Adversity is a condition of suffering and hardship involving anguish, pressure, trials, heartaches, or disappointments. It may be physical or emotional in nature, and either long or short in duration, but it always causes pain. Although none of us want hurt or trouble, if it comes, we have two options. We can waste our sorrows or grow in our relationship with the Lord. Spiritual growth in adversity depends on several factors; one of which is to equip us to comfort others. That is where your Walking Beside ministers can make a difference -- meeting your need by providing care, compassion, community, and a listening ear. Give us a call.

CONGREGATIONAL MEETING TODAY Sunday, December 13, 2020, 9:15am, in the sanctuary The purpose of the meeting is to elect Joe Gilleland as elder for Buildings & Grounds.

TECHNOLOGY UPDATE The new cameras and equipment were installed this week and we hope to be up and running for this Sunday’s live stream. It is a true blessing for our church. This essential technology upgrade of our DHPC campus is in memory of Dr. Jeff Keller, son of Rolene Dinsdale and stepson of John Dinsdale. Many thanks again to the family’s generosity.

SALVATION ARMY Jim Shaw, DHPC member and long-time supporter of the Salvation Army Bell Ringers wishes to inform all that due to COVID-19, the Salvation Army has chosen to refrain from setting up bell ringing at the locations we normally staff. If you’re interested in being a bell ringer in another location, please check-out the website: https://volunteer.usawest.org. Anyone wanting to make donations, may do so directly to the Salvation Army or through the church for Salvation Army (please write Salvation Army in your check memo line).

O Come, O Come, Emmanuel… DHPC presents its new website for Youth Grades 6-12...

hangoutnation.com A great place for youth to check out upcoming events, blogs, and other teen-related links. Questions? Contact...Chris Haidet, Director of Family & Student Ministries chaidet@deserthills.org / 480.329.7097

is an ancient advent hymn that originated in part from the “Great ‘O’ Antiphons,” part of the medieval Advent liturgy. On each day of the week leading up to Christmas, one responsive verse would be chanted, each including a different Old Testament name for the coming Messiah. When we sing each verse of this hymn, we acknowledge Christ as the fulfillment of these Old Testament prophesies. We sing this hymn in an already-but not yet-kingdom of God. Christ's first coming gives us a reason to rejoice again and again, yet we know that all is not well with the world. So along with our rejoicing, we plead using the words of this hymn that Christ would come again to perfectly fulfill the promise that all darkness will be turned to light. We will sing one verse each week of Advent, along with the contemporary song Emmanuel.

REACH OUT! We are so glad you (yes, you) are here with us at DHPC... and we want you to be excited about inviting others! One of the first steps to evangelism is to invite people onto our campus and welcome them once they are here. DHPC has a number of events that are attractive to our community. Inviting friends to DHPC is every member's responsibility, and welcoming them is a privilege. Who might YOU invite to the Matt Baird Event? Your student-aged children or grandchildren? And don’t forget to have them invite friends! We are ALL ministers of outreach. Let's love this community together! page 5

Weekly reservations are still required to attend. In addition, The Session is continuing its policy that masks or face shields are required for everyone who attends worship with the exception of children age five and under (who must remain with guardians at all times). A mask or face shield must be worn when you are entering the building, during the worship service and the entire time you are on the church campus (bring one from home or one will be provided). For those who are unable to wear a mask or face shield due to medical reasons, The Session feels that you are safer at home.
