldbeaconcernforthe communityastheyareimportant forpublicsafety.Callboxes provideaneasywaytocontactthe policeincaseofanemergency andcanincreasethesenseof securityinanarea.Withouteasy accesstocallboxes,peoplemay feellesssecureandbehesitantto reportcriminalactivityorother emergencyespeciallyinsuchan openspaceas3rdAvewith factories.

Municipalseating/Benches

Nomunicipalseatingorbenches areprovidedatanyintersection along3rdAve.Thislackofseating infrastructuremaydiscourage peoplefromspendingtimein publicspacesandreducethe senseofcommunityinthearea.It mayalsocreatedifficultyforsome individuals,suchasolderadults, peoplewithdisabilities,orthose withlimitedmobility,whomayfind itchallengingtowalkorstandfor extendedperiods.

StreetDescription

RouletteIntermedium,whichisidentifiedbythewhitebuildingwitha staircaseontheright,isthestartingpointforoursite.Aswesetoff, we'llbemovinginahorizontaldirection,whichcorrespondstothe 3rdAvenue.

Theintersectionisbusywithbothpedestrianandvehicular traffic,asitisamajortransportationhub.TheAtlanticAvenue subwaystation,whichservesseveralsubwaylines,islocated justafewblocksawayfromtheintersection.Additionally,the LongIslandRailRoad'sAtlanticTerminalisalsolocatednearby, makingitapopularspotforcommuters.

Attheintersectionitself,thereareseveralbusinesses,including acoffeeshop,apharmacy,andaconveniencestore.The surroundingstreetsarelinedwithbrownstonehomes,aswellas newerapartmentbuildings.

Attheintersection,wherethereisillegalparkingonbothsidesofthe street,liestheBrooklynHighSchoolofArts,andAmazontrucksareseen usingparklanestodropoffgoods,indicatingtheneedforspeciallanesfor businessvehicles;additionally,thebikelaneis2.3feetawayfromthe curb,andanIPLInteractivePedestrianLight)hasbeeninstalledtocontrol traffic;theneighbourhoodalsohasaspeedlimitof20mph.

TheintersectionofPacificStreetand3rdAvenueinBrooklynis locatedintheneighborhoodofGowanus.Theareaisprimarily residential,withamixofapartmentbuildings,brownstones,and smallbusinesses.

Theintersectionitselfis relativelyquiet,with lessfootandvehicular trafficcomparedto someotherareasin Brooklyn.Therearea fewbusinessesatthe intersection,includinga smallconvenience storeandapizza restaurant.

Theintersectionitselfisrelativelyquiet,withlessfootandvehicular traffic.Attheintersection,you'llfindaresidentialbuildingandgas stations.Theareaiswell-connectedtopublictransportation,with theBergenStreetsubwaystationandseveralbuslineslocated nearby.TheGowanusExpressway,amajorhighway,isalsojusta fewblocksaway.

Thisareaisconstructionheavyandparkingwasrestrictedto noparkingatanytimeonthestreet.However,manycars drivedirectlyhalfwayontothesidewalktothegasstation.

Asshowntheplacemarkedofredcircle.)Carsshouldtake strict90degreeanglestothegasstationontheperipheralof thesidewalk,andspecialroutesdirectingtraffictothegas stationshouldbedesigned.

Despitethefactthatthebike lanesandbumpoutsremained intact,therewereissueswith improperplantgrowthinthe areawhencomparingthe GoogleMapviewtothereal world. Theintersectionitselfisbusywithcars,buses,andpedestrians. Therearecrosswalksateachcorner,andthesidewalksarewide enoughtoaccommodatefoottraffic.Thestreetlightsarealso well-placed,providingamplevisibilityforbothdriversand pedestrians.AttachedistheGoogleMapandrealworld comparisonregardingbumpoutsdesignedforparking;bikelane designedforbikes.Bothofthestreetdesignsareusedas expectedtoday.Justlikethebikelanesonpreviousstreets,no plantersorsolidbarriersareconstructedtoprotectthecyclists.
