The Future of Sound | Proposal for Seinheiser Presented by Hyphen Hub 2018

The power of Sennheiser's 3D Audio specialization technology allows us to put ourselves in the ears of another species to experience the jungle as the cotton-top monkey of the Amazon jungle.

Speaking about biodiversity and sound implies understanding the relationships and power of communication in natural networks (such as jungles). What happens when one of the communication agents of the jungle disappears? How can technology help us to listen to the world from a different perspective? How to use innovative technology to generate empathy for a species that is about to disappear?

We understand the future as interconnection, technology as the possibility of understanding the other and empowering us through empathy. This proposal understands the future of sound from the importance that it has in the survival of an ecosystem, and from the power that technology gives us to connect with the other.

The sound produced by the cotton-topped monkey is vital because it encodes, through the cry, the dangers that threaten the jungle, the other monkeys and animals of the jungle. The process of disappearance of the species (partly because of the indiscriminate felling of forests) causes this species to be on the verge of extinction - it is likely that this species will disappear in the coming years if preventive measures are not taken.

The proposal in particular is to use an experimental prosthesis designed to simulate the acoustic shell of the cotton-topped monkey in addition to using the latest technology of recording, synthesis and mixing of 3D audio, to compose and reproduce the habitat of the monkey in the Amazon jungle in all its complexity sound from the perspective of the animal, simulating how it experiences its sound ecosystem with a range of frequencies much wider than that of the human being.

The result is a unique spatial experience that will take the viewer through the tops of the trees of the Amazon, a vital lung for the planet earth that every day faces more threats due to environmental problems such as deforestation and pollution.
