Acting President

Hello everyone, and welcome to a great year at JCU!

My name’s Amie, and I am currently your acting president for JCUSA.

I started my time in the council last year in the role of post-graduate officer, which I was passionate about as I am currently undertaking my Masters in Global Change Biology and would love to see more services and support for post-grad students. I then stepped into the Vice President position where I could continue to serve students and make a real difference in the organization! I will continue working towards making a more exciting and active atmosphere on campus, engaging with students striving to represent them!

We have had a fantastic start to the year with O’week, with some of our biggest turnouts at events in Cairns that we have seen in the last 5 years. I’m keen to keep this energy going throughout the semester and engage with students through consistent events. With our highest influx of international students since COVID, now is the time to really up the student engagement and improve the life and well-being of students on campus and studying remotely.

One thing I am most excited about in this role is boosting the number of clubs and societies at JCU. Coming from Adelaide and starting at JCU last year, I felt there was a lack of clubs and places where you could find people with similar interests to yours. Since finding a club to join, I have made some amazing friends and people I would never have met otherwise. I want every JCU student to have access to this experience – of connecting to like-minded people in different ways outside of classes. I would encourage everyone with an idea for a club to make it a reality, and at JCUSA we’re here to help make that happen!

With many fresh faces on the student council this year, I am feeling positive and excited for what 2023 has to bring for JCUSA and the student body.
