Judge’s Hybrid Learning Model During the COVID-19 Pandemic
SCHOOL NEWS Judge’s Hybrid Learning Model During the COVID-19 Pandemic
In August, Judge Memorial welcomed students back to campus with a hybrid learning model offering both face-to-face learning through social distancing and online instruction. Our administration, faculty and staff continue to work hard to ensure our standards of excellence while mitigating risk of exposure and allowing our students to continue their education in a safe and responsible way.
Our current model separates students into two groups, the Red Group and the Gold Group. The Red Group attends classes in person on Mondays and Tuesdays while the Gold Group participates virtually on those days, via Zoom. On Thursdays and Fridays, the Gold Group attends in person classes and the Red Group participates virtually. Wednesdays are online for all students starting with online community building sessions in the morning followed by faculty office hours for students. This hybrid model limits the number of students in the building each day and allows for better social distancing and cleaning practices.
Judge also provides students and their families with options for the student to stay 100% online attending all classes remotely, or alternatively, for the student to attend all classes in person.
Students, faculty, staff and visitors are required to wear a mask in the building and students must complete a health screening before entering the building each day. Judge has installed plexiglass partition and numerous hand sanitizing stations, and signage has been placed throughout the school directing student to stay

Each faculty member was provided with an iPad that includes a camera and a tripod that allows teachers to interface with both in-class students and students attending virtually. Weather permitting, faculty were encouraged to hold their classes outside, whenever possible and the students were provided with their own stadium seats. The cafeteria provides box lunches and seating in the cafeteria is at a six-foot distance. Students may also eat in other designated areas around the school which offers them additional opportunities for social distancing. Also, Judge continues its tradition of grade level retreats, allowing students to interact with each other while maintaining social distancing.

So far this hybrid learning model has proven to be effective. We continue
