J.S. Bach

*CALL TO WORSHIP from Psalm 103:1-5 Leader: People: Leader: People: Leader: People: Leader: People: Leader: People:

Bless the Lord, O my soul, and all that is within me. Bless God’s holy name. Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget none of His blessings. Who forgives all your sins; Who heals your illnesses; Who redeems your life from the pit; Who crowns you with loving kindness and compassion; Who fills your days with good things. Your strength is renewed like the eagle. Bless the Lord, O my soul, and all that is within me. Bless God’s holy name. Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget none of God’s blessings.

We Give Thee but Thine Own

1. We give Thee but Thine own, Whate'er the gift may be. All that we have is Thine alone A trust, O Lord, from Thee.

William How

2. May we Thy bounties thus As stewards true receive, And gladly as thou blessest us, To Thee our first-fruits give.

3. And we believe thy Word, though dim our faith may be; whate'er for thine we do, O Lord, we do it unto thee. *AFFIRMATION OF FAITH (Apostles’ Creed)

I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ His only Son our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; He descended into hell; the third day He rose again from the dead; He ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence He shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen. *GLORY BE TO THE FATHER Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost, As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, world without end. Amen, amen.

PRAYER OF CONFESSION Gracious Lord, our lips often say, “Thy Kingdom Come,” but our hearts are far from seeking Your Kingdom and Your righteousness. We put our hope in other things and other projects, and in the end are surprised at our disappointment. Our actions center on fulfilling our desires and seldom center on preparing the way for Your coming. Renew our faith in Your Kingdom and restore our hope in Your coming. For it is in Christ Jesus that we live and move and have our being. Amen. ASSURANCE OF PARDON (2 Corinthians 1:21-22) Leader:

All:

It is God who makes us stand firm in Christ. He anointed us, set his seal of ownership on us, and put his Spirit in our hearts as a deposit, guaranteeing what is to come. Therefore, let us assure one another of God's pardon. In Jesus Christ, we are forgiven. Thanks be to God.

PRAYER OF ILLUMINATION Spirit of God, speak once again through the Words of Scripture that our listening ears may hear Your voice. Help us to place Your Word in our minds, treasure it in our hearts, choose it with our wills, and live it through our bodies. In Christ’s name we pray. Amen. SCRIPTURE

Mark 10:17-27

As Jesus started on his way, a man ran up to him and fell on his knees before him. “Good teacher,” he asked, “what must I do to inherit eternal life?” “Why do you call me good?” Jesus answered. “No one is good—except God alone. You know the commandments: ‘You shall not murder, you shall not commit adultery, you shall not steal, you shall not give false testimony, you shall not defraud, honor your father and mother.’ ” “Teacher,” he declared, “all these I have kept since I was a boy.” Jesus looked at him and loved him. “One thing you lack,” he said. “Go, sell everything you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.” At this the man’s face fell. He went away sad, because he had great wealth. Jesus looked around and said to his disciples, “How hard it is for the rich to enter the kingdom of God!”

The disciples were amazed at his words. But Jesus said again, “Children, how hard it is to enter the kingdom of God! It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of God.” The disciples were even more amazed, and said to each other, “Who then can be saved?” Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but not with God; all things are possible with God.” Leader: This is the word of the Lord. All: Thanks be to God! PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE

Scripture for October 11th

Mark 10:32-34 Mark 10:35-45

TODAY’S Flowers are provided by Sara Sebransky in honor of Eleanor Wilcox Rea

Dear DHPC family, Tom and I want to express our appreciation to you for walking alongside us for the last number of months. You have gone above and beyond in demonstrating the love of Christ. I have always helped others; so, it was hard to accept help when we needed it. Throughout the COVID restrictions, you provided meals, transportation to the hospital and doctor appointments, bought and delivered our groceries. You cleaned our house, took our donations to a charity, brought us boxes, packed our belongings, and helped us move. You facilitated discussions about the decision to move or not. You listened and encouraged us through big decisions. You have checked on us with phone calls, emails, and visits. Women on the Walking Beside team treated me with so much respect and courtesy that they served as Christian role models for our family, which has consequently caused a change in behavior. What a gift you have given us in the way you live and serve our Lord. We have never loved a church as much as DHPC! Thank you from the bottom of our hearts. -Barbara & Tom Purnell

The spread of the coronavirus across the world and our country has created an incredibly stressful environment for all of us, especially those with underlying health conditions. Because we are socially isolated and the media bombards us with the latest numbers on COVID-19 cases and deaths, we experience a roller coaster of emotions. Our reactions can fluctuate from disbelief, denial, anxiety, fear, anger, and even depression. If you’d like someone to talk with, our team members would be glad to visit with you by phone or in person. Barb Conti Joe Gilleland Moon Kahn Shirley Klein Sue Palmer
