AUCTION 26 APRIL 2014 — ANTWERP — SPONSOR BROCHURE

Entrepreneurs Without Frontiers: profit for people and planet EWF is a non-profit organization founded by Flemish entrepreneurs in 2006. The objective was to do something as entrepreneurs about climate change. After a brainstorming period of 2-3 years, it was going to be forest plantations in the Sahel. Last centuries’ great droughts during the seventies caused many woods to disappear and the (Sahara) desert to extend southward. During the recent years, this problem has worsened due to climate change. EWF means to contribute to the solution, but only if it’s favorable to everyone: the planet, the local population and the donator. Hence, the slogan: Profit for People and Planet. Meanwhile, EWF already realized five forests successfully in Burkina Faso. Awkward are the many and unforeseen virtuous consequences for the planet and populations. The first forests are now almost four years old and the positive results are already all but too clear. For the environment and the planet, the forests’ influences are evident. With the forests regenerating, desertification is halted. Biodiversity rockets. 600 ha of desert returned to woodlands. For the local population, agriculture is more feasible since water is retained favoring higher yields. Herders get cattle grazing among the high grasses and cereals which now grow between the trees.

More children attend school, thanks to the increased incomes of the local villages. In Lilengo village (Gorom Gorom – Burkina Faso) the income per capita simply doubled. For the investor, the Kyoto-protocol offers the opportunity to render a return on his investment. Forests offset CO2, one of the main greenhouse-gas. Kyoto raised a CO2 certificates system. It’s a sort of market where certificates can be traded. This way, the donator earns his investment back. Finally, everyone finds his interest in the plantation of forests in the Sahel. The planet, the local population and the investor. You can find more info on www.ozg.be

An art auction, because life depends on it… On 26th April, creations by Belgium’s foremost contemporary artists will be auctioned. Curator Flor Bex composes the auction with Mon Bernaerts as its auctioneer. A preview of the works are expected to be first exposed in Antwerp’s prestigious MAS galleries. Neighboring Felixpakhuis shall be the setting of the auction on 26th April.

Why an art auction? Why an art auction? Because we hope to gather the means to support the project which we so strongly believe in. But why shall we seek artists’ advises? Why not focus on fortunate collectors, big industrials, powerful politicians or popular sportsmen? Let’s address artists as people’s opinions and sensibilities always tend to fall back on what art conveys them. Each and every important event of an individual’s life is punctuated by art from high joys to deep sorrows. It’s not that art can offer concrete solutions. Art reaches out to our autonomous thinking, exalting our capacity to shape the world to the image we desire. Art makes us aware that we are capable to act. But also because artists allow us to think out of the box, to conceive creative solutions out of the social expectations. Art offers us unexpected perspectives. It teaches gazing at the world otherwise.

In short: art lets us reveal our truly divine potential. Lest we don’t invest this opportunity where it belongs!

Which artists? KIDS

Children on duty A Sioux chief once spoke those wise words about sustainability “We don’t inherit the earth from our forefathers, we receive it as a loan from our children”… Thus: Caring for the earth today, is ensuring our descent a bright future! Therefore do we integrate the future generation’s voice within ARTForAIR. And a voice do they have, because the children do bluntly know what’s going terribly wrong with our precious planet through global warming. Therefore it wasn’t difficult to motivate Dimitri Leue, the ambassador of the school project to tickle the interests of 3000 kids spread among seven primary schools. Drawing, painting and modeling with recycled materials, the school kids foster a strong voice: “We make art for a better climate” did they yell after visualizing an introduction movie with Dimitri Leue. In October, various partner artists of ARTForAIR went to inform and coach the children in creating their works. Flanders’ Nature protection association Natuurpunt helped raising consciousness about the climate crisis through nature treks. In the schools, the children went enthusiastically about workshops on “Confessing colour”. They orchestered music with disposable material and sang famous tunes recomposed to deal with the climate problematic. In the Middelheim museum, the kids discovered art as an inspiration for their own creations. In het Middelheimmuseum ontdekten de kinderen kunst als inspiratiebron voor hun eigen creaties. These 3000 enthusiast artists make a call of their own for sponsoring towards their families and friends alike. Their contribution was promoted through the public radio “Studio

Brussels” end year charity event of “Music for Life”. The art creations are displayed on the event’s website since 2nd December in the “ARTForAIR Kids” section. The godfather artists make a first selection among the school works. We hope mostly that these works by the children make us think about the future of our planet. Finally, ten children works guided by the masters shall be auctioned along the masterpieces constituting the main message of the event…

Dimitri Leue – ambassador ARTForAIR & OZG: “I’m concerned! Not directly for me, but for you and your children! You are the future, and it’s not going well with mother nature… So: we are going to do something together: ARTForAIR for KIDS!”

Kas (9 years old) “The Earth in great danger…”

Why sponsor? Art and climate: Two fields which have a positive impact on your enterprise. But ARTForAIR is more than a charity action. It also aims at sparking an indefinite discussion on the future of our children, humanity and the planet… artists are not bound by scientific laws and are therefore free to conceive themes such as global warming creatively. This discussion shall also be started in the event catalogue. Through sponsoring, do you or your enterprise take part in this debate. And there are the forests which – thanks to the sponsoring – grow in the Sahel. In this context, sponsoring is taking action. Action as an entrepreneur.
