TOPIC EXPLORATION & PROPOSAL

Escapism is a coping mechanism for many when dealing with issues they experience in their daily lives. The proposed distraction hub demonstrates the different ways in which people can escape, thanks to the research gathered from a workshop. Various unique environments were created, varying from indoor to outdoor and digital to physical environments.

TOPIC EXPLORATION AND PARTICIPATORY WORKSHOP

Videos were created to help explore the topic further. I realised that model making was a great engagement tool, prompting discussions about the subject and producing new ideas. Seeing the potential in the medium the idea for a participatory model making workshop was created and tested

A participatory workshop was created for Collyhurst locals to take part in, allowing them to develop an alternate masterplan using escapist ideas. Created models were used as individual parts to generate a story driven world.

PROJECT BRIEF

An existing community building was repurposed into a multigenerational art and community space as a response to the research gathered from interviewing locals and understanding Accrington’s history and culture. Much of the existing façade was maintained and a new internal structure and extension was incorporated, creating a creative space where locals can socialise and learn new skills with one another.

The model demonstrates what the different layers of the existing wall are from it’s outer ashlar brick finish to it’s internal plaster wall finish. The ballustrade screen is a sheet of perforated metal, acting as a half see through material.

PROJECT BRIEF

A multigenerational housing scheme acts as a community hub which helps connect the old and new elements of Accrington, where more affordable housing has been incorporated to help suit the needs of different people and families. Additionally, community spaces have been created allowing people to congregate, socialise and start new businesses.

The model was used as a study for the hierarchy of the facade language, utilising multiple depths that would petrude in and out in addition to a combination of solids and voids.

FACADE DETAIL & CONSTRUCTION SECTION

The main building structure is comprised of a concrete structure for the ground floor and a CLT structure for the first floor and above. Accrington brickwork was used match with the town’s existing architectural language and materiality.

MASTERPLAN

Creating new connections between the proposal and the existing town centre, encouraging new interactions between the old and new buildings. Providing new facilities and activities that cater to both the older and younger generation, creating a space that allows different generations to mingle with one another.

Coordinating with external consultants to accommodate the required facilities and follow the correct building regulations

The Architecture Services Department required a school design which would help provide enough resources for both primary and secondary school facilities. Three schemes were proposed to provide options for the department to choose from, the first was a scheme that had completely seperate facilities, another that was completely shared and a final one that had the flexbility of being shared or divided up between the primary and secondary schools.

Preparation of tender drawing package

A renovation project for an International school for Secondary school students, using the school logo colours as an inspiration for the interior design. Many of the graphics and furniture elements of the school facilities used a blue and grey colour scheme to compliment with the school’scharacteristics and history. During the process of this project, I helped with the interior design and graphics design for the walls and furniture to be used by the different facilities as shown in the drawings.

Preparation of tender drawing package

A new build residential project for two houses based in Sydney. During the process of the project, we were tasked with creating and developing the forms of the house as well as finalising the tender package. Axonometric diagrams and perspective views were produced to help visualise the greenery and landscaping of the proposal which acted as a sense of privacy between the two houses.
