Calf Scramble Sponsors

As soon as the line of young men and women wearing white t-shirts enter the arena, the audience knows it’s about to get good because it’s time for the Calf Scramble. It’s a time-honored tradition

throughout the Stock Show’s rodeo performances, including the Ranch Rodeo, Cowboys of Color, Bulls’ Night Out PRCA Extreme Bull Riding, Texas Champions Challenge and all FWSSR PRORODEO Tournament performances (with the exception of the Finals). Each performance, 20 4-H and FFA students compete to catch one of the 10 calves turned loose in the arena. For the audience, every calf scramble participant is a favorite – applause and shouts of encouragement are encouraged. For students that manage to catch and bring their calves to the center of the arena, a $500 certificate will be awarded for their use in purchasing a beef or dairy heifer.

The excitement and suspense doesn’t end there. Winners care for their heifers during the following 12 months, writing monthly reports and a final essay to demonstrate their competence in stockmanship. Students will show their heifers during the 2023 Stock Show for premium awards and the anticipation of scholarship awards recognizing their work as a “scrambler.”

Thanks to Justin Brands, Inc., those who don’t catch a calf won’t go home empty-handed. They will receive a free pair of Justin boots for their efforts.
