Hello and welcome players, officials and supporters to A.J. Kelly Park. Today we welcome Brisbane City for matches in the National Premier Leagues Qld.
A great win last Saturday see’s us playing NPL finals football this year. We still have three fixtures remaining however a huge congratulations to the playing squad and coaching staff for this achievement.
I am sure the team want to keep the momentum going as the positions in the top four could change depending on results in the next three weeks. No matter who we play in the knock out finals the team will be aiming to make the Grand Final at Suncorp Stadium for our members and community.
Our Women are keeping up the fight to stay in Queensland top flight football competition by another win over QAS last weekend at home. They have a tough assignment against Brisbane City this weekend but I am sure they will give it the best efforts away from home.
Our Club Great Day Out last Sunday was a fantastic day with members, sponsors and supporters. We had a great lunch at A.J. Kelly Park Function Room with Qld State of Origin player and Dolphins Tom Gilbert and local boxer Liam Wilson as the special guests. MC Terry Kirkham was in great form asking the questions and entertaining the crowd with his auctions.
Today at halftime (4.45pm) we will be drawing our Major Raffle. Some fantastic prizes with $5000 cash and two holidays just to name a few. A massive thank you to all our members for their support in selling these tickets which goes to building Stage 1 new changerooms facility at Bradley Park. The planning, design and approvals are nearly completed with construction to begin at the end of this season.
This week we host the Bill Turner Cup Queensland Titles for Boys and Girls Under 15 years. These games are on Tuesday and Wednesday with the winning teams going to Sydney to represent our State. The games are 10.30am, 12pm, 1.30pm and 3pm each day.
Don’t forget to lock in the dates of our Senior Presentation Awards and Dinner which will be on Saturday 12th October. Put it in your diaries as we celebrate our team and individual awards and also party the night away.
As always please enjoy the facilities here at A.J. Kelly Park, sit back have a cold drink, some great food and enjoy the football.

Good afternoon and welcome Peter and Brisbane City to AJ Kelly for today’s game.
Congratulations to Peter on the appointment as Brisbane City new Head Coach.
Last weekend was a tough game against a good Olympic team. We came away 3-1 winners. Goal scorers Jheisen Macause, Niyah Joseph and an own goal.
I was really happy with the effort and commitment shown by the team. As with all teams at this time of year niggles, injuries and suspensions play a part. The players that come in did a great job for the team. With 3 games to go, managing players and getting players back to fitness is important leading into finals.
The win on the weekend secured finals football for 2024 season. Well done to the playing group on this achievement BUT the job is not done yet.
We had a great Sunday afternoon at the Power Day Out Dolphins V Titans game. Thank you to the organisers on a great day.
I’m really honoured to have coached Peninsula Power to 200 league games. I’d like to thank everyone that has been on my journey - players, supporters and staff members. You have all made my journey and I appreciate the friendships I have formed. Thank you to Craig and John for the support shown over the many years.
To my wife and kids thank you for all your support. I love you very much. Thank you to all the sponsors and supporters for your continued support. We are Power!
• Gold Coast Knights vs Moreton City Excelsior
Gold Coast Knights could have looked to this game as a real test of their abilities but the title race is over and they could lose this regardless. But of course they’ll give it their best and probably come out the other side with three points.
Moreton City Excelsior must go into this game assuming that GCK will lose the remainder of their matches and cough up the title. It’s what teams do when motivating themselves but it won’t make the slightest difference in the long (short?) run.
Shame this game doesn’t have more meaning to it but still it should be a pretty good standalone event. Prediction: GCK 2-1
• Rochedale Rovers vs Sunshine Coast Wanderers
Rochedale Rovers have run out of time. They are a big club with a big grandstand but that matters little when they have underperformed all season. It’s mathematically possible to stay up but it would need some luck and a serious change in form.
Sunshine Coast Wanderers can look forward to another season of NPL and deservedly so. They were never going to win the league or make the finals but they defied my prediction of certain relegation and will stay up. This could be their last win of the year though.
I’ve totally lost faith in Rovers. Who knows where they will go next year. Probably will come back up again but their recruiting has been awful. Prediction: SCW 2-1
• Peninsula Power vs Brisbane City
Peninsula Power are in unstoppable form again. It’s great for the league and means they’ll make the top four. The league always seems to be better when they are playing well. Can’t see too many issues with winning at home again.
Brisbane City get close to their opponents regularly but getting the points is another matter all together. They will also be back for another year of NPL but one can only wonder how they can improve all round.
Power are playing some great football so City will be right up against it. If the home team get in front, there’s no coming back. Prediction: Peninsula 3-1
Wynnum Wolves haven’t recaptured their early season form but they don’t need to. A fifth placed finish would be excellent and it’s totally achievable, especially if they get a win in this game. Their defence could do with some tightening.
Redlands United will be joining Rochedale in the QPL. Yes, it’s true and it’ll be even truer if they don’t win this derby game because it will actually BE true. We’ve had some horrible teams in BPL/NPL over the years so credit to them for at least being competitive.
Neither team has me convinced to be fair so the result could go either way and give Redlands a little bit of hope. Prediction: 1-1 draw
• Olympic FC vs Brisbane Roar Youth
Olympic FC did not have enough to beat Peninsula but they certainly have enough for Chris Grossmann to take points from his former team. Daniel Leck must be due to return at some time which will be massive.
Brisbane Roar Youth surrendered the win to Gold Coast Knights last week despite playing against ten men for a long period but it’s the loss of Ivan Ozzi to a red card which has the biggest bearing on this week’s game.
A-League is back in training so it’s possible BRY might have some extra players. I can see this being tight (so it’ll probably end up being 5-5) Prediction: 1-1 draw
• Lions FC vs Gold Coast United
Lions FC aren’t going to finish in the top two, most likely, which is unexpected, but the race for silverware continues. There’s not much more they need to build one of those especially good sides they usually put out.
Gold Coast United sit in the middle of the table. It’s where they always sit at this time of the year and it’s where they are likely going to sit for the rest of time until the universe collapses in upon itself and everyone is dead.
Lions are the better team here of course and no one likes playing at Richlands. Therefore I am going to tip them to win. Prediction: Lions 2-0
Peninsula Power would like to thank our sponsors, members and supporters who attended our Great Day Out last Sunday to support the Dolphins at Suncorp Stadium.
We really appreciated our special guests of the day which were NRL Dolphins and State of Origin player Tom Gilbert and local boxer Liam Wilson.
Also our MC for the event Terry Kirkham who expertly interviewed our guests and conducted the fundraising auction.
Support your team and grab a limited edition 25th Anniversary Peninsula Power stubbie cooler for only $10. Add a can of Power 25th Anniversary Beer for just $5 with every cooler sold.

U16s Academy head into our second fixture after a long break due to school holidays and National Youth Championships, which we had Joe Compton and Jack Flannagan represent Qld and both having a fantastic tournament. We also have Raheel Narsey still on international duties for Fiji in the U16 OFC tournament and is due to return mid-August.
As we head into the final third of the season with confidence from results due to the boys high individual player development which has been contributing to their performance. This period is extremely important as we prepare the player transition into U18s football for 2025. We have a busy month ahead with 6 games sanctioned in 3 weeks with a couple of those at AJK Park mid-week so get down and support the boys I know they would really appreciate it.
Also, the team would like to thank Slayde Stokes a Mens/U23s player who has been mentoring this squad for 10 weeks and helping technically with their development as he heads back to the US College Football system.
