D. Buxtehude

*CALL TO WORSHIP Leader: People: Leader: People: Leader:

O Come, let us sing for joy to the Lord. Let us shout joyfully to the rock of our salvation. Let us come before God’s presence with thanksgiving in our hearts. Let us shout joyfully to God with songs of praise. Let us turn to the Lord in prayer.

#169, vs. 1-3

Rejoice, Ye Pure in Heart 1. Rejoice, ye pure in heart; Rejoice, give thanks, and sing. Your festal banner wave on high The cross of Christ, your King.

Plumptre

Refrain: Rejoice, rejoice, Rejoice, give thanks, and sing! 2. With all the angel choirs, With all the saints on earth, Pour out the strains of joy and bliss, True rapture, noblest mirth! Refrain 3. Yes, on thro' life's long path, Still chanting as ye go; From youth to age, by night and day, In gladness and in woe, Refrain *AFFIRMATION OF FAITH (Apostles’ Creed) I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ His only Son our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; He descended into hell; the third day He rose again from the dead; He ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence He shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen. page 3

*GLORY BE TO THE FATHER

#813

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost, As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, world without end. Amen, amen. PRAYER OF CONFESSION Almighty God, in love You spread good gifts before us, more than we need or deserve. You feed, heal, teach and save us. We confess that we always want more, that we seldom share as freely as You give. We resent what we lack and are jealous of our neighbors. Forgive our misuse of what You intend for joy. In Your mercy, help us to take such pleasure in Your goodness that we always give You thanks for what we have and are willing to share our joy with others. Through Jesus Christ, we pray. Amen. ASSURANCE OF PARDON (2 Corinthians 1:21-22) Leader:

All:

It is God who makes us stand firm in Christ. He anointed us, set his seal of ownership on us, and put his Spirit in our hearts as a deposit, guaranteeing what is to come. Therefore, let us assure one another of God's pardon. In Jesus Christ, we are forgiven. Thanks be to God.

PRAYER OF ILLUMINATION Spirit of God, speak once again through the Words of Scripture that our listening ears may hear Your voice. Help us to place Your Word in our minds, treasure it in our hearts, choose it with our wills, and live it through our bodies. In Christ’s name we pray. Amen. SCRIPTURE

Mark 12:35-40

While Jesus was teaching in the temple courts, he asked, “Why do the teachers of the law say that the Messiah is the son of David? David himself, speaking by the Holy Spirit, declared: “‘The Lord said to my Lord: “Sit at my right hand until I put your enemies under your feet.”’ David himself calls him ‘Lord.’ How then can he be his son?” The large crowd listened to him with delight. As he taught, Jesus said, “Watch out for the teachers of the law. They like to walk around in flowing robes and be greeted with respect in the marketplaces, and have the most important seats in the synagogues and the places of honor at banquets. They devour widows’ houses and for a show make lengthy prayers. These men will be punished most severely.” Leader: This is the word of the Lord. All: Thanks be to God!

Adversity is a condition of suffering and hardship involving anguish, pressure, trials, heartaches, or disappointments. It may be physical or emotional in nature, and either long or short in duration, but it always causes pain. Although none of us want hurt or trouble, if it comes, we have two options. We can waste our sorrows or grow in our relationship with the Lord. Spiritual growth in adversity depends on several factors; one of which is to equip us to comfort others. That is where your Walking Beside ministers can make a difference -- meeting your need by providing care, compassion, community, and a listening ear. Give us a call.

Sister Churches One in Christ Leupp, Jamaica & DHPC

Join the 2020 Faith Family Video with Our Sister Churches Share Your Covid-19 God Sightings

The Lord has brought DHPC, Leupp and Jamaica together in ministry as the Clan of Christ showing the world how to be “One in Christ.” This year, for the first time, we will not be sharing in worship, ministry, and friendship together. When we missed our annual spring trip to Leupp, we posted a love message on the Hope Resurrected Facebook page. There we shared our prayers and fond memories of good times together. Now is when we would normally share our ministries with a Fall Faith Festival. Instead, we are creating a Faith Family Video by sharing stories of how the COVID-19 pandemic has affected our lives and ministries. Join pastors Jim, Brett, Calvin and Khereen by participating in our Faith Family Video with your story. Suggested topics include: •God sightings we have witnessed during COVID19. •How we are staying sane with lockdowns, masks, and social distancing? •How the kids are coping with the social distancing? •How the kids and college students are going to school? •How we are staying connected to the community during COVID-19? •How we are connecting with Friends and Family during COVID-19? •What insights we have made during COVID-19? •How we have engaged in ministry during COVID-19? •Choose your own story experience unique to you. Stories from DHPC, Leupp and Jamaica will be assembled in a Faith Family Video with inspirational music to be shared as sister churches in Christ.

You are invited to tell your story. Ways to tell your story... •Self-introduced story •Discussion with family •Interview with questions •Your way to express your thoughts To participate in our virtual gathering with Leupp and Jamaica contact Chuck Starnes for more information. Send an Email to cstarnes33@gmail.com or text 623-261-8969 by December 1, 2020. page 10

In addition, The Session is continuing its policy that masks or face shields are required for everyone who attends worship with the exception of children age five and under (who must remain with guardians at all times). A mask or face shield must be worn when you are entering the building, during the worship service and the entire time you are on the church campus (bring one from home or one will be provided). For those who are unable to wear a mask or face shield due to medical reasons, The Session feels that you are safer at home.
