Leader: The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it, People: the world, and all who live in it;

Leader: for He founded it upon the seas

People: and established it upon the waters.

Leader: Let us seek the Lord in prayer.

*AFFIRMATION OF FAITH (Apostles’ Creed)

I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; He descended into hell; the third day He rose again from the dead; He ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence He shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost, The holy catholic church, The communion of saints, The forgiveness of sins, The resurrection of the body, And the life everlasting. Amen.

*GLORY BE TO THE FATHER

PRAYER OF CONFESSION

Gracious Lord, forgive us our sins. We believe that our faith is so personal, we act as though we have a right to refuse to share it with the world You love. Being reluctant to forgive ourselves, we fail to proclaim the good news of Your forgiveness. And being judgmental, we refuse to let others claim the mercy You extend to all who call Jesus their Lord and Savior. Being arrogant, we declare ourselves to be good and not needing the assistance of One who saves. Open our hearts that we might fully experience Your boundless love in Jesus the Christ. And send us forth to share with others the good news of Your love for the world. For it is in His name we pray. Amen.

ASSURANCE OF PARDON (1 John 1:9)

Leader: If we confess our sins, God is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. Therefore, let us assure one another of God’s pardon. All: In Jesus Christ, we are forgiven. Thanks be to God.

PRAYER OF ILLUMINATION

Spirit of God, speak once again through the Words of Scripture that our listening ears may hear Your voice. Help us to place Your Word in our minds, treasure it in our hearts, choose it with our wills, and live it through our bodies. In Christ’s name we pray. Amen.

SCRIPTURE

Leader: This is the word of the Lord. All: Thanks be to God!

ANTHEM

Titus 3:1-11

There’s a Wideness in God’s Mercy arr. Mark Schweitzer Chancel Choir and Handbell Choir

There’s a wideness in God’s mercy Like the wideness of the sea; There’s a kindness in His justice Which is more than liberty. There is welcome for the sinner And more graces for the good; There is mercy with the Savior; There is healing in His blood.

There is no place where earth’s sorrows Are more felt than up in heav’n; There is no place where earth’s failings Have such kindly judgement giv’n. There is plentiful redemption In the blood that has been shed; There is joy for all the members In the sorrows of the Head.

For the love of God is broader Than the measure of the mind; And the heart of the Eternal Is most wonderfully kind. If our love were but more faithful, We should take Him at His word; And our life would be thanksgiving For the goodness of the Lord.

PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE

THE LORD’S PRAYER

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread.

And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever. Amen.
