stories with impact One by one, artisans adhere trails of tiny beads and sequins onto large coated-cotton sheets . The patience and intricacy of this process is pronounced in the elegant and fine details of the finished products.

In March 2014, Matr Boomie and a group of 8 U.S. fair trade stores embarked on an artisan tour across India. One group they met with was an artisan group that creates many of Matr Boomie’s jewelry products.

Retailers witnessed first-hand the detailed process that went into the creation of the cleopatra collection, and were impressed by the detailed process. Beauty was found not only in the art forms, but in the unity of people from different backgrounds and cultures.

stories with impact In 2014, Matr Boomie’s team in India established two new training centers near the crochet artisan communities. These are HIV infected areas and stigmas against the disease still remain.

These stigmas cause some to avoid the help they need in order to keep their secret. Our intention was to provide training to the known victims as well as to motivate unidentified patients to participate as well, without discrimination. Successfully, over 60 women signed their names for the training program.

This program provides tailoring skills that these women can then use as a tool of self-reliance and income generation. Most importantly, they can do so in a safe and supporting environment.

These training centers dissolved boundaries and raised spirits.
