Letter from the Principal To the Judge Memorial Catholic High School community, I thank you with a grateful sense of joy for your ongoing support. This fall, we will welcome students into our school for the 97th year. We remain loyal to our original mission of providing a rigorous faith-filled Catholic education to all students that are eager to grow academically, physically, emotionally and spiritually. We remain stalwarts in providing opportunities for selfdiscovery and empowerment. The growth mindset prevails throughout our hallways.

While fostering a climate of love and respect we often refer back to the Golden Rule. This was placed as the first and most important policy in our student handbook. Our student leaders at the school developed our theme for the school year, “Stay Gold.� To all of our alumni, please know that our students are carrying on the tradition of excellence that you were a part of forming.

I first came to love Judge Memorial as a student. Now as the principal my heart has been opened even further as I see the faculty and staff work with such passion to provide the best for our students. I see parents supporting their children in such a loving manner. I am inspired by the drive and commitment that our students bring forth each day. I see alumni and supporters providing resources to make this all possible. This is truly a beautiful community, which will be here to support our children long after their day of graduation.

It is with great pleasure that we remain committed to providing a faith-filled education to students of all economic backgrounds. Last year we were able to deliver tuition assistance to 66% of our student body. This tuition assistance could not be possible without the help from our extraordinarily supportive community.

Mission Statement The mission of Judge Memorial Catholic High School is to create a community through faith and education that will foster the development of each student’s inherent gifts.

Philosophy As a community based on faith, Judge Memorial Catholic High School partners with parents to foster the integration of student’s spiritual, intellectual, emotional, physical, and social development. In our safe, caring, respectful environment, students are empowered to become builders of a more just society.

A Year in Review

Over the 2016-2017 academic year, Judge Memorial students have worked to fulfill the school’s mission through a variety of accomplishments.

A Year in Review The Judge Memorial student population is balanced male/female. We welcome students of all faiths, with 63% of our student self-reporting as Catholics. Sixty-nine percent of our students are Caucasian, 15% Hispanic, 8% Asian, 7% Black, 1% Native American and Pacific Islander.

Academics • The Class of 2017 earned over $15.9 million in scholarships and renewable grants • Members of the Class of 2017 were accepted by over 188 colleges and universities, and will attend 58 colleges in 30 states and Canada • 52% of the Class of 2017 graduated with honors • A senior was named a National Merit Finalist • 94% of the Class of 2017 will continue their education in a post-secondary institution in the fall of 2017

Campus Ministry and Christian Service • Students completed service projects and fundraisers locally for more than 150 organizations and agencies • Nearly 30 students were honored with the Presidential Service Award for service in the community • Two seniors named local Exchange Club's "Youth of the Year" for community service involvement and academic success • Two seniors honored by local Salt Lake City Rotary Club with “Service Above Self” scholarships

• One senior of 4,000 (out of approx. 3.5 million) high school students selected as a candidate for the 2017 US Presidential Scholars Program.

Activities and Arts

• One senior selected by the PBS NewsHour Student Reporting Lab (SRL) as one of 20 fellows to participate in the SRL Academy in Washington, D.C., summer 2017 • Robotics competed and won the “RoboPong” preseason robotics competition with a perfect score.

• One senior received a superior rating at the regional Vocal Solo/Ensemble Festival and qualified for the state competition.

• One senior was a finalist at “Youth America Grand Prix” World Ballet Competition in New York City.

• Literary Magazine awarded the rank of “Highest Award” by the National Council of Teachers of English

• Over 20 student-athletes nominated for Academic All-State over three sports seasons (fall, winter, spring)

Athletics

• One senior selected for the USAA Academic AllState 4A Team for Swimming • Girls varsity basketball placed second in the UHSAA 4A State Finals • One Junior recognized and nominated in the 1st XFINITY Sports Awards "Most Outstanding Performance" in Girls Basketball • All members of the girls' varsity tennis team qualified for State Championship

Looking Forward Dear Friends and Supporters, Preparing for the Judge Memorial Catholic High School’s Annual Report is a wonderful opportunity for us to pause and reflect upon the many memories and successes we have experienced over the last year. We are filled with gratitude from the support we have received from our Alumni, Parents, Friends, and Students. The continued support you show us each year and your effort to give back to Judge is essential in providing our students a quality faith-based, college preparatory education.

• Special thanks to a generous donor who financed the renovation of our Chapel and Peer Ministry Room. As we will always be a community of faith, these renovations are the heart of our identity and create a special place for our students to meditate, reflect and pray.

• Also a special thanks to BioFire Diagnostics, LLC for a generous donation of office and modular furniture. In addition to enhancing and modernizing the overall school environment, this furniture will facilitate collaborative student learning and activities.

Other advancements and facility improvements supported by generous donations and grants: • Printing press for the Art Department • New instruments and equipment for our Science Department that now offers an advanced student-centered, inquiry based laboratory environment.

• New classroom ventilation systems on the third floor • A state of the art 85” monitor / display screen for our gymnasium • Support for teacher training and education • Scholarships and tuition assistance • Challenge grant for our Annual Fund

Our Annual Gala, A Night to Remember, Believe and Celebrate was moved to January this year and it proved to be a huge success. A good time was had by all. So please mark your calendars for January 27, 2018, the date for next year’s Gala.

We will be hosting our Annual Pre-Game Social for all Judge Alumni on Friday, September 8, 2017 – Judge’s 2017 Homecoming Game. Light food and beverages will be provided. We hope you can join us.

I would like to thank all of you who supported last year’s Annual Fund. I cannot stress how important this fundraising program is to our continuing effort to build on a strong foundation and offer our students an opportunity for personal development in a superior academic and faith-based environment.

Each year we ask that 100% of our current parents, faculty, staff, past parents, and alumni make a gift to the Annual Fund at whatever level possible. Every gift is important; every gift is appreciated; every gift makes a difference. The commitment and dedication of the board of advisors, faculty, and staff at Judge combined with the support and generosity of our parents, alumni and other benefactors all contributed to the success of last year’s campaign.

Finally, thank you for all of your kind words of support over the past year. I look forward to meeting many more of you in the new Advancement and Alumni House, and at this year’s school events.
