* CALL TO WORSHIP (Psalm 99) Leader: People: Leader: People: Leader: People: Leader: People: Leader:

HYMN #435

The Lord reigns. Let the nations tremble. The Lord reigns. Let them praise God’s holy name. The Lord reigns. Let the peoples rejoice in awe and wonder. The Lord reigns. Let them shout in exaltation! Let us pray...

God of Grace, and God of Glory

1. God of grace and God of glory, On Thy people pour Thy pow'r. Crown Thine ancient Church’s story; Bring her bud to glorious flow'r. Grant us wisdom; grant us courage, For the facing of this hour, For the facing of this hour.

3. Cure Thy children’s warring madness; Bend our pride to Thy control. Shame our wanton, selfish gladness, Rich in things and poor in soul. Grant us wisdom; grant us courage, Lest we miss Thy kingdom’s goal, Lest we miss Thy kingdom’s goal.

2. Lo! the hosts of evil round us Scorn the Christ, assail His ways! From the fears that long have bound us, Free our hearts to faith and praise. Grant us wisdom; grant us courage, For the living of these days, For the living of these days.

4. Set our feet on lofty places; Gird our lives that they may be Armored with all Christ-like graces In the fight to set men free. Grant us wisdom; grant us courage That we fail not man nor Thee, That we fail not man nor Thee.

*AFFIRMATION OF FAITH (Apostles’ Creed) I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ His only Son our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; He descended into hell; the third day He rose again from the dead; He ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence He shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen.

*GLORY BE TO THE FATHER #813 Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost, As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, world without end. Amen, amen. PRAYER OF CONFESSION O God, we call to you and name you as eternal, ever-present, and boundless in love and glory. Yet there are times when we fail to recognize you in our lives and display your glory on our faces. We sleepwalk through life, ignoring the needs of people all around us and worrying about our own desires. Forgive us: when we shut out the call to climb into your presence; when we make excuses to put off that journey; and when we choose to live with veiled faces and veiled lives. Holy God, remind us again of your presence near us and in us. For we ask this in Jesus’ Name. Amen. ASSURANCE Leader: All:

2 Corinthians 5:17 If anyone is in Christ, they are a new creation; the old has passed away. Behold, the new has come. Therefore, let us assure one another of God’s pardon. In Jesus Christ, we are forgiven. Amen.

ANTHEM

Unveil Thy Beauties to My Sight Chancel Choir

Thou lovely source of true delight, Whom I unseen adore; Unveil Thy beauties to my sight, That I may love Thee more. Thy glory o’er creation shines; But in Thy sacred Word, I read in fairer, brighter lines, My dear redeeming Lord.

Anne Steele

Jesus, my Lord, my life, my light, O come with blissful ray; Break radiant through the shades of night, And chase my fears away. Then shall my soul with rapture trace The wonders of Thy love; But the full glories of Thy face Are only known above.

‘Tis here I bring my wounded soul, And here I bend my knee, ‘Tis here I taste the burning coal To gaze upon the tree. Where-e’er my feet do carry me, What-e’er my hands shall do, Lord, open Thou Thine eyes to see, My love for Thee is true. Amen. PRAYER OF ILLUMINATION Spirit of God, speak once again through the Words of Scripture that our listening ears may hear Your voice. Help us to place Your Word in our minds, treasure it in our hearts, choose it with our wills, and live it through our bodies. In Christ’s name we pray. Amen.

SCRIPTURE

Exodus 34:29-35

When Moses came down from Mount Sinai with the two tablets of the covenant law in his hands, he was not aware that his face was radiant because he had spoken with the Lord. When Aaron and all the Israelites saw Moses, his face was radiant, and they were afraid to come near him. But Moses called to them; so Aaron and all the leaders of the community came back to him, and he spoke to them. Afterward all the Israelites came near him, and he gave them all the commands the Lord had given him on Mount Sinai. When Moses finished speaking to them, he put a veil over his face. But whenever he entered the Lord’s presence to speak with him, he removed the veil until he came out. And when he came out and told the Israelites what he had been commanded, they saw that his face was radiant. Then Moses would put the veil back over his face until he went in to speak with the Lord. Leader: This is the word of the Lord. All: Thanks be to God! PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE THE LORD’S PRAYER Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever. Amen. *HYMN #564

Just a Closer Walk with Thee

1. I am weak but Thou art strong; Jesus, keep me from all wrong. I'll be satisfied as long As I walk, let me walk close to Thee. Refrain: Just a closer walk with Thee, Grant it, Jesus, is my plea. Daily walking close to Thee, Let it be, dear Lord, let it be.

2. Thro' this world of toil and snares, If I falter, Lord, who cares? Who with me my burden shares? None but Thee, dear Lord, none but Thee. Refrain 3. When my feeble life is o'er, Time for me will be no more; Guide me gently, safely o'er To Thy kingdom shore, to Thy shore. Refrain

SCRIPTURE

II Corinthians 3 :7-18

Now if the ministry that brought death, which was engraved in letters on stone, came with glory, so that the Israelites could not look steadily at the face of Moses because of its glory, transitory though it was, will not the ministry of the Spirit be even more glorious? If the ministry that brought condemnation was glorious, how much more glorious is the ministry that brings righteousness! For what was glorious has no glory now in comparison with the surpassing glory. And if what was transitory came with glory, how much greater is the glory of that which lasts! Therefore, since we have such a hope, we are very bold. We are not like Moses, who would put a veil over his face to prevent the Israelites from seeing the end of what was passing away. But their minds were made dull, for to this day the same veil remains when the old covenant is read. It has not been removed, because only in Christ is it taken away. Even to this day when Moses is read, a veil covers their hearts. But whenever anyone turns to the Lord, the veil is taken away. Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. And we all, who with unveiled faces contemplate the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into his image with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit. SERMON

*HYMN #431

Shine, Jesus, Shine

Rev. Brett Everett Kendrick

1. Lord, the light of Your love is shining, In the midst of the darkness shining; Jesus, Light of the world, shine upon us, Set us free by the truth You now bring us; Shine on me, Shine on me.

2. Lord, I come to Your awesome presence, From the shadows into Your radiance; By the blood I may enter Your brightness; Search me, try me, consume all my darkness; Shine on me, Shine on me. Chorus

Chorus: Shine Jesus, shine, Fill this land with the Father’s glory. Blaze, Spirit, blaze, set our hearts on fire. Flow, river, flow, Flood the nations with grace and mercy. Send forth Your Word, Lord, and let there be light.

3. As we gaze on Your kingly brightness So our faces display Your likeness, Ever changing from glory to glory; Mirrored here, may our lives tell Your story; Shine on me, Shine on me. Chorus

*BENEDICTION & RESPONSE

MARCH WISH LIST Jelly, Cream Soup, Pasta Sides, Bottled Juice, Sugar(smaller sizes please), Canned Fruit, Canned Tuna & Chicken

8/9:30 AM Service: Just a Closer Walk with Thee No one knows when or where this song was written, but it became popular in the 1930s and 1940s in the South among African Americans, and spread from there. This song has three stanzas and a refrain. It is rather unique in that the refrain uses the same music as the verses. The tune's origins, like those of the text, are anonymous. CLOSER WALK is named for the text with which it has always been paired. This song is often performed in concert rather than sung by congregations in worship, but it may have congregational origins (Paul Westermeyer, Hymnal Companion to Evangelical Lutheran Worship, p. 553). In this song, we acknowledge our human inability to live righteously, but we also express awareness of the grace and strength that God gives us in our daily walk. It reflects Paul’s assertion in 2 Corinthians 12:10 “That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.”

11:00 AM Service: I’ll Have a New Life FUN FACT: The author of the words to the men’s quartet piece, I’ll Have a New Life, also wrote the lyrics to When the Saints Go Marching In.
