Hi, Jason here and welcome to Juiced!, my brand new quarterly magazine devoted to all things juicy. SUPER JUICE! The month of November is widely recognised as ‘Movember’ in the UK, as thousands of people don a ’tash to raise money for the fight against prostate cancer. So here at Juiced! we thought we’d go balls out and ask Jason for an exclusive Movember juice – and here it is! Pineapple 1/2 Beetroot 1 Pear 1 Pomegranate 1 Ice small handful
Juice the pineapple, beetroot and pear. Pour the freshly extracted juice into the blender along with the pomegranate seeds and ice. Pop the lid on and then blitz for 20-30 seconds or until smooth.
TOP POM JUICE TIP HOW TO REMOVE POMEGRANATE SEEDS
1. Roll the fruit on an even surface using the flat of your hand to loosen the seeds inside. 2. Score around the middle of the pomegranate and then tear it open into two halves. 3. Hold each half over a bowl (seed side facing down) and then tap the skin side with a wooden spoon (or something similar) to release the seeds.
There have been many positive studies on pomegranate juice and prostate cancer, so it’s no surprise this wonderful fruit features in this special Movember recipe. In order to make it even more potent, I’ve added the nitrate and iron rich juice of raw beetroot and soluble fibre rich pear juice. I’ve also added freshly extracted pineapple juice. This drink provides a wonderful enzyme called bromelain, which helps to break down excess proteins and also gives it a rich creamy head – in one mouthful you’ll have an instant ’tash! If your fella really fancies joining in, keep the razor in the cupboard and raise some cash for a worthy cause.

It’s time to grab your apron and get cooking!
‘No Dough’ Hallou mi and Basil Pizza I’ve taken the Italian classic and removed all traces of… dough! (Much to the horror of most Italians, I’m guessing!). My replacement dough is not just a substitute, it’s an incredible alternative. If you think it’s impossible to make pizza without dough you are going to be pleasantly surprised. In fact I will go as far as to say once you make it, you’ll be so impressed it will be one of those recipes you’ll want to make for your friends time and time again. Serves two, two mini pizzas each Base Parsnips 2 Oats* 120g/4oz Cashew nuts 100g or 2 handfuls Himalayan rock salt 1 pinch Black pepper 1 pinch Sauce: Garlic 2 cloves Cherry tomatoes 24 Fresh basil 40g or 2 large handfuls Sun-dried tomatoes 160g/6oz Balsamic vinegar 2 tbsps Himalayan rock salt 1 pinch Black pepper 1 generous pinch Topping: Halloumi 250g/9oz Pine nuts 20g/1oz

A real winter warmer, this recipe has ‘medicinal’ properties, perfect for cold and flu season
ON YOUR MARKS, GET SET... • Preheat the oven to 200˚C (400˚F/gas mark 6). • Line a large baking tray with greaseproof paper. • Remove the ends of one parsnip and grate. Peel the garlic. Take eight of the cherry tomatoes and cut in half. Trim the leaves from the basil and discard the stems. Slice the halloumi into small slices. IT’S ALL ABOUT THE BASE Place the oats, nuts, salt and pepper into the container of a Super Blend hand blender or bullet type blender and whizz for ten seconds to form a ‘flour’. Place the ‘flour’ into a mixing bowl along with the grated parsnip. Mix with your (clean) hands until the mixture turns into a dough. Divide the dough into four and flatten each one with your hands, then roll each one into a round shape using a rolling pin. Slide onto the baking tray with a broad knife. Place the baking tray in the oven and cook for 15 minutes. Meanwhile... MAKE THE SAUCE Place the garlic, whole cherry tomatoes, sun-dried tomatoes, vinegar, salt and pepper and half the basil into the hand blender container, Super Blend or Bullet Blender and blend for ten seconds.
CREATE Spoon the sauce onto the cooked bases and spread evenly, leaving a small gap around the edge. Randomly decorate with the halloumi, cut cherry tomatoes and pine nuts. COOK Pop back in the oven for 10 minutes. SERVE Remove from the oven and scatter with the remaining fresh basil. *Some oats are cross-contaminated with gluten in production, so if you’re very sensitive make sure you buy certified gluten-free oats.
Creamy Chilli and Tomato Soup If your idea of soup is something you’d get in a can, you’re in for a treat with this bad boy. Not only does it live up nutritionally to the ‘superfood’ mantle, but it’s one of the nicest soups I’ve had. If you like soup with a little kick, yet creamy to taste, you’ve found ‘The One’. This soup is rich in protein, vitamins and minerals. Garlic and chilli add the ‘health doctor’ element as garlic is a natural antibiotic, anti-inflammatory and anti-fungal, while chillis are a source of vitamin C, with 100g providing 240 per cent of our RDA.

Serves two Red onion 1 Red pepper 1 Red chillis 2 Garlic 2 cloves Tomatoes 4 Chilli beans* 240g or 1 can Coconut or olive oil 1 tbsp Himalayan rock salt 1 pinch Ground black pepper 1 pinch Boiling water 200ml/7 fl oz Coconut milk 200ml/7 fl oz ON YOUR MARKS, GET SET... Peel and finely chop the onions. Cut the red pepper in half, remove the seeds and chop into small pieces. Remove the ends from the chillis, chop
in half lengthways, remove the seeds and chop into small pieces. Peel the garlic and thinly slice. Chop the tomato into smallish cubes. Drain and rinse the chilli beans. COOK Put the coconut or olive oil in a large saucepan and warm over a moderate heat. Add the onion and red pepper and allow to soften for five minutes, stirring occasionally. Next add the chillis, garlic, tomatoes, chilli beans, salt and pepper. Reduce the heat and simmer for a further five minutes, then add the boiling water and coconut milk, allow to simmer for two minutes then remove from the heat.

I want the pages stuck together with bits of food splattered over it when you make the recipes, and to reignite your cooking fire. I’ll show you how frighteningly easy it can be to eat well.”
BLEND Blend the soup for 1-2 minutes using a stick blender or a regular blender. Be extra careful if opting for the latter as the build up of steam creates pressure that can force off the lid. Place a tea towel over the lid and hold firmly while blending to avoid this. *If you prefer to use dry beans, then these will need soaking and cooking first. It’s fine to use pre-cooked beans from a can, just try to buy organic if possible.
Jasey’s Bad Boy Fish Finger Sandwich There are fish finger sandwiches and then there’s this bad boy. Fish finger sandwiches remind me of my childhood, as they were a regular feature in the Vale household at least once a week. Back then of course, it was shop-bought ‘fish’ fingers, slapped between two bits of white bread and loaded with butter and shop-bought tartar sauce. These days the focus is still on taste, but also on making sure it gets a good nod in the health direction too. Beautiful fresh fish, dipped in a spelt flour, breadcrumb and chive coating and served between two slices of wholesome bread which have been generously smothered in a creamy, fresh, homemade avocado tartar. Enjoy! Ingredients for the Tangy Avo Tartar Serves two White onion ½ Ripe avocado ½ medium Lemon ½ (the juice of) Dijon mustard 2 heaped tsps Cider vinegar 1 tbsp Capers 1 heaped tbsp Ingredients for the Fish Fingers Serves two Spelt rye flour 4 tbsps Rock salt 1 pinch Ground black pepper 1 pinch Organic free-range egg 1 large Chives 10g Breadcrumbs 80g Olive oil 1 tbsp Vietnamese River Cobbler fish (or any other white fish) 250g Good quality bread (sourdough is recommended) 4 slices ON YOUR MARKS, GET SET... Peel and dice the onion, remove the avocado flesh (discard the skin and stone). Cut the fish into four even ‘fish finger’ shaped pieces and put to one side. BLEND Place the onion, avocado, lemon juice, mustard, vinegar and capers in the small container of a hand blender or Retro Super Blend. Pulse for 10-20 seconds, so it is creamy but still has a rough texture. Then place in the fridge. PREPARE Place the spelt rye flour, salt and pepper into a mixing bowl. Whisk the egg and pour into a shallow bowl. Finely chop the chives and place in a separate shallow bowl along with the breadcrumbs.
CREATE Coat the fish in the flour, then in the egg wash and finally into the breadcrumbs, making sure the ends are coated. COOK Place the olive oil in the frying pan and then cook the fish over a medium to high heat for 4 minutes each side and finish by turning the heat up high for 20 seconds each side. ASSEMBLE Use the tartar as ‘butter’ and spread across each slice of bread, then create your fish finger sandwich!

Forget greasy takeaways, this Asian-inspired dish is seriously tasty
Supercharged Egg Fried Rice This takes classic egg fried rice to a whole new ‘Super Fast Food’ level! I love rice and it’s a shame that quinoa has almost made this eastern staple a little unfashionable. This light and flavoursome version is loaded with essential nutrients, is a great source of fibre and decent ‘wild’ rice is easily worthy of super food status on its own. Add some kale, mushrooms, spring onion and pumpkin seeds and you’ve just raised the nutritional content a notch or two. Serves two Kale 50g or 1 handful Mushrooms 4 Spring onions 4 sprigs Eggs 4 (medium – free-range and organic, obviously!) Mixed wild rice* 150g/5oz Boiling water 450ml/16fl oz Sesame oil 1 tbsp Soya sauce** 1 tbsp Pumpkin seeds 40g or 1 large handful Ground black pepper 2 pinches ON YOUR MARKS, GET SET... Chop the kale into small pieces, discarding any hard stems. Wash the mushrooms and slice. Remove the ends and outer layer from the spring onions and cut into slices about 1cm thick. Whisk the eggs. Rinse the rice, place in a pan and add the boiling water. BOIL Place the rice on the hob and bring to the boil, then cover with a lid, reduce the heat and allow to simmer for 20 25 minutes until all the water has been absorbed. Keep checking the rice and add a little more water if the liquid is all absorbed and the rice is still not cooked. Once it is,
remove from heat, drain any excess water, place back in the pan and cover with a lid. COOK Put the sesame oil in a wok or frying pan and heat over a medium to high heat. Add the kale, mushrooms and spring onions and cook for five minutes, stirring frequently. Add the eggs and allow to cook for one minute, stirring constantly so that the eggs envelop the ingredients and turn into scrambled eggs, not an omelette. Remove from heat. COMBINE Add the rice, soya sauce, pumpkin seeds and pepper to the frying pan and combine. SERVE Place in a bowl and eat on your lap while sat in your favourite armchair! *This will usually come in a bag with either basmati or wholegrain rice, it really doesn’t matter which you use. **If hypersensitive to gluten, use tamari or Braggs Liquid Aminos instead.
Goat’s cheese and basil dip I’m a little partial to goat’s cheese, so it won’t come as a surprise that there’s a dip that contains this beautiful, creamy and tangy cheese. All of these fresh ingredients contain a variety of vitamins and minerals, with calcium taking the limelight on this occasion. Serves two Fresh basil 50g or 1 large handful Goat’s cheese (soft type, preferably without skin) 125g/4.5oz Olive oil 1 tbsp Lemon juice 1 Black pepper 1 pinch Himalayan rock salt 1 pinch ON YOUR MARKS, GET SET... Remove any hard stems from the basil. Place all the ingredients in the container of a stick blender or Retro Super Blend and whizz for 20-30 seconds until all is combined. Scoop into a nice little bowl and enjoy with some crackers.
Sweet Chilli Potato Wedges It’s fair to say that wherever you see a salad, you are free to add a cheeky portion of these fiery babies. I love them, what can I say! They are so simple to make and are a healthier alternative to the standard white potato variety because sweet potatoes do not raise our blood sugar as quickly. They are also perfect on their own when you’re just chilling with a book or film – and great with a little homemade sweet chilli sauce or homemade pesto too! Serves 2 Sweet potatoes 2 Olive oil 1 tbsp Cayenne pepper 1 tsp ON YOUR MARKS, GET SET... Preheat the oven to 200˚C (400˚F/gas mark 6). Cut the sweet potatoes into wedges and place in a mixing bowl. Add the olive oil and cayenne pepper and mix well. Place the coated potatoes onto a baking tray. COOK Pop the baking tray in the oven and cook for 25 minutes.

Crazy Good Carrot Cake Carrot cake is one of my all time favourite sweets – this recipe is gluten free and contains no refined sugars or fats. Most gluten free and healthy carrot cake recipes use two or three (or even more!) different types of flour and other unusual ingredients, but this recipe is refreshingly simple and tastes oh-so good! Cake Carrots 2 Oranges 2 Eggs 4 (medium, free-range and organic) Ginger 4 cm x 4 cm Self-raising flour (gluten-free) 400g/14oz Baking powder 1 level tsp Sultanas 4 handfuls Cinnamon 1 heaped tsp Olive oil 200ml/7fl oz Honey 4 tbsp Topping Soft cheese 250g/9oz (ideally goat’s cheese) Orange juice (this will be leftover from the cake ingredients) Honey 2 tbsps Seeds small handful (pumpkin or sunflower – optional) ON YOUR MARKS, GET SET... Preheat the oven to 180˚C (350˚F/gas mark 4). Oil two medium, loose-bottomed cake tins and line with greaseproof paper. Remove the hard ends from the carrots and grate. Finely grate the orange skin, cut in half and manually squeeze the juice into a small bowl. Whisk the eggs. Peel and finely grate the ginger. CREATE Sift the flour and baking powder into a large bowl. Add the carrot, orange zest, grated ginger, sultanas, cinnamon and mix. In a separate bowl gently mix the eggs, oil, honey and half the orange juice. Gradually add to the dry ingredients and mix gently. Spoon into the cake tins. COOK Bake for 40 minutes. Remove from the cake tins by tipping upside down and patting the bottoms. Remove paper and leave to cool on a wire rack. TOPPING Place the cheese in a mixing bowl and add the remaining orange juice and honey. Mix until combined and then pop in the fridge to firm up. FINISH When the cake has completely cooled, spoon half the topping mixture onto the top of each cake and pop one cake on top of the other. Chop the seeds and sprinkle over the top.

Pecan Power Granola Bars If you’ve never made homemade granola bars, you are in for a real treat. What’s really cool about these is not only are they super quick to make, but you can make a large batch, store them in the freezer to keep them extra fresh and eat them directly from the freezer (they don’t actually freeze!). Dates are rich in several vitamins, minerals and fibre. They also contain healthy oils, calcium, iron, potassium, phosphorous, manganese, copper and magnesium. The pecans, almond butter and pumpkin seeds add essential fats and amino acids, plus B vitamins. Makes 8 - 10 Dates 8 (Medjool if possible) Pecans 1 handful Oats* 90g/3oz Cold mineral water 90ml/3fl oz Pumpkin seeds 1 handful Almond butter 4 tbsps Raisins 2 handfuls ON YOUR MARKS, GET SET... Preheat the oven to 180˚C (350˚F/gas mark 4). Remove the stones from the dates and any hard ends. Roughly chop the pecans. Mix the oats and water in a bowl until all the water has been absorbed, then transfer to a baking tray with the pecans and pumpkin seeds, and distribute evenly. Pop the tray in the oven for ten minutes, breaking up the oats part way through to ensure they dry out. MEANWHILE... Place the dates and almond butter in the container of a hand blender and blend for 20 seconds until it forms a dough. Transfer the dough, toasted pecans, pumpkin seeds, oats and raisins to a mixing bowl and lightly combine using your hands. Transfer to the baking tray and push down firmly with the back of a spoon or your (clean) hands. Place in the freezer for ten minutes, before cutting into ten lovely pieces. *Make sure these are gluten-free if you are sensitive as oats can be cross-contaminated in the packaging process.

She smashed Strictly, charmed us with Britain’s Got Talent, and she’s enjoying musical success once more – we caught up with Alesha Dixon after her recent stay at Juicy Oasis
he’s been the golden girl of Saturday night TV for seven years, showing her talents and guiding those of wannabe stars to become Britain’s next big thing. With her luminescent beauty, infectious laugh and diplomatic touch – the perfect foil to Britain’s Got Talent’s (BGT) blunt-edged male judges – Alesha has become a household name and a firm family favourite. Who better to be the cover star to launch Juiced!, not least as she enjoys downtime at Juicy Oasis. In fact she credits Juice Master Jason Vale with helping her to get the most from juicing.

“I love being at Juicy Oasis and the combination of glorious sunshine, fabulous juices and fun exercise, plus relaxation is unbeatable” “I try to juice every day,” she says as she takes a short break between recording BGT. “When I met Jason I was a juicer, but he taught me how to get the right blends. Before, I would experiment with juices and it was a hit or miss affair. I even juiced Brussels sprouts, but they made me feel sick – that said, the whites of my eyes had never been brighter,” she laughs. It’s this self-deprecating sense of humour which makes Alesha great fun to be around, and whether she’s walking the red carpet or climbing a mountain at Juicy Oasis she’s
open, honest and hugely approachable. That’s not to say Alesha’s not one determined lady, a woman who has forged her career through dedication and hard work. With this in mind, first things first, we want to know how – now a busy mum to daughter Azura, almost three – she maintains her stunning flawless skin, hair and nails. An ambassador for Swisse supplements which she takes every day, Alesha incorporates juicing as part of a healthy diet, along with plenty of exercise and sleep. “The key is organisation,” she says. “On a typical day I start with half a pink grapefruit with cinnamon and a bowl of porridge for breakfast, or toasted rye bread with mashed avocado or scrambled egg. I’ll make a juice for lunch,

I’m lucky as my mum lives next door and she’s a hardcore juicer, as is my little brother – they’re forever making juices.” Alesha says the challenge of committing to daily juicing is more than outweighed by the benefits to how she looks and feels. “Juicing makes me feel I’ve been good to myself, and when I’ve had a juice everything falls into place. There are physical benefits too and I juice all the time to help with energy. “I get up early with Azura and by the time I head to the studio my energy levels are flagging – the odds are against me and I can feel challenged but if I’ve had a juice that’s loaded up with pineapple, for example, it gives me an extra boost to get through the rest of the day. I think the most important things are what we put into our body and sleep – with those sorted, I’m invincible!” Like most of us, a well-earned break also helps to recharge Alesha’s batteries and prepare her for a busy schedule. A big fan of Juicy Oasis, she cherishes her time at the retreat, with Jason alongside to share his nutritional and exercise knowledge. “In the UK, the main problem is the weather,” laments Alesha, “and sometimes we’re not as inspired to juice, but if we push past that, it can make an enormous difference to our wellbeing. I love being at Juicy Oasis and the combination of glorious sunshine, fabulous juices and fun exercise, plus relaxation is unbeatable. “Jason is so vibrant, positive and inspiring. I don’t think he realises it but he is amazing and I love his energy, it’s infectious. He’s achieved so much but he’s always looking to take things to the next level and juice the world, which is admirable. “I love to exercise at Juicy Oasis, and I tried rebounding recently. On my first visit I was secretly pregnant, but this time I got stuck in and I loved doing the yoga. My favourite thing is the walks – beautiful scenery, gentle exercise and, chatting with other guests, you leave the world behind.
“I enjoy my work but you have to focus on what’s important, and being in the moment rather than thinking ahead to the next thing” “It’s one of my happy places and I feel so alive when I’m there. I think it’s breathing in all that fresh air – it almost hurts your lungs, but it’s so good for us.” As if proof of the regenerative powers of Juicy Oasis were needed, Alesha is powering through a host of exciting projects. In addition to BGT, she has returned to her musical roots and, having released her fourth album, Do It for Love, on her own label, this summer performed a number of gigs. She’s also collaborated with designer Nicola Atkinson to create a fashion line for the Little Black Dress label, with £1 for every dress sold going to women’s charity Refuge. “I’m still hugely ambitious and I would love to try acting at some stage too – I have even started taking acting classes,” she says. “I want to continue to challenge myself and I’d love to do more documentaries too, as I have some ideas about animal protection to explore.” With so many plates to spin, Alesha says she is also working on mindfulness and achieving a good work-life balance. “This year’s been hectic, and I am trying to be kinder to myself,” she says. “I enjoy my work but you have to focus on what’s important, and being in the moment rather than thinking ahead to the next thing. “The future always takes care of itself and worry is a wasted energy – the only thing we have is now and I try to make that the cornerstone of everything I do. If you’ve got a good grip on life, and can zoom out to look at the bigger picture regularly, it helps keep it all in perspective. “When I go to Juicy Oasis it rejuvenates and realigns me. It’s like putting a car in for a service. I come away thinking about my body, what I put into it and achieving balance. I like to look after my body so it will look after me in the future.” Just like the talents that she spots and supports on BGT, the future looks set to continue to shine as brightly as it always has for Alesha.

Wearing Nikes,’ Kute Blackson wants us all to reconnect with our real self When Oprah’s people have ‘been on’, and Larry King tells you he’s read your book from cover to cover before he’s interviewed you, it’s pretty evident that you’re a hot property. Kute Blackson is indeed an extraordinary young man, creating a wave in the personal development world with his new title, You. Are. The. One. Then again, there’s little in the way of ordinary about Kute. Born in Africa, the son of a Japanese Buddhist mother and Ghanaian spiritual leader father, his first memory is seeing his father heal a crippled woman. Known as the ‘Miracle Man of Africa’, Kute’s father moved his family to London where he called upon his son, aged just eight, to address his congregation. The family’s bookshelves were filled with personal development gurus, and by 18 Kute had read 800 titles from the likes of Jack Canfield, Barbara De Angelis, John Gray and Tony Robbins, as he travelled from Dulwich to Peckham, between home and school. Although life pointed towards Kute following in his father’s footsteps, at 18 he knew that he had to forge his own spiritual path and, after he was fortunate enough to win a Green Card, left for America with just two suitcases to his name. He worked hard to establish himself, meeting Canfield – who is now a good friend – in New York, and creating a ‘meeting’ with director Steven Spielberg at a kids’ soccer match, who introduced him to his studios. Yet when an opportunity to work with a start-up management agency, who wanted to project him as a personal development 'star' came up, Kute turned it down,
feeling that his soul was telling him it wasn’t the right thing to do. Gifted money by a friend, he travelled to India, a place which Kute says stripped away his many layers of accumulated knowledge and allowed him to become authentic to himself. Returning to the US, he developed his coaching business and, working with a client with serious addiction issues – on one occasion spending £250,000 in a weekend on drugs – Kute transformed their life in 30 days. Word spread about the radical results of his work. He created the ‘Liberation Experience’, where he worked intensively with clients, many billionaires and athletes, taking them to remote destinations in India and Bali – where Blackson had found his own purpose – and challenging them to face their deepest fears to emerge reborn. It’s a technique Kute says we can all adopt to unburden ourselves of the things that are holding us back from achieving our life goals. “Anything can happen, anywhere,” says Kute. “Consciousness is everything. The reason I unplug people from their environment is because daily influences reinforce your sense of you. It can be hard to shift who you’ve been conditioned to become, to access more of your authentic self in daily life. Yet, when you question who you are, you strip away the layers and have the power to transform yourself.” Life has been fortuitous for Kute, but does he believe fate shaped his path? “I like the word destiny a lot more,” he says. “I think the Green Card was what I was intuiting at that time, my desire to go to America filtered

through, the same when I was frustrated and needed to experience India. I think when you relax and let go, a deeper impulse takes over – we need to trust and ride the wave. It’s how we interact with the movement that determines our destiny. Life is about finding those natural waves.” Now Kute has captured his experiences and message in a book. Having raced to #1 in Amazon’s Hot New Releases chart, Kute’s been heralded by many of his childhood personal development heroes. “When people read it, something special happens,” he says. “The
emails I’ve received have brought me to tears. I never get tired of telling people how much I enjoy rebounding and how much I get from it. It’s one of the best body strengtheners – and that’s according to NASA! ou may occasionally hear reference to this in your regular yoga class even though relaxation may seem to have no bearing whatsoever on your dynamic yoga session. In fact the beginning, the essence and the end of all that’s yoga is embodied in the transcendent state of relaxation. Yet what is it to relax but not to resist that which is, for already it is and in that space, ‘I Am’. Resistance is futile. In terms of applying this to your yoga practice or any individual posture simply and with integrity, move and release into as natural and open a position as the body is ready to assume. Rest there, breathe and relax even more deeply. It is existing within that space, where you make no effort whatsoever, that is a gateway to realising the fullness of yoga. This is none other than recognising the miracle of that which you are. If you cannot relax, then simply relax with the fact that you cannot relax. Relaxation will then be present. In this joyous state of relaxation, the reality that, ‘Possible is Everything’ can be discovered. There have been only few masters of this reality yet none are so adept as your own Self at rest. Rest there and relax, relax, relax.
