Sydney House Project Site Location: Sydney, Australia The form of the two houses were created based on the idea of having the componenets stacked on top of one another to create a ‘superimposition’ and to follow the form of the slope on the site. The style of the houses was also designed with heavy inspiration from ‘Contemporary Orientalism’ with a twist of Modern Australian Architecture. During the process, of this project, I was tasked with helping creating and developing these forms in the house and using greenery to help create a sense of privacy between the two houses as well as the entire neighbourhood. The greenery and landscaping in the back garden also helped create a much more comfortable and habitable environment for users.

YEAR OUT WORK EXPERIENCE Sydney House Project and Sear Rogers International School Sear Rogers International School Site Location: Tsuen Wan, Hong Kong A renovation project for an International school for Secondary school students, using the school logo colours as an inspiration for the interior design. Many of the graphics and furniture elements of the school facilities used a blue and grey colour scheme to compliment with the school’s characteristics and history. During the process of this project, I helped do the interior design and graphics design for the walls and furniture to be used by the different facilities as shown below.

YEAR OUT WORK EXPERIENCE 2 ASD Primary and Secondary School

A grand ramp was placed into the centre of the scheme to help act as a central circulation point and viewing deck at the top

Every group of fins were placed in different areas to help create diversity in facade composition

Mutiple staircases added for ease of access and the two main staircases as main access points to the main hubs of school Fins were used to help create a diversity in the facade deisgn, framed views and a mix of openings and closings

Site Location: Tseung Kwan O, Hong Kong The Architecture Services Department required a school design which would help provide enough resources for both primary and secondary school facilities. Three schemes were also required to help provide options for the department to choose from, the first being a scheme that had completely seperate facilities, one that was completley shared and the one that could be shared and divided up between the primary and secondary schools. The scheme that I mostly involved in was the one which had both schools completely share their facilities with one another. The inspiration behind the design of this scheme included the idea of a single natural curve that would unite and the schools spaces with one another.

ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN Design Proposal and Facilities Site Location: Cliftonville, Margate, Kent A site analysis and local interview with local communities was conducted at the start of this project to gain a better understanding of what kind of commmunity hub we were trying to create for the people of Margate. My aim was to create a new centre in Margate that responded to our modern age of technology. The solution was creating a university of game design which would help provide jobs and promote Margate as a new digital hub in the UK, thus giving Margate a new purpose.

By creating this new attraction to Margate, I was hoping on creating this new campus as a place in which people could express their passion for gaming through learning, designing and art. The building design also acts as a community spot for the local community as well as a point of circulation in which people can access the mutiple site levels with ease thanks to the roof walkway design as shown.

Development Model

Modelmaking Development Concept Models

Understanding the existing site’s different levels, access and views and trying to preserve and reuse those elements

A development model was built to help test and develop the idea of a continuous roof and any other possible access points for people to be able to access each level rather than just the highest and lowest point of the site

An open facade was created to help provide views form the classroom area, stituated closest to the seaside and provide a sense of comfort for people when indoors

Using the concept of a courtyard to help create a central connection for all the circulation and creating new views and access

This model was made by using parts of the exisitng buildings and the different levels to help create a continuous roof to help connect all these existing elements

The model also helped allow tests in the form and design of the building to create something much more natural

Tests were made to figure out how the roof would connect to the campus and promenade levels. The decision made was through the use of a sloped green roof with some landscaping features

Using different circulation diagrams to help define the layout of the masterplan as well as how people will move around the site and look accross it.

The main aim of this module was to help us understand urban buildings in Margate. By learning about the historical context and adapting the the existing public squares to benefit the community as well as revitalising the Theatre Royal’s role in the town. To help reinvent the public squares in Margate, I proposed different roles for the public squares so that they would become a benefit for the existing community. For example, Hawley Square as shown was assigned the role of a playground. To help revive the Theatre Royal, an extension with new materiality and large glass openings in the facade helped create a connection between the old and new parts of the Theatre.

COLLECTIVE DWELLING

Analysis and Proposal

Site Location: Sandwich, Kent One of the main objectives of this project was to try and bring the architectural language of the existing buildings in the town of Sandwich with a modern twist into our proposal for a new residential neighbourhood comprised of 30-40 new housing units.

Sketches and elevation drawings were done to get a better grasp of Sandwich’s architecture. The proposed masterplan which I based off of circulation and ease of access to residents was first put together before the design elements of the house. Many of the elevation and building design features shown were a combination of the different design elements found in Sandwich with a more modern and simplified character to create a new sense of character in the residential neighbourhood and also a form of similarity for locals.

Site Location: St Stephen’s Canterbruy,Kent This project comprised of both a landscape masterplan and a building design which would compliment one another. The inspiration of designing a dog shelter was taken from the numerous dog owners in Kent.

To create a deeper connection between the building and the surrounding landscape, curves and natural forms were used in the building design to create a much more natural flow.

Many different types of gardens and facilities were implemented into the masterplan to help create a variety in the journey in which dogs and their owners could experience.

CLIMATE (Architecture and Landscape) Sunlight and Ventilation strategies Site Location: St Stephen’s Canterbruy,Kent Apart from doing the masterplan and building design for the dog sanctuary, environmental strategies were also considered when designing the landscape as well as the building geometry. The consideration of these factors allowed a much more environmentally friendly and comfortable site to be created. The courtyards as shwon in the diagrams below helped imrpove the building circulation and the roof overhang helped provide solar shading for people walking around the buidling facilities. A green roof on the building also helped increase the green foot print on the site.

ART GALLERY

Masterplan and building design Site Location: Pound Lane Canterbruy,Kent To help preserve Canterbury’s history of art, I designed an art gallery with different sized exhibitions and conditions that showed the true beauty of different pieces of art created from different artists who were famous in Kent.

A bridge was also involved in the building design to provide an easier route of access for people onto the site and into the building. A small park area was included in the building plan to help promote the existing views of the site as well as create a link between the natural materiality of the building and its surrounding environment.

Modelmaking Design Development

Using a masterplan model to explain the staggered layout, allowing each hut to have its own view and bridge to act as a main landscape feature going straight out to the beach

A masterplan of 16 beach huts was designed for this project as well as a main cafe area which is located on the North side of the masterplan. The aim with the layout and the glass facade facing south towards the sea was to take full advantage of the beautiful seaside view south of the site. The layout also allowed each hut to have a clear view towards the sea from different heights and in between one another.

Final Shleter Product

Our Folio module allowed us to do weekly tasks of skecthes which in turn helped improve our drawing techniques of real life scenarios, objects and people. Many sketches were done when researching precedents to get a better understanding of a building’s form or the circulation in a masterplan. Models and sculptures were also created to help create a more diverse expression in the forms and shapes which we are surrounded by in our daily lives.
