Chief Officer Robin Smith recognises the commitment and dedication of States of Jersey Police during the Covid pandemic by awarding them a Force Commendation. For the first time in States of Jersey Police’s history the Chief Officer has awarded all staff a Force Commendation in recognition for their commitment and dedication during the global pandemic. Chief of Police, Robin Smith was joined by Minister for Home Affairs Deputy Gregory Guida, Assistant Minister Deputy Lindsay Ash, Dr Jason Lane Chairman of Jersey Police Authority, and senior colleagues from the Honorary Police. In acknowledging their efforts, all members of staff are being given certificates and a ‘challenge coin’ during what has been nationally named, Operation Talla. The Chief Officer was also joined by author and local resident Peter James who generously sponsored the commemorative coins for SOJP staff and Honorary officers. Robin Smith said: “It’s been an extraordinary two years. I’m so proud of how my team have responded to the threat of the pandemic. These really were unprecedented times but typically they just got on with the important job of keeping the islander’s safe by adapting to new ways of working with the minimum of fuss for which they have earned my deep appreciation. Operational Talla also highlighted the strength of our close partnership with the Honorary Police who did an equally remarkable job. I am delighted to also recognise their efforts by giving them commemorative coins. In years to come officers and staff will no doubt reflect on the impact of the global pandemic in Jersey and say, ‘we were there.’ I’m extremely grateful to Peter James for his generosity in sponsoring the coins and enabling us to demonstrate our appreciation to colleagues in this way.”
