*AFFIRMATION OF FAITH (Apostles’ Creed) I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ His only Son our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; He descended into hell; the third day He rose again from the dead; He ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence He shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen. *GLORY BE TO THE FATHER Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost, As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, world without end. Amen, amen.

PRAYER OF CONFESSION Lord Jesus, we confess the blindness that is not aware of sinning, the pride that dares not admit it is wrong, the self that sees nothing but its own will, the “righteousness” that knows no fault, and the callousness that has ceased to care. We are aware that our sin has crippled us in life, brought suffering into the lives of others, and created great divisions and walls of hostility. Forgive us, Lord. Enable us to rise to our feet and walk in this world as people more in Your image. In Jesus' name we pray, Amen. ASSURANCE OF PARDON (II Corinthians 5:17) Leader: If anyone is in Christ, they are a new creature; the old has passed away; behold, the new has come. Therefore, let us assure one another of God's pardon. All: In Jesus Christ, we are forgiven. Amen. ANTHEM

PRAYER OF ILLUMINATION Spirit of God, speak once again through the Words of Scripture that our listening ears may hear Your voice. Help us to place Your Word in our minds, treasure it in our hearts, choose it with our wills, and live it through our bodies. In Christ’s name we pray. Amen. SCRIPTURE READING
Mark 2:1-12

A few days later, when Jesus again entered Capernaum, the people heard that he had come home. 2 They gathered in such large numbers that there was no room left, not even outside the door, and he preached the word to them. 3 Some men came, bringing to him a paralyzed man, carried by four of them. 4 Since they could not get him to Jesus because of the crowd, they made an opening in the roof above Jesus by digging through it and then lowered the mat the man was lying on. 5 When Jesus saw their faith, he said to the paralyzed man, “Son, your sins are forgiven.” 6
Now some teachers of the law were sitting there, thinking to themselves, 7 “Why does this fellow talk like that? He’s blaspheming! Who can forgive sins but God alone?” 8
Immediately Jesus knew in his spirit that this was what they were thinking in their hearts, and he said to them, “Why are you thinking these things? 9 Which is easier: to say to this paralyzed man, ‘Your sins are forgiven,’ or to say, ‘Get up, take your mat and walk’? 10 But I want you to know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins.” So he said to the man, 11 “I tell you, get up, take your mat and go home.” 12 He got up, took his mat and walked out in full view of them all. This amazed everyone and they praised God, saying, “We have never seen anything like this!”
Leader: This is the word of the Lord. All: Thanks be to God! PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE THE LORD’S PRAYER Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever. Amen.

The spread of the coronavirus across the world and our country has created an incredibly stressful environment for all of us, especially those with underlying health conditions. Because we are socially isolated and the media bombards us with the latest numbers on COVID-19 cases and deaths, we experience a roller coaster of emotions. Our reactions can fluctuate from disbelief, denial, anxiety, fear, anger, and even depression. If you’d like someone to talk with, our team members would be glad to visit with you by phone or in person.

MESSAGE FROM FINANCE COMMITTEE... A heartfelt thank you to everyone who has continued to support the church financially. We are blessed to have such a generous church family. At this time our receipts and expenses are within the normal range for this time of year. In addition, the church has applied for and received money on May 1st from the CARES Act Payroll Protection Plan. This money ($112,000) will be used to assist with salaries. It is classified as a loan and all or part may be forgiven. The $112,000 number was based on a calculation of the average adjusted monthly 2019 personnel expenses times a 2 ½ month period. Yes we are truly blessed. - Thank you from Your Finance Committee
MESSAGE FROM DHPC ACCOUNTANT... Thank you for your financial support during these difficult times. DHPC members are encouraged to mail their pledges. The Finance team will be checking the post office box and the physical mailbox while the church office is closed. DHPC does not offer an electronic offering option. This decision was made for two reasons. First, the monthly and per transaction fee to the church would reduce the offering amount. Second, parishioners can elect on-line bill pay through their banking institution at no fee to them or the church. If you would like to set up automatic donations contact your bank. You will need to provide them DHPC's address (P.O. Box 874 Carefree, AZ 85377) your account number and your first and last name. - Bobi Tomlon, Controller, Desert Hills Presbyterian Church, 480-488-3384 Note from Dawne Pender
regarding St. Mary’s Food Bank... The DHPC St. Mary’s Food Bank Volunteers will NOT be meeting on May 28th. We hope to resume this monthly activity in the near future. Stay tuned for upcoming opportunities. Thank you, Dawne Pender (480) 575-9474 / dawne@brianpaulus.com
