Jacob Truelove-Cooke Product Design Portfolio Yr 2

N0852184@my.ntu.ac.uk +447530657482

I’m Jacob Truelove-Cooke and this is my Portfolio I am a Hardworking, outgoing and eminently self-motivated individual, with an aptitude for working within a team environment. Currently I am in my second year of Study at Nottingham Trent University, studying Product Design Bsc, with an onlook to enter into the industrial subset of design due to my analytical and empirical approach. These qualities paired with practicality have allowed me to thrive within a workshop environment, building a diverse skill set with an ever growing interest to further and expand. With the continuous development of my ability to use software such as the Adobe Creative Suite, Fusion AutoCad 360, Solidworks and Keyshot through my university education, paired with the work in industry I am undertaking, has enabled me to blossom as a designer and find my niche of interest.

UVH2GO Sustainable Water Sterilisation System Engineers Without Borders Design Competition Group Project : 4 weeks Part 2 (Report) : 1 Week

The brief: Consider the challenges faced by the people of Lobitos and Piedritas on the northern coast of Peru. Define a solution that presents an improvement to their day to day living and fully justify this ensuring it remains relevant to the local area, consider ultilizing the local resources of material and labour and looking more holistically at improving the lives for the local people. Objectives: • Demonstrate how you and your team can be the engineers of the Future by responding to Challenges the Comunity is Facing. • Show our understanding of the context and giving appropriate consideration to all relevant Social, Enviromental and Economic Factors. • A Reasoned Approach to your engineering design.

First Response Band (FRB) The brief: Consider the challenges faced by healthcare professionals and clinicians during their day to day activities of reporting, referring, collating and referencing data and information. Identify their challenges and define a solution that solves the opportunities you identify, fully justifying your recommendations and further fully presenting back your recommendation and further development of your solution as a fully defined design, ready for manufacture.

FutureNova live brief following a Design Sprint Developing a Concept and CAD Project Project Duration : 2 weeks

Objectives: • Show how you can be a design engineer of the future by responding to the challenges the healthcare profession is facing • Your understanding of the context and giving appropriate consideration to all your research findings and applying this in a reasoned way to deliver relevant social, environmental and economic factors • A reasoned approach to your engineering design • Ability to articulate rationale for design decisions in accordance with factors described above • To deliver a solution that is executed to a production standard demonstrating your CAD skills and productionmanufacturing knowledge

Storyboard to Demonstate both Application & Function

1

firstly pick up the bracelet and decide the hand it is to be worn on.

start sliding the band over all your fingers making its way towards your wrist.

Jacob Truelove-Cooke PD Bsc Yr 2 Portfolio

Taking the bracelet onto the hand. start to stretch the hand over your hand while alsopulling your thumb to the little finger to reduce hand span.

2

3

5

4

To access the ICE form for reafing or use, hold a device over the rfid section of the bracelet. this will open the ICE form contained within the bracelet. This method is for both set up and use in real life situations.

Now the Bracelet is in position for wearing in day to day life.

15

Components Passive RFID Strip

The Passive rfid requires no other counterparts, hecne it can be sealed into the design. it holds within a digital ICE form which moves around both the hot area of using an unconcious persons phone without permission but also removes the need for contact - COVID-19.

Medi-Condition Symbol

The Medi symbols are a new take on the old bands. unlike old bands which blatantly spell out the disabilities or conditions in bold for anyone to read. these bands have symbols which are discrete but when inspected under a closer look clearly identify the same conditions. (same mat. as band)

FRB Seemless Band.

The Stretch band is beneficial to the product as it removes all crevices that bacteria would usually reside within a strap such as the notches on buckes or clips. The LSR is soft to the touch, two colour choices.

Milk Dispenser System

Reduction of Plastic Packaging Tesco’s Live Brief

The brief: Consider the high volume, high frequency products of food and drink within Tesco retail stores; what solutions would help to support Tesco’s goal to reduce plastic usage by 50%? Design a system/product that provides a refillable or reuseable alternative for an area within a specific category within Tesco stores. The solution should offer customers, convenience, simplicity and value. Use relevant research including the ‘GreenPeace UK report’ to identify the high impact areas and further to substantiate your decisons and targeted product area to focus on.

2 Weeks

Objectives: • Overall a key question that the business is looking for solutions to is: How does the business convert users from disposable to re-useable? • Define and identify the pain points within the users retail shopping journey, where there is an opportunity to replace the existing way customers buy product and propose with a new product/ system to support the overarching goals of the business with a unique refillable / and or reuseable solution /system. • The solution should be a physical product but may incorporate a system. In all cases, consider the whole supply chain (from production to shelf and/or home) and not only the forward facing product for the user.
