CAFE Course - Architecture Design IV Prof. ALFRED DRAGANI Semester - SPRING 2020 Site - 16th & Spruce St Philadelphia

In the next three projects, there was an emphasis on sustainable properties. Each building contains a unique sustainable feature. The cafe features a double skin facade along with a rainwater harvesting roof. The roof is folded to direct water flow from the roof down to the cistern. The water collected is utilized as gray water for the building. The structure contains three floors, the bottom level contains the basement. The basement features the bathroom and an atrium allowing light to enter. The ground level contains a cafe and an indoor and outdoor seating area. In addition, the upper level contains office space, a terrace giving users access to the outside environment, two meeting rooms, and a workspace.

A RT GA LLERY Course - Architecture Design IV Prof. Alfred Dragani Semester - Spring 2020 Site - 16th St and S Spruce ST, Philadelphia, PA

The Art gallery utilized the same double-skin facade design along with the sustainable structure. The two key sustainable features for this building are the green roof and the daylighting. The unique feature about the green roof is how the roof slopes down to terminate into the environment giving the connection to nature. The building features two levels and rooftop access. Users can access the roof and be able to occupy the amphitheater. The ground level features an exhibition space geared to display a diversity of artwork. Users can observe statues and paintings, and get the impression of how the building is built with its exposed wood structure. The shape of insertions on the ceiling allows for maximum daylight to come into the space.

H IGH R I S E S T UDI O TOWER Course - Architecture Design IV Prof. Alfred Dragani Semester - Spring 2020 Site - 16th St and S Spruce ST, Philadelphia, PA

The High Rise Studio Tower is the final project on 16th and Spruce st. An eight-level high-rise residential building featuring five studio apartments, a Mezzanine within each studio, a basement, and a sky garden located at the top of the building. The High Rise utilizes the full efficiency of the double-skin facade with the perforated wall. The building utilizes operable windows to promote airflow on the south facade, wind flows through the perforations. In addition, the double-skin facade helps to reduce direct sunlight from the south. Located on the east and west side of the building is a louver system blocking direct sunlight. The structure is comprised of CLT panels and timber construction.

Sea Level Year - 2070

The Climate change institute is an institutional building situated on a pier. The building works with the rising sea levels for the next 100 years. It utilizes the water to enhance the user experience while ensuring the building will be accessible. The first part of the project was the site design. Designing solutions to bring individuals to the pier as it has been disconnected from Philadelphia. There was an emphasis on designing for the individuals using the building, whether it was the individual working there, a tourist, or an individual that works at the location. The next step was designing a building that works with the site while taking into consideration sea level rise.
