The User Group AIR or Artists in Residence is open to all types of artists or designers i.e.

• visual • digital • conceptual • sculptural • writers • poets • dancers • musicians All and Any type of Artists will have the opportunity to live in the building with their partner.

They will be able to stay from a minimum one week up to maximum 12 weeks.

The Building design has to allow uses for – • Both gender types • Age differences • Cultural Backgrounds • Interests • Privacy

A space where artists can create new Artwork

A space where artists can focus on their practice away from their usual environment

The building footprint must be no more than 70 m2 including a 2nd level but excluding outdoor areas

DESIGN STATEMENT THE ARTISTS IN RESEDENCE PROGRAM OR A.I.R HAS OFFERED US STUDENTS THIS OPPORTUNITY TO CREATE OUR OWN PIECE OF ART, TO DESIGN AND VISUALIZE HOW ARTISTS WILL COME INTO THIS ENVIROMENT WHERE THEIR MINDS CAN FLOW FREELY TO REFLECT ON AND CREATE NEW ART, MY IDEA OF THIS CONCEPT COMES FROM SHAPE OR SHAPE FORM, A SHAPE IS THE FORM OF AN OBJECT OR ITS EXTERNAL BOUNDARY, OUTLINE, OR EXTERNAL SURFACE, AS OPPOSED TO OTHER PROPERTIES SUCH AS COLOR, TEXTURE OR MATERIAL TYPE. LOOKING INTO THE ARCHITECTURE OF SHAPE OR SHAPES IN ARCHITECTURE AND RESEARCHING THE ARCHITYPE BRINGS ABOUT A LOT OF AMAZING ENDLESS IDEAS IN ALL FORMS OF SHAPES AND SIZES, I HAVE HANDED IN A COUPLE OF DIFFERENT SKETCHES OF VAROIS SHAPES AND VAROIUS COMBINATIONS OF SHAPES, MY FINAL CONCEPT OR THE CONCEPT THAT I WISH TO MOVE FURTHER INTO CONSISTS OF 3 SEPARATE BUILDINGS THAT ARE CONNECTED BY A HALL, STARTING FROM THE LEFT OF THE SITE THE 1ST BUILDING IS IN A SHAPE OF A TRIANGLE HOUSING AN OPEN SPACE REQUIRED FOR THE ARTISTS TO DO THEIR WORK, THE 2 ND BUILDING IS A RECTANGLE SHAPE WHICH IS IN THE CENTRE CONSISTS OF THE CENTRAL FACILITY HOUSING THE ENTRY, KITCHEN, LOUNGE, DINNING, THE 3RD BUILDING IS A RECTANGLE SHAPE ASWELL WITH A LITTLE NIB IN 1 CORNER THAT WILL HOUSE THE MASTER BEDROOM, A WALKIN ROBE, ENSUITE, AND AN OUTDOOR SHOWER THESE 3 BUILDINGS ARE ALL DIFFERENT SHAPES AND WITH THE VIEW FROM ABOVE OR THE VIEW FROM THE CITY THIS WILL SPELL OUT THE INITIALS OF THE PROJECT “A.I.R”. THE COLORS I LOOK TO USE VERY MUCH RELATIVE TO THE SITE ITSELF SHOWING VAIOUS EARTHY NATURAL COLORS, FROM THE DARK ROCKS, THE BROWN TREE BARKS, THE GREEN GRASS AND TREES SURROUNDING, THE NAVY-BLUE RIVER WATER THAT IS METERS AWAY TO THE LIGHT BLUE SKIES AND PUFFY WHITE CLOUDS ABOVE. ID ALSO LIKE TO ADD AND RELATE THIS PROJECT TO THE WORD AIR, AS AIR IS A SUBSTANCE THAT SURROUNDS THE WORLD AND IS EXTREAMLY IMPORTANT TO US ALL AND IS NEEDED A LOT IN ALL THE ARTS THAT ALL ARTISTS CREATE WEATHER IT BE FROM FINE ART, DRAWING, PAINTINGS, MUSIC PRODUCTION, SCULPTURE MAKING ETC, AIR HAS A HUGE PART TO PLAY I AM CONFIDENT AND I HAVE MUCH BELIEF THAT THE CONCEPT THAT I AM WORKING ON WILL MOVE ON FURTHER AND SERVE ITS PURPOSE AS A PIECE OF ART.
