When I think back over my time with JUMPSTART, as a graduate and now as a staff member, I can't help but think of the countless numbers of you who make daily sacrifices for the work we are doing. Your prayers and commitment to us and those we serve have made this life-changing model a reality. Your impact reaches far beyond one prisoner or returning citizen. It extends for generations.
What began in 2007 with a small group of volunteers ministering to the prisoners at Tyger River Correctional Institution in Enoree, SC, has now grown to serve 18 prisons across our state. This past year, over 700 men and women participated in our Inside and Outside Programs. Our leadership team and staff has grown to 14 individuals who work tirelessly bringing the hope of the Gospel to those living in brokenness and despair inside our state prisons. And as you know, the work doesn't end within those desolate walls. With your support over this past year, we far exceeded our expectations for impact. Some of our highlights for the year were:
• The Inside Program resumed after shutdown due to Covid
• Three homes were completed at JUMPSTART's Restoration Village
• JUMPSTART Landscaping officially launched
• We participated in leadership development with Stand Together Foundation at the Catalyst Summit in Austin, TX (JUMPSTART was selected as a Catalyst Partner in 2021!)
Throughout the pages of this booklet, we are excited to share details of these successes, stories of the lives you've impacted, and our dreams for the coming year. As you thumb through these pages, I hope you will join us... in thanking God for his kindness and provision over the past year, and in praying that he will continue to give us wisdom for the years ahead.

Because of your generosity and partnership, we continue to disciple current and former prisoners and assist with reentry to society. We are at work providing support for spiritual, educational, employment, healthcare, housing, and family relationship needs.
The Inside Program
The Inside Program introduces participants to Jesus and helps them discover a greater purpose for their lives by providing:
• A 40-week intensive discipleship process
• Unique, peer-to-peer assessments that ensure accountability and drive growth
• Class curriculum focused on transforming lives through: worship, fellowship, discipleship, mentoring, serving others, living with purpose, and reentry education
• An emphasis on daily living out our core values of accountability, responsibility, and submission to authority
The Outside Program
The Outside Program provides a safe and stable environment for people in transition after incarceration. This 12-month program offers our participants:
• Low-cost, safe and stable housing with access to physical, mental, and dental healthcare
• Individual case management, mentoring, and financial stability training
• Transportation to service providers, employment, and shopping
• Permanent and meaningful employment at a living wage
• Spiritual growth opportunities

You hopebring to the hopeless.
The effects of COVID-19 far outlasted the initial happenings of 2020. Like countless programs and events, our Inside Program was shut down to volunteers and a reopening date was uncertain. As those spring days slowly crept by, we began to wonder when or if we would ever be able to return to face-to-face instruction within the correctional facilities.
However, while we were feeling stonewalled on the outside, God showed his faithfulness by having already prepared leaders on the inside. Inside Mentor Leaders stepped up in seven of 15 facilities and continued class instruction and discipleship across the state. How exciting and encouraging it was to know that these men and women were living out their training and being obedient to the call of God on their lives during a time when they were needed the most.
2020 ended.
And 2021 came... and went.
And finally, June 15, 2022 — the long-anticipated day arrived and the Inside Program resumed! This was not only the start of a transformational journey for participants, but also a long-awaited reunion for our outside volunteers.
You give safe places to restart.
We broke ground on Restoration Village in 2021 and the progress into this year has been thrilling to watch. Located in Wellford, SC, this 26-acre campus will serve as a beacon of hope, love, and opportunity for men and women returning to our community from incarceration. It will also serve as the national model for cities and states who want to help returning citizens have a future greater than their past.

We celebrated three completed homes this year. The homes connect via walkways centered by a community pavilion. This space provides an inviting area for residents to share a meal or just hang out and enjoy each other's company.
The first three 3-bedroom homes were completed this year, and construction for the overall development of the village continues to move forward as planned. Despite the grueling heat of the South Carolina summer, July brought a buzz of excitement as we watched the first residents move in and occupy the first completed home.
Our 2023 plans for Restoration Village include four additional homes, an opportunity center that will have classrooms, a commercial kitchen for teaching culinary arts, and event space for community events and worship. Read more about these projects and how you can be a part on page 15.

JUMPSTART Landscaping launched in the spring of this year. Operated by JUMPSTART alumni, participants, and others in the community who are eager to be employed for a purpose more than profit, this social enterprise provides meaningful opportunities through living-wages.
JUMPSTART Landscaping offers an abundance of services such as mowing, trimming/edging, mulch/ pine straw installation, pruning, debris removal, weed control, leaf removal, and irrigation startup, monitoring, and winterizing.

Stand Together Foundation is dedicated to supporting bottom-up solutions that empower those in poverty. As reported last year, JUMPSTART was selected as one of 13 nonprofit partners to join Stand Together Foundation's 2021 Catalyst Program. This annual program is designed to help top-performing nonprofits deepen their impact and transform more lives. The six-month curriculum includes individualized leadership and management coaching, access to a peer network for advice and partnerships, and a variety of legal services and software tools to increase effectiveness.
In September of 2021, Cary Sanders, our Executive Director, and Don Williams, Co-Founder of JUMPSTART and Director of Community Relations, attended Stand Together Foundation's leadership training in Washington, DC. And in March of this year, Cary, Don, and Tiffany Crossby, our Director of Mission Advancement, traveled to Austin, Texas to attend Stand Together Foundation’s Catalyst Summit.
In addition to the training and coaching we have received through this program, Stand Together Foundation also surveyed 100 of its Catalyst Partners. Of those surveyed by Stand Together Foundation, JUMPSTART ranked 1st for the lifetime value we create for those we serve! We are excited to learn about how we can implement best practices to better serve our participants through this continued partnership with Stand Together Foundation.
Through the survey conducted by Stand Together Foundation (sent to program participants and graduates), JUMPSTART ranked 1st (out of 100 Catalyst partners) for the lifetime value we create for those we serve!

Employment Program
JUMPSTART’s employment program strengthens company workforces by providing qualified, dependable workers. Job responsibilities are emphasized through our relationships with local companies in the community where our retention rate is 90%. Restoration Village |
Four 6-Bedroom Homes
With three homes completed this year, we have 18 more homes to construct. These 6-bedroom homes will feature three shared bathrooms, a community kitchen, a dining room, living room spaces, and a covered patio. These homes, as part of the Outside Program, will not only provide housing and transportation for our graduates, but also support, accountability, and a proven path towards success.

Opportunity Center
This multi-purpose building will be used to host a variety of events for our residents and program participants. Its versatility will meet many of our current needs: staff offices, a space for mentor training for our Outside and Inside programs, a commercial kitchen for meal prep and culinary classes, and a chapel.
The chapel will serve as a hub for community events, fundraisers, services, and classes. These classes include, but are not limited to: Bible studies, life skills classes, workforce development training, financial literacy classes, and other evidence-based programming. The chapel will also be a permanent home for JUMPSTART graduations and other events, reducing annual operating costs by thousands. We anticipate this environment for community engagement will provide participants with transformational opportunities.
