Comic Pillar
Julia Woch
Cosmic Pillar is a sculptural work that explores the intersection of nature and architecture through the lens of Slavic mythology and cosmology. The piece stands as a physical and symbolic column, a testament to the sacredness of trees in ancient cultures. The sculpture’s form is inspired by the oak, revered in Slavic tradition as a cosmic symbol, divided into three realms: Nawia (the roots, representing the past and the dead), Jawia (the trunk, symbolizing the present and earthly life), and Prawia (the crown, connecting to the divine).
Constructed from sustainable materials, Cosmic Pillar also comments on the current environmental crisis and the impact of deforestation. The artwork’s tactile surface invites viewers to physically engage with the piece, echoing the theme of the exhibition by emphasizing the importance of touch in experiencing and understanding art.
