Equator Monument Astronomical Park

“Design of the Equator Monument Astronomy Park with proximity design high-tech architecture in Pontianak, West Borneo Regency”

Student Advisor Ir. Henry Feriadi, M.Sc., Ph.D. Irwin Panjaitan,

Typology Science, Landscape

Area 30.000m2

Project Background

Indonesia has great potential in the use and development of astronomy education, supported by Indonesia's geographical condition at the equator and has three time zones (WIB, WITA, WIT). However, considering the current conditions, the development of astronomy in Indonesia still tends to be neglected by the government. The lack of places that provide astronomical information is a factor that causes people to lack knowledge of astronomical information, seeing that public interest is quite high in the eld of astrology.

The Equator Monument is one of the icons of tourist destinations in the city of Pontianak and even the province of West Kalimantan which was formed through astronomical observations and is quite in demand by national and foreign tourists.

Seeing Pontianak City as an Equatorial City that has the potential to become an area for the development of astronomy education, astronomical educational activities such as data on the earth & and the solar system, as well as the phenomenon of the culmination of the sun which is an annual attraction at the Equator Monument, so that it can provide information about the origin of the establishment of the Equator Monument which is known as the Equator Monument.

With a radius of 2 kilometers, there are 16 schools, including10elementaryschools,2juniorhighschools, and 4 high schools . Become one of the potential developmentofthemonumentarea.

The image of the area that is formed also affects the behavior around the area, that the activity/activity factor is the most inuential thing in an element of the city'simage.
