11:10 AM Service February 7, 2021 MORE PEOPLE, MORE LIKE CHRIST

When the Sabbath was over, Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James, and Salome bought spices so that they might go to anoint Jesus’ body. Very early on the first day of the week, just after sunrise, they were on their way to the tomb and they asked each other, “Who will roll the stone away from the entrance of the tomb?” But when they looked up, they saw that the stone, which was very large, had been rolled away. -Mark 16:1-4

Jesus called us in The Great Commission to “Go, therefore, and make disciples…” This introductory study will teach you what it takes to be a disciple – More Like Christ - and then to make disciples for Jesus. Instructor: Bill Billard

Synopsis: There is a movement in evangelical churches to build disciples through relationship -oriented Micro-Groups of two-to-four. The Adult Discipleship Committee has been experimenting with this concept, with very good results. We are very excited to get others involved in this journey. The “Makers” curriculum shows why you should become a disciple/ disciple-maker, and how God has equipped you to do so. It also gives you encouragement as to how to get started. This class will use the “Makers” curriculum as a framework to introduce Micro-Groups and some resources that can be used to guide you through the disciplemaking process. The video-driven study includes 5 lessons:

1. 2. 3. 4. 5.

Made: What is our purpose, knowing that we were made in God’s image? Made to Make: Just what is a disciple? Move: Do I have what it takes? Go Therefore: What if I’m too busy? Go and Make: Step out in faith.

The class will serve as a lead-in to introduce topics that will be presented by Ron Bennett (Navigators), who will speak at DHPC’s “Discipleship Rocks” seminar on March 5-6. Class Time: Class Dates: Location:

11:10am - 12:10pm 5 consecutive Sundays beginning January 31 Room 109 (Adult Classroom Wing) or via “ZOOM”

I Love to Tell the Story One “critique” of this hymn is that, while it describes how wonderful it is to tell the story, it never actually tells the story! Katherine Hankey is the author of the text. It is taken from a very long poem in two parts about the story of Christ that she wrote while recovering from a serious illness in 1866. The first part is titled “The Story Wanted,” while the second part is “The Story Told.” So the entire poem does tell the story—in great detail—but the hymn text itself refers to the great joy the story has given and the importance of telling it to others. If you would like to read the entire poem, you can find it here: https://www.wholesomewords.org/ poetry/oldstory.html page 6

Weekly reservations are still required to attend. In addition, The Session is continuing its policy that masks or face shields are required for everyone who attends worship with the exception of children age five and under (who must remain with guardians at all times). A mask or face shield must be worn when you are entering the building, during the worship service and the entire time you are on the church campus (bring one from home or one will be provided). For those who are unable to wear a mask or face shield due to medical reasons, The Session feels that you are safer at home.
