LAND ACQUISITIONS
Sarasota County’s Land Acquisition and Management Program includes both the Environmentally Sensitive Lands Protection Program (ESLPP) and the Neighborhood Parkland Acquisition Program (NPP). These voter-approved and taxpayer-funded programs are designed to acquire and protect environmental lands and parklands throughout Sarasota County.
Program Overview
Since the programs began in 1999 and 2005, the county has protected over 110 properties totaling approximately 42,000 acres.
Acquiring environmental lands enhances biodiversity, protects species and habitats, and connects lands to create wildlife corridors and nature-based recreational areas.
Successful parkland acquisitions provide community access, preserve natural and cultural resources, and increase recreational opportunities for water and trail access.
WHAT ARE CONSERVATION EASEMENTS?
Conservation easements remove the land’s development rights and require the landowner, current and future, to protect the land for greenways, water quality, habitat and wildlife protection in perpetuity.
