A.S. WILSON Get to know this romance writer's latest novel capturing our literary hearts When did you write it? Did you know how it would unfold as you were writing it? What inspired you to write this story? I started writing Love from Beyond in October 2020. I had a general idea of the characters and plot when I started writing the novella, but I never anticipate all of the twists and turns that will come about as a story develops. That’s the fun of it! What inspired you to write this story? Was it based on something that happened to you personally? Regarding the inspiration for the story, I have unfortunately experienced the loss of a close friend. I am also familiar with the other tragedy of this story, which is loving someone without ever expressing to him how you feel. I was interested in exploring how something beautiful could come out of something so tragic text. What was the most memorable part of writing this book? The most memorable part of writing this book was writing the sunrise scene. My emotions rose and fell with Anika’s as I was writing that scene, and I still get teary-eyed when I go back and reread her confession of love and her litany of regrets. Why do you like to write in this genre? I would say that my favorite genre to write in is a contemporary romance. I enjoy writing contemporary romance because I feel that portrayals of a black love that is healing and fulfilling for both individuals involved are vital for our community. It’s fantasy and escapism, but contemporary romance books can also convey ideas and themes that shape the way we view ourselves and each other and what we believe we can attain. Could you tell us how you came up with the cover for your book? I picked this cover for Love from Beyond because the model’s body type, skin tone, and style of dress matched my descriptions of Anika perfectly. Anika has an understated style, punctuated by funky splashes of color and playful accessories. Anika displays his personality in her style, and the model on the cover represents the character’s vibe and approach to life. Describe your title to the readers? The title is a nod to Drake’s role in

sparking Anika and Kadeem’s romance. Drake has already passed away, at the start of the novella; but he sends his love through the letter that he leaves for his friends and the arrangements he makes for them to spend the weekend alone in the cabin. They believe that they are coming together for Drake, but he has brought them together so that they can find love.

1

Anika’s heart aches over the death of her friend, Drake. Although the loss was tragic, she mustered the courage to follow through with Drake’s final wishes. But little did she know, she wouldn’t be alone on her trip to the Blue Ridge Mountains. Her heart had been given yet another challenge.

In mourning, Kadeem ventures upon a trek to the Blue Ridge Mountains in an effort to fulfill his friend’s last requests. However, the cabin meant for his solace has an unexpected guest. Unbeknownst to him, arrangements had been made for him to spend the weekend in the cabin—with Anika.

Neither Anika nor Kadeem expected the overwhelming attraction; and neither of them can avoid what's brewing between them. Can a secret Anika’s been keeping for ten years put an end to the whole affair or will the love between Anika and Kadeem offer a foundation for healing?

This is the second novel I've read by Syfari, and I continue to be impressed with her writing. The story was so juicy that I had to finish it once I started reading it. Her words bring the story to life and she captivates me with the characters and the plot.

This was my first read by this particular author and I will be returning for much more. I loved how effortless the novel flowed. I loved the curveballs she threw into the plot. I was not bored. It was a good read.

Lord, what a mess this is!!! (Good way) Dramatic Enjoyed your reading. The writer told this story with such finesse that it kept me entertained each chapter.

Wow! This book was just amazingly written. It was soulful. The connection between Dominic and Claudette was out of this world, which isn't an easy feat for a writer to accomplish. The story was amazingly intense and emotional and I loved that it is not rushed. The cover was mind-blowing and I truly loved how she was able to choose a cover that was such a good fit for Dominic's character. This is a classic!!!!!

The novel was hot! The cover was fire, the story was realistic, and it all connected well. I loved the detailed way the Author portrayed each and every scene. This was an enticing read. A genuine street novel! You have to read this novel since you have gritty, street-level, gang drama. I actually felt chills reading this particular novel and that was a plus for me. I cannot wait to read part two! The author is absolutely keeping it 100% in this book!!! MUST-READ: Triggadale: Shots Fired by Elijah R. Freeman.

4 Tips

The Importance of Book Covers – The Reason is Simple.

A good book cover can be an effective sales tool, serving to communicate the important ideas, messages, and images that sum up the book. On those crowded novels shelves, it is vital for you to stick out from the other publications. Innovating book covers is something that can help readers take you and the book you wrote seriously. The online bookseller Amazon does not differentiate between conventional and self-published volumes, which is why indie writers are frequently competing against large New York publishers. If the novel has any chance to be a success, its innovations have to be strong enough or different enough to set it apart or even surpass what the great publishers are putting out. In order to get more customers and sales, you need to stand out from the crowd. How should you do that? Here are some tips:

AUTHOR SPOTLIGHT Elijah R. Freeman

Author BIO

Elijah R. Freeman is from Riverdale, Georgia and is quickly becoming known as "The Future of Urban Fiction." Having experienced the trenches on both the streets and behind the wall, he gives you specifics, a far cry from the general tales of hoodlife the urban genre has become accustomed to. In 2011 he was inspired to write Urban Fiction after reading "Trust No Man" by LockDown Publications C.E.O CA$H. After many rejected manuscripts, he signed with TMA and in 2017 he released his debut novel, "To Live With No One To Love." Encouraged by his writing mentor Thomas Habersham ฀Author of "Circle of Death"฀, he took up a correspondence course with Stratford Career Institute and after obtaining his Creative Writing Diploma, he signed his first traditional contract alongside the Urban can’thim go wrong face who hadyou inspired as a juvenile. He with these all-time hopes to deliver a positive classic items. message to his generation in a way that they'll receive, and to prove without contradiction that Urban Fiction is alive and well. Writing was never my dream. I just found myself at a point in my life where it was all I had," he says. "The sky was the limit, and I reached for it." Elijah R. Freeman is building his company brand, and working hard on his upcoming novel, "The Hottest Summer Ever."

Tell me about your work ethic฀ I don฀t quit. I cover all bases despite the fact I have a solid team. I฀m the author that writes, comes up with his own cover concepts, and marketing strategies. I give input on business and personal web design, and I manage my own social media pages. My greatest gift outside of writing is my ability to network. I like to come up with ways to integrate other people talents and progressions with my own. Thereby exposing our work to each others following. Its how I฀ve come up with some of my most innovative marketing strategies. Who are your top three favorite authors ฀ why฀ My top 3 favorite authors are Eric Jerome Dickey, Thomas Habersham, and Racquel Williams. EJD, may Allah be pleased with him, has written some of my favorite novels and influenced a lot of my early writing. Thomas Habersham, author of ฀Circle Of Death,฀ has had the most influence on me as a writer period. He฀s my mentor, actually. Raquel Williams, I admire her drive. I followed her whole wave in my early years of writing. She started off with Black Destiny Publishing, a small self-publishing company. From there, she signed with Leo Sullivan than Urban Books, but she was always moving up. The first series I read of hers was ฀Bottom Bitch.฀ It was dope. Now she owns her own company. She literally came in the game and took urban fiction by storm. I salute her, and would love to work with her one day. What is your latest novel ฀ why should it be read฀ My latest release is ฀Tales 4rm Da Dale.฀ It฀s a Short Story Collection of Cautionary Street Tales with enlightening morals. They put to questions the virtues that result in progressive states of self-destruction. Yet, its an entertaining read as well. Gritty, original, informative, and best of all, hood as fuck!!! Why did you become a Author฀ Personally, I became an author to give the streets a voice and to free the characters held captive in my mind. At a young age, I found myself in a cell telling the same stories time and tike again. At some point I realized that I had to free the characters in order for me to move on and grow so I did. My mind was this massive world where all these characters lived. Now they roam the pages of my novels doing as they please. And its still just one big world. Don฀t be surprised if you come across characters from one book in another novel. They cant help it. If you had to describe yourself in three words, what would they be฀ Ambition. Genuine. Versatile. What comes first, the plot or characters฀ Definitely the characters. They are the plot. I just write about them.

There's a saying in Riverdale: sometimes you have to do the wrong thing to make stuff right. Tales 4rm Da Dale is a peek at the lives of street-smart men and women who take this to heart and experience horrid lessons of a lifetime. In Money Blessings, Rico grinds day-in day-out in the trap. Cursed by the streets, he is face to face with the fact no strategy takes him forward in the game, and that for every gain there's an even greater loss. Fed up, Rico falls weak to the enigmatic pull of a root doctor and the lure of a simple way out. Suddenly, he is blessed by the game. Money comes, but all money ain't good money... Ma Dukez is the tale of a young teen kicked out on the street. With no place to go, J-Rock teams up with his partna, Black, and an old head named G. Together they orchestrate several licks while JRock struggles to accept the severed relationship with his mother. A day of mishaps and a botched move later, J-Rock is left for dead, so-called friends are nowhere to be found, and a mother's love is tested. Rell has just been convicted of murder and is scheduled for sentencing the next day. While on lockdown, his bunk mate Juvi- a young, rambunctious teen from Atlanta- becomes restless and nerve-racking to the point of a headache. Rell is seconds away from exploding, but when Juvi asks him to tell him a story to pass the time he feels that maybe his story could be the wake-up call Juvi needs to Chill Out.

Syfari Rhoades Syfari is an excellent author that I found out about last year when her first written novel, Entanglement, was released. This work of hers was liquid gold. For someone so early to be published. She’s done an amazing job of making it known that she’s creative with her work. Her gripping stories kept me hooked she kept me on the edge of my seat. She blew me away yet again with her second novel released in December, a holiday romance novel. Highly recommend you check her out, she's new in the literary world and her stories are so phenomenal.

AUTHOR BIO

I fell in love with writing when I was 8-years-old. I entered and won a youth author’s contest and was hooked. My middle school teacher and high school teacher told me I had the gift of writing . I took it to hear and majored in English literature in college and earned my Bachelor's degree, as a first generation student. I have since earned graduate degrees in other areas. I'm always writing. I was so excited to release my debut novel – Entangled, Caught Up in His Web, in 2020, followed by my latest book, When Bae Came Home, A Holiday Story, released right before Christmas 2020. They are both very engaging stories and full of drama! Each is the debut book of a series. I live in Minneapolis, MN with my husband and I am the proud mother of two beautiful people. I have been Blessed with a great family. When I'm not writing I love to be outdoors, doing anything from bike riding to running. Because Minnesota winters are so long I really appreciate the Spring and Summer and I take advantage of the good weather as much as possible. I also love cooking fun new dishes and baking, with my latest toys - instant pot and air fryer! I cooked a calzone in the air fryer-I was blown away! What I cherish most is time with my family and friends, and I can't wait until we can all re-connect and gather in the manner we did, pre-pandemic.

Interview Why did you become a Author? I became an author because I need to write! I have to write. I wanted to share my stories with the world. The pandemic forced me to slow down and allowed me the ability to finish writing a novel I started a decade ago, "EntangledCaught Up In His Web." I have enjoyed the journey of sharing and getting readers reactions and support, and I will keep writing books as long as I have readers who want more! What comes first, the plot or characters? Definitely the plot. I visualize the characters right away but it's the plot first, and the characters grow with the plot. I don't like to pre-determine who the characters are. They present themselves as I write and that is what makes it authentic. I'm surprised by some of the characters, myself! Characters are so much fun and character development is very important to me. The characters must be the right fit for the plot or the story will fall flat. I want my readers discussing characters as if they're real people and to identify similar characteristics to people they know. I want the book club discussions to be on fire! Tell me about your work ethic? I like to believe that I have a strong work ethic. It's important to be committed to your craft. As an author that doesn't necessarily mean putting out books as fast as you possibly can, but publishing your books when it's the highest level of quality that you can produce. I prioritize quality over quantity. I want my readers' experience to be worthwhile and enjoyable. I also understand the eagerness of wanting to read the next book in the series, so I commit to small writing goals so that I can publish books within a reasonable time period. Who are your top three favorite authors & why? Zora Neal Hurston - Have you ever experienced such beautiful words? I read her books over and over. Jackie Collins - She brought the drama! Maya Angelou - The Queen makes you look inside and examine yourself in a way no else can. All the different forms of writing she gave to us. Don't even get me started on the poetry. What is your latest novel & why should it be read? When Bae Came Home - A Holiday Story Read this book if love holiday stories, love stories, drama, friendship stories or if you have ever wished for someone to come home, especially those with incarcerated loved ones. Mainstream media and publishing tends to overlook people with loved ones in prison but it's very real for many families. It was important to me to write a story reflecting this reality, especially for so many families of color, given our flawed justice system.
