Learning
Gōlakdhādhā School Educational Institution Location: Not Specific Mazes and playful paths, like the sinuous threads of a grand tapestry, weave enchantment into the tapestry of a child’s mind. They become allegories of life’s labyrinthine journey, where each twist and turn sparks curiosity, beckoning forth the spirit of inquiry. Through games, they learn the art of strategy, embracing both triumph and tribulation with a resilient heart. These intricate passages cultivate patience, sharpening the blade of discernment. In the dance between choice and consequence, they learn the profound lessons of causality. Thus, within the folds of mazes and mirthful paths, young minds encounter not mere diversion, but a profound odyssey of intellectual and emotional growth, awakening the dormant seeds of wisdom that shall bloom in the gardens of their future.

Circular Arrangement Study Round classrooms, with their curved architecture, offer a more inclusive and conducive learning environment for both elementary and high school students. Perched on the threshold of eternity where sea and sand converge, this Cox’s Bazar retreat transcends bricks and mortar, becoming a vessel for contemplation. The site being beside the marine drive, has uninterrupted view towards the sea. The design decisions were derived from an urge to frame the sea through panoramic glass windows and openness towards the sea.

Zero Carbon Bamboo Building Project A core team led by Professor Zainab Faruqui Ali, Chairperson Department of Architecture, SoAD, BRAC University is providing overall supervision, guidance, and coordination of the construction of zero-carbon prefabricated bamboo buildings built by students, alumni, academics, practitioners in different parts of the country. This collaborative project is progressing at a considerable pace.

In the heart of Rangamati, where time once stood still, Bor Porong emerged as a cosmic reminder of the delicate balance between creation and dissolution. The event unraveled like an ancient parable, whispering secrets of existence to those who cared to listen.

The story Goes like this,
The kaptai lake, as we know, wasn’t a thing. For people from outside the region, the lake may be a place for spending good times, but to the local indigenous Chakma people it is the site of a heartbreaking event called Bor Porong, or “the great exodus.” Construction of the reservoir for the hydro-electric plant began in 1956 by the Government of East Pakistan. As a result, 54,000 acres (220 km2) of farmland in the Rangamati District went underwater and created the lake. The hydro-electric project was funded by the United States. The project was finished in 1962. International Engineering Company and Utah International Inc. received the contract for construction of the dam. The dam is 670.8 meters long, and 54.7 meters high. The dam has a 745 feet (227 m) long spillway containing 16 gates. Through the spillway 5,250,000 cu ft/s (149,000 m3/s) of water can pass.
The land that went underwater as a result of the dam construction, was 40% of the total arable land in the area. Along with that, 29 square miles (75 km2) of the Government-owned forest, and 234 square miles (610 krn2) of other forest land went underwater. About 18,000 Shagu families with a total of almost 100 thousand people were also displaced. The palace of the king of the Chakmas was also flooded and is now under water.

In our endeavor to breathe life into the ancient sunken city of Rangamati, we embarked on a journey of rediscovery guided by the wisdom of local elders and the remnants of a bygone era preserved within the city’s old maps. Conversations with the venerable residents unveiled a treasure trove of memories, each anecdote a thread weaving together the tapestry of the city’s vibrant past. Their recollections painted vivid pictures of bustling markets, grand temples, and the daily rhythms that once echoed through its cobbled streets. Alongside these oral histories, we unearthed the old city map, a parchment of antiquity that bore the imprints of forgotten alleyways and architectural wonders. Layer by layer, through the amalgamation of spoken narratives and tangible relics, we pieced together a mosaic of the city’s former glory, poised to ignite the imagination and rekindle the spirit of Rangamati’s submerged heritage.

Monologue Interior design of a cafe Location: Dhaka “Monologue” is a cafe where every detail frames a conversation. It invites patrons to share their unique stories in an elegantly curated space. Muted tones and ambient lighting set an intimate tone, while art-lined walls encourage contemplation. Seating allows for both solitude and camaraderie. Each sip and bite is crafted for savored moments and meaningful exchanges. “Monologue” isn’t just a cafe; it’s a sanctuary for shared narratives.
