Adversity is a condition of suffering and hardship involving anguish, pressure, trials, heartaches, or disappointments. It may be physical or emotional in nature, and either long or short in duration, but it always causes pain. Although none of us want hurt or trouble, if it comes, we have two options. We can waste our sorrows or grow in our relationship with the Lord. Spiritual growth in adversity depends on several factors; one of which is to equip us to comfort others. That is where your Walking Beside ministers can make a difference -- meeting your need by providing care, compassion, community, and a listening ear. Give us a call.

REACH OUT! We are so glad you (yes, you) are here with us at DHPC... and we want you to be excited about inviting others! One of the first steps to evangelism is to invite people onto our campus and welcome them once they are here. DHPC has a number of events that are attractive to our community. Inviting friends to DHPC is every member's responsibility, and welcoming them is a privilege.

Who might YOU invite to Adult Education Classes? We are ALL ministers of outreach. Let's love this community together!

Announcing the Winter 2021 Class Line Up For Adults (Classes are hybrid and may be taken in-person or via Zoom.) “FOR GOD SO LOVED…” [The Greatest Love Story Ever Told] An expansive study of God’s love as seen from eternity past to eternity future Instructor: Lew Dymond

“MAKERS” [Living Out Your Purpose] An expansive study of being a disciple first and then making disciples for Jesus. Instructor: Bill Billard

Synopsis: The title of the study will immediately bring to mind John 3:16, "For God so loved the world that he gave his only (begotten) Son, that whoever believes in(to) him shall not perish but have eternal life." But this study is a more expansive study of God's love as seen from eternity past to eternity future. The most comprehensive definition of God’s love is contained in 1 John 4:8 and 16. "God is Love."

Synopsis: Discipleship is at the very heart of the ministry of Jesus. It should be at the heart of the life of the Christian as well! This series has been designed for those that are wanting to fulfill God’s plan for their lives of being Disciples of Jesus, and making Disciples of Jesus.

The study includes 8 stand-alone lessons: The Trinity The Unseen Realm The creation of the Heavens & the Earth The rise & fall of man (Eden, Tower of Babel & the Flood) God's portion (the Nation of Israel) The Savior (Redemption & Reconciliation) Fruit happens (abiding in Christ and Him in us) The Other Side of the Wall (for Christians, death is a “comma”, not a “period”) Class Time: 9:45am - 10:45am Class Dates: 8 consecutive Sundays beginning January 31 Location: Room 104 (Adult Classroom Wing) or via “ZOOM”

The video-driven study includes 5 lessons: Made: What is our purpose in life knowing we are made in God’s image? Made to Make: We are called to go & create, but what? Move: We are molded & shaped for a reason, but how do we move in the right direction? Go Therefore: How can we make time to disciple in lives that are already too busy? Go and Make: There are plenty of reasons not to, but what will we miss out on if we don’t go and make? The class will serve to introduce topics presented by speaker Ron Bennett (Navigators) at DHPC’s “Discipleship Rocks!” seminar on March 5-6. Class Time: 11:10am - 12:10pm Class Dates: 5 consecutive Sundays beginning January 31 Location: Room 104 (Adult Classroom Wing) or via “ZOOM”

Register for classes at REGISTER@DESERTHILLS.ORGpage 4

Judson W. Van De Venter was a painter turned evangelist who wrote I Surrender All in 1896. He said that it was written “in memory of the time when, after a long struggle, I had surrendered and dedicated my life to active Christian service.” Winfield S. Weeden was the musician who worked with Van De Venter in his evangelistic meetings. He wrote the tune SURRENDER for this text in 1896. Text and tune were first published together that same year. You may recall from last week that Holy, Holy, Holy—our first hymn this morning—also had a tune that was written for the specific text. Jim’s sermon last week dealt with conflict. In a conflict, the object is to win; defeat or surrender means failure. Nevertheless, Christ calls His followers to totally surrender themselves to Him.

DARE TO BE NEW!! Sunday School Volunteers needed! Jesus said, "Let the little children come unto Me for such is the Kingdom of Heaven!"

The congregation of DHPC has a wonderful opportunity to help fulfill the words of Jesus! We are about to adventure into "Orange", a Church School program which Chris Haidet, Family & Student Director, has found to be most effective, as well as enjoyable, for kids from two years old through high school. We have some teachers on board, but we certainly need more. The program works well with volunteers to help with check-in and to assist the teachers, etc. THIS MEANS YOU!! Please consider joining us in a beautiful adventure to watch the children come to know and love Jesus! If interested, please call Susan Constance (480) 627-9613.
