Smartphone Buying Guide The world is becoming smarter, more inter-connected and more digital by the day. To top that, the market is flooded with options & choosing the right Smartphone can be confusing. To help you make a decision, here are some points to consider:
OPERATING SYSTEM There are only two major smartphone operating systems that you can find today: Android and iOS. Both of these are easy to use and offer a variety of apps and games. Things to note: • Android offers more choices within brands and prices, better customization options, and Google’s suite of services with apps like Gmail, YouTube and Maps built-in. They also feature Google Assistant and manufactures’ own virtual assistants. • Apple’s iOS on the other hand has a more uniform experience within Apple’s ecosystem. If you already have an iPad or a MacBook an iPhone is probably a good choice. iPhones have a large choice of peripherals and accessories, for customers to choose from.
DESIGN • You use your smartphone throughout the day, so get a phone that feels comfortable in one hand. Walk over to our store and pick up the phone of your choice to experience it. • Watch out for the position of the fingerprint sensor, ease of typing and taking pictures with one hand. The right design must look and feel good.
DISPLAY
6”
• Look for the right screen resolution. A full HD display or higher with a high PPI (Pixel Per Inch) are great. When it comes to size, a 5 or 6-inch screen is an ideal fit for your pocket. • Display Technology: AMOLED and OLED screens have better contrast and color accuracy than LCD screens. Leading Industry brands of smartphones today use AMOLED or OLED.
HD
PERFORMANCE • Processor: A faster processor allows you to multitask and assures quicker phone responsiveness and operation. Octa-core and above processors are ideal for heavy usage (gaming and photography). If you are on a budget but still want to game and multi-task smoothly, Quad core or Dual Core smartphones are also a good option. • RAM: Higher the RAM, better the performance. Try to run different apps on your prospective smartphone in a store to test it. Gaming and multi-tasking may need a 4GB RAM or higher.
CAMERA • Good camera performance is not only about a high megapixel count. Cameras for food photography are very different from cameras meant for portraits or selfies. Depending on your usage, you will need a certain lens, aperture and zoom. Test the camera yourself to see which one gives you the best color accuracy, clear images and all-round performance • Smartphones these days come with a variety of lenses for versatility. Features like night-mode, AI camera, Telephoto lens with higher zooms are currently trending. Look for these in your prospective smartphone.
BATTERY LIFE & STORAGE • If you are a light user then 16 or 32GB internal memory should be enough. If you are worried about running out of space, either get a 64GB or an expandable MicroSD card slot. Gamers and music enthusiasts may want to opt for 128GB or higher. Today’s phones come with a built-in storage of 1TB as well. • The mAh rating gives you some indication of battery life, but the capacity is affected by factors such as screen size, resolution, processor, and software, so you need to look beyond the number. You could speak with our sales person to give you some guidance.
