ARE YOU IN NEED OF PRAYER? DO YOU HAVE A JOY TO SHARE? Please submit your prayer request online at deserthills.org. Adversity is a condition of suffering and hardship involving anguish, pressure, trials, heartaches, or disappointments. It may be physical or emotional in nature, and either long or short in duration, but it always causes pain. Although none of us want hurt or trouble, if it comes, we have two options. We can waste our sorrows or grow in our relationship with the Lord. Spiritual growth in adversity depends on several factors; one of which is to equip us to comfort others. That is where your Walking Beside ministers can make a difference -- meeting your need by providing care, compassion, community, and a listening ear. Give us a call.

O Come, O Come, Emmanuel…

2021 CONTRIBUTION ENVELOPES Now available for pick-up in the narthex.

is an ancient advent hymn that originated in part from the “Great ‘O’ Antiphons,” part of the medieval Advent liturgy. On each day of the week leading up to Christmas, one responsive verse would be chanted, each including a different Old Testament name for the coming Messiah. When we sing each verse of this hymn, we acknowledge Christ as the fulfillment of these Old Testament prophesies. We sing this hymn in an already-but not yet-kingdom of God. Christ's first coming gives us a reason to rejoice again and again, yet we know that all is not well with the world. So along with our rejoicing, we plead using the words of this hymn that Christ would come again to perfectly fulfill the promise that all darkness will be turned to light. We will sing one verse each week of Advent, along with the contemporary song Emmanuel.

DID YOU EVER WONDER? Did you ever wonder about the traditional ornaments adorning our sanctuary Christmas tree? They are called CHRISMONS and are Christmas decorations using Christian symbols. The word chrismon is a combination of the word Christ and monogram-- Christ's monogram! They help Christians remember that Christmas is the celebration of Jesus's birthday. Some of the meanings of our DHPC Christmas tree: ✴ Evergreen tree - the symbol for eternal life ✴ Lights - remind us that Christ is the light of the world

✴ Gold - the color gold is a symbol of majesty and glory ✴ White - the color white is a symbol of purity & perfection ✴ The Triumphant Cross - represents the earth with the cross on top. It symbolizes Jesus is triumphant over anything we can face in the world. ✴ Chi-Rho - looks like a P with an X on top. These are the first 2 letters of Christ in Greek. ✴ Fish - an early symbol of Christians. Some of Jesus' disciples were fishermen.

✴ Latin Cross - a symbol of Jesus representing the kind of Cross on which he died, the emptiness reminds of his resurrection. ✴ Triangle - represents the three persons of the Trinity, the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

Weekly reservations are still required to attend. In addition, The Session is continuing its policy that masks or face shields are required for everyone who attends worship with the exception of children age five and under (who must remain with guardians at all times). A mask or face shield must be worn when you are entering the building, during the worship service and the entire time you are on the church campus (bring one from home or one will be provided). For those who are unable to wear a mask or face shield due to medical reasons, The Session feels that you are safer at home.
