Constructed between 1804 and 1806, Pennington Street Warehouse is a Grade II listed former bonded warehouse with a semi-basement of brick vaulted cellars, originally used for the storage of rum and spices.
JTP’s creative reuse and adaptation of the warehouse has reimagined the space appreciating the unique character of the building and its contrasting spaces; respecting its historic features and the scars of its former life.
An exemplar workspace, Pennington Street Warehouse has been designed to be a creative, sustainable and healthy studio with a focus on collaboration, wellbeing and biophilia.
All materials and products specified throughout the studio have a cradle-to-grave Environmental Product Declaration, ensuring sustainable options have been used.
Great consideration has gone into embedding acoustic absorption in furnishings, utilising natural light and offering sensory elements to help cognitive accessibility.
Creating a healthy environment, free of volatile organic compounds (VOC) has been key to the transformation of the building. Throughout the design, construction and in occupation, JTP was stringent in its selection of products and finishes. Every material – paint, timber, fabric, furniture and cleaning product – is VOC-free.
The Studio has achieved a ‘Very Good’ BREEAM rating of 58.07%, in excess of the 55% requirement.
In an open plan studio environment, The Western Mezzanine is a distinct space with dramatic views across the wider studio, atrium and The Hub; a social space in the heart of the studio for gathering.
