LIVING WELL QUARTER Swindon Regeneration Project

The Living Well Quarter regeneration project in Swindon aimed for an innovative net-zero public realm with nine mediumscale buildings, emphasising well-being and community engagement. My design includes a co-working space with creative workshops and a community cafe, addressing the pandemic’s impact by fostering a sociable workspace and encouraging local engagement. The existing brick structure is retained, enhanced with a new timber inner leaf for structural integrity and thermal insulation. A new timber-framed extension and a rear structure made from prefabricated straw panels are also incorporated.

For the public realm, our goal was to regenerate without causing gentrification, creating a safe space for continuous usage and natural surveillance to address the high crime rate. We revived the area’s nightlife without promoting excessive drinking, considering the local Goa community, offering alternative options like restaurants, music, and arts venues. The design caters to all age groups with spaces for relaxation, play, and social interaction, including a community sports center for children and teenagers and a yoga studio for older individuals.

Swindon Regeneration Project

Regen Bridge was a four-week group project, collaborating with

In my role, I primarily focused on residential buildings, involving tasks like drawing structural general arrangements, creating 3D models, and site research. Notably, I contributed to extending a 19th-century London building with timber elements, creating detailed plans and models and participating in design discussions. CEREMONY

Celebration Venue

The Ceremony project was a university project dedicated to designing a venue for wedding ceremonies and celebrations of life. I aimed to create a venue that benefits from the panoramic views of Bath city and creates a striking focal point in the natural surroundings. The barrel vault form, which houses the ceremony hall, and reception and restaurant area, is clad in copper. The angular structure pierces through the barrel vault to break up its pure form. This building contains the service areas and is clad in weathered timber, to contrast against the shiny orange of the copper.

BATHWICK FIELDS Housing Scheme

During a four-week collaboration with three fellow architecture students, we developed a housing scheme on the outskirts of Bath city centre. Our collaborative masterplan aimed to foster a self-sustaining community with a focus on a low carbon footprint. Central to this concept was a communal allotment serving as the scheme’s focal point, complemented by facilities for livestock to reduce food miles through on-site production.

Emphasising reduced car usage, parking spaces were discreetly located at the site’s edge, shielded by trees. This layout encouraged free movement for residents and safe play areas for children, while each home included dedicated bike storage, promoting cycling as the primary mode of transport.

Our vision extended to a community building offering diverse amenities—a flexible co-working space enabling remote work, a multi-use area, and a gardening tool library to store shared equipment and surplus produce.

While jointly designing the masterplan, each of us crafted our unique housing designs; mine focused on the semi-detached layout.

I designed a compact yet functional two-bedroom semidetached house tailored for small families and couples. The central feature was a stairwell surrounded by ceiling-height columns and a light well, flooding the the heart of the home with natural light and serving as a captivating focal point.

To maximise functionality and light, I incorporated a split-level design downstairs, defining separate areas for the living room and kitchen within an open-plan space. Rather than using traditional fencing, I continued the columns to the exterior, to define outdoor spaces, balancing privacy between residences while fostering a sense of connection.

This project centered on a cooperative initiative aimed at rejuvenating an abandoned island along the northeastern coast of the United Kingdom. The goal was to introduce live-work housing, fostering the emergence of a new community and island economy.

My clients, a young couple skilled in ceramics, envisioned a home that seamlessly integrated living quarters with a dedicated pottery studio. The structure needed to be constructed from load-bearing masonry, specifically utilising reclaimed bricks from the island. Given strict limitations on openings within the enclosure wall, the interplay between internal and external spaces demanded meticulous consideration and thoughtful planning.
