WE THE PEOPLE: Tell us your life story.

MS PHASWANE: I grew up in Bushbuckridge, Mpumalanga, where I did my primary schooling. My family moved to the Limpopo province when I was in secondary school. I obtained my Law Degree at the University of the North, where I was an active member of a Braille club. We took what was in the text books and assisted to translate it to Braille. I did my articles of clerkship in Polokwane and attended school for legal practice in Polokwane.

WE THE PEOPLE: What has been your constant source of inspiration (e.g. book, anything you’ve read, a person, a film, piece of art, or quote, etc.)?

MS PHASWANE: My late father was a Magistrate. I would always ask him what he does at work as a young child. I always knew I would study law. At first I wanted to be a prosecutor, but after finishing my articles of clerkship, I worked at the Department of Justice as a Legal Administrator. When I saw an advertisement of a Registrar, looking at the duties, I knew that’s where I wanted to be.

WE THE PEOPLE: What kind of contribution do you want to make at the OCJ?

MS PHASWANE: I like the term public servant, it reminds me daily that I’m at the OCJ to serve the people who come to court with different challenges. I strive to restore faith in the public sector by bringing back CARING SERVICE to all the people who use the court, to provide service that is easily accessible to our clients.

WE THE PEOPLE: What are your academic qualifications?

MS PHASWANE: B.Proc from University of The North Diploma in Insolvency from the University of the Western Cape.
