OUR STORY Our Mission To support and serve the community and lead individuals to a saving faith in Jesus Christ Our Vision A Christian Outreach Ministry working to transform lives in our community We Strive We present the Gospel to those who are homeless, indigent, or in critical need; to lead them to a saving faith in Jesus Christ; to instill hope and motivation for improving their lives; and to assist them in obtaining the resources necessary to become productive citizens and achieve lasting life recovery.
The Source began in 1995 originally serving the needy by offering free meals and Bible Study from a tiny 600 sq. ft. plaza storefront. The Source has since grown into a comprehensive assistance center, opening a 5,000 sq. ft. outreach facility open seven days a week, addressing the complex needs of the poor and homeless in Indian River County. Their purpose is to offer life-changing possibilities to residents in crisis; offering emergency hunger relief, clothing, counseling, support groups, hygiene items, showers, mail and telephone services, benefit referrals, cold weather refuge, and much more. With no current signs of economic progress, mothers, sisters, brothers, and in some cases, our very own friends, are becoming homeless or are on the brink of living in the streets. These are real people. They are families struggling to pay bills, single parents living paycheck to paycheck, or individuals who have lost their homes, hope, and their peace of mind. Some are sleeping in their cars. Some are living in tents. As first responders, The Source helps provide critical care for physical, spiritual, civic, and social needs. Think of us as the emergency room for those in crisis…they come to us worn and weary, as though their life is literally on the line. We assess the damages, dress the wounds and prep the “patient” for further treatment. We welcome them into a community and help them get on their own two feet.
OUR DIGNITY PROGRAMS DINING WITH DIGNITY
The Dining with Dignity Training Program (6, 12 or 18 weeks) offers culinary training as a way to help unemployed men and women replace limited skills, homelessness, addiction and incarcerations with new careers in the food service industry and overall changing lives.
DIGNITY CATERING
Dignity Catering offers Dining with Dignity students the opportunity to give back to the local community and help them in their efforts to gain outside employment by cooking and delivering well-balanced meals and beverages daily to IRC businesses and non-profit organizations. A full catering menu is on www.iamthethesource.org for private functions or event planning.
DIGNITY FOOD TRUCK
Dignity Food Truck is a social enterprise that is geared to selling award-winning foods throughout the community. It operates daily with chefs from the Dining with Dignity program providing hands-on training with made-to order meals for real customers. This program was enabled by a 2020 Impact 100 Grant, and travels to varied locations within the community. Download “I Am The Source” from an easy-to-use Google App to view a menu, order, pay online, and pick up at the Food Truck.

In addition to the Programs and Services offered by The Source, our training program is based on three beliefs:
1. 2. 3.
To use food as a tool to strengthen bodies physically and spiritually, empower minds, and build communities To realize that people have an incredible capacity to transform their lives when they have the right tools and support To provide real solutions and value to the community for longterm sustainability
MENTAL HEALTH COUNSELING After analyzing the client base of The Source, their individual traumas, needs and goals, we partnered with Charlene Morris, a Licensed Mental Health Counselor and owner of Abundant Life Centers, to provide services. And a plan was developed for the poor and homeless and anyone in the community that is suffering from significant issues with nowhere to turn. • Business Coaching for The Source employees with oneon-one meetings held over months, teaching them how to recognize client issues while accessing client feelings through conversation, compassion and care.
Charlene Morris meets new client
• Transitioning new clients into the Dining with Dignity Program; later progressing to the Dignity Catering program then the Dignity Food Truck; either as a 6, 12 or 18 week session. Following graduation of the program, they are assessed then receive recommendations pursuant to an employment placement. • Providing full-service sessions for all clients entering the building which begins with a personal needs assessment and interview. Once they are accepted as a client, they can utilize all the programs and services offered by the organization as well as expanded services and referrals to other resources as needed. The Source gives options, alternatives, new ways of thinking, and helping people out of homelessness rather than perpetuating it. It is about creating a space where people can make an income, feel honored and dignified within a community, working together, on every level that can eventually help them to return to their lives.
STUDENT TESTIMONIALS Antonio “Thanks to The Source, I replaced a homeless and rocky past with training in their Culinary Program, obtaining skills, becoming reunited with my long distance family and obtaining a job as a manager in a local food chain.” Krystal “While growing up in foster care, I always dreamed of bettering myself. While finally receiving an education, I later became homeless with a child until finding The Source. I trained in their Culinary Program enabling me to find full time work, a home and a car gifted from one of their benefactors.” Olguy “Being homeless from Haiti and speaking limited English made life difficult until I discovered The Source. I learned all the skills in cooking, baking and operating a kitchen and they helped me find a job at a local Vero Beach restaurant. I now feel at home.”
