PRAYER OF CONFESSION Gracious Lord, our lips often say, “Thy Kingdom Come,” but our hearts are far from seeking Your Kingdom and Your righteousness. We put our hope in other things and other projects, and in the end are surprised at our disappointment. Our actions center on fulfilling our desires and seldom center on preparing the way for Your coming. Renew our faith in Your Kingdom and restore our hope in Your coming. And he said to them, “Truly I tell you, some who are standing here will not taste death before they see that the kingdom of God has come with power.” After six days Jesus took Peter, James and John with him and led them up a high mountain, where they were all alone. There he was transfigured before them. His clothes became dazzling white, whiter than anyone in the world could bleach them. And there appeared before them Elijah and Moses, who were talking with Jesus.
Peter said to Jesus, “Rabbi, it is good for us to be here. Let us put up three shelters—one for you, one for Moses and one for Elijah.” (He did not know what to say, they were so frightened.) Then a cloud appeared and covered them, and a voice came from the cloud: “This is my Son, whom I love. The spread of the coronavirus across the world and our country has created an incredibly stressful environment for all of us, especially those with underlying health conditions. Because we are socially isolated and the media bombards us with the latest numbers on COVID-19 cases and deaths, we experience a roller coaster of emotions. Our reactions can fluctuate from disbelief, denial, anxiety, fear, anger, and even depression. The Session is continuing its policy that masks or face shields are required for everyone who attends worship with the exception of children age five and under (who must remain with guardians at all times). A mask or face shield must be worn when you are entering the building, during the worship service and the entire time you are on the church campus (bring one from home or one will be provided). For those who are unable to wear a mask or face shield due to medical reasons, The Session feels that you are safer at home.
