HYMN #278
Angels We Have Heard on High Verses 1 and 3: all Verse 2: choir only
1. Angels we have heard on high, Sweetly singing o’er the plains And the mountains in reply, Echoing their joyous strains. Refrain: Gloria in excelsis Deo, Gloria in excelsis Deo.
Choir only: 2. Shepherds, why this jubilee? Why your joyous strains prolong? Say what may the tidings be Which inspire your heav'nly song? Refrain 3. Come to Bethlehem, and see Him whose birth the angels sing; Come, adore on bended knee Christ the Lord, the new-born King. Refrain
page 2
*AFFIRMATION OF FAITH (Apostles’ Creed) I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ His only Son our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; He descended into hell; the third day He rose again from the dead; He ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence He shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen. * HYMN #243
Emmanuel
Bob McGee
Emmanuel, Emmanuel, His name is called Emmanuel; God with us, revealed in us; His name is called Emmanuel. ADVENT CANDLE LIGHTING HYMN #245, v. 3
O Come, O Come, Emmanuel
Neale
3. O come, Thou Wisdom from on high And order all things, far and nigh; To us the path of knowledge show And cause us in her ways to go. Refrain Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel Shall come to thee, O Israel! PRAYER OF CONFESSION Holy God, during this season of anticipation, we confess that we busy ourselves with many preparations and neglect preparing our hearts for your coming. Our relationships with you and our neighbors are wounded. We have failed to love as you love us. We do not always live in the joy of the Good News of Jesus Christ, whose coming we both celebrate and await. Forgive us, and mend what is broken. Amen. ASSURANCE OF PARDON (John 3:16-17) Leader:
All:
For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have life everlasting. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. Therefore, let us assure one another of God’s pardon: In Jesus Christ, we are forgiven. Thanks be to God.

Refrain: Prepare, prepare the way of the Lord! Prepare the way of the Lord! Make straight a path in the wilderness, a highway for our God! Ev’ry valley shall be lifted up. Ev’ry mountain and hill made low; the uneven ground made level; the rugged places a plain. Refrain When the myst’ry of time is fulfilled, and the glory of God revealed; All people shall see together. O hear the Word of the Lord. Refrain
PRAYER OF ILLUMINATION Spirit of God, speak once again through the Words of Scripture that our listening ears may hear Your voice. Help us to place Your Word in our minds, treasure it in our hearts, choose it with our wills, and live it through our bodies. In Christ’s name we pray. Amen.
SCRIPTURE
Luke 1:39-45
At that time Mary got ready and hurried to a town in the hill country of Judea, where she entered Zechariah’s home and greeted Elizabeth. When Elizabeth heard Mary’s greeting, the baby leaped in her womb, and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit. In a loud voice she exclaimed: “Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the child you will bear! But why am I so favored, that the mother of my Lord should come to me? As soon as the sound of your greeting reached my ears, the baby in my womb leaped for joy. Blessed is she who has believed that the Lord would fulfill his promises to her!” Leader: This is the word of the Lord. All: Thanks be to God!
PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE THE LORD’S PRAYER Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever. Amen.

Away in a Manger
Rev. Jim Noble James R. Murray
1. Away in a manger, no crib for a bed, The little Lord Jesus laid down His sweet head. The stars in the sky looked down where He lay; The little Lord Jesus asleep on the hay. 2. The cattle are lowing, the Baby awakes, But little Lord Jesus - no crying He makes. I love Thee, Lord Jesus; look down from the sky, And stay by my side until morning is nigh. 3. Be near me, Lord Jesus; I ask Thee to stay Close by me forever, and love me, I pray. Bless all the dear children in Thy tender care, And fit us for heaven, to live with Thee there. *BENEDICTION

Adversity is a condition of suffering and hardship involving anguish, pressure, trials, heartaches, or disappointments. It may be physical or emotional in nature, and either long or short in duration, but it always causes pain. Although none of us want hurt or trouble, if it comes, we have two options. We can waste our sorrows or grow in our relationship with the Lord. Spiritual growth in adversity depends on several factors; one of which is to equip us to comfort others. That is where your Walking Beside ministers can make a difference -- meeting your need by providing care, compassion, community, and a listening ear. Give us a call.

TECHNOLOGY UPDATE The new cameras and equipment were installed this week and we hope to be up and running for this Sunday’s live stream. It is a true blessing for our church. This essential technology upgrade of our DHPC campus is in memory of Dr. Jeff Keller, son of Rolene Dinsdale and stepson of John Dinsdale. Many thanks again to the family’s generosity.
SALVATION ARMY Jim Shaw, DHPC member and long-time supporter of the Salvation Army Bell Ringers wishes to inform all that due to COVID-19, the Salvation Army has chosen to refrain from setting up bell ringing at the locations we normally staff. is an ancient advent hymn that originated in part from the “Great ‘O’ Antiphons,” part of the medieval Advent liturgy. On each day of the week leading up to Christmas, one responsive verse would be chanted, each including a different Old Testament name for the coming Messiah. When we sing each verse of this hymn, we acknowledge Christ as the fulfillment of these Old Testament prophesies. We sing this hymn in an already-but not yet-kingdom of God. Christ's first coming gives us a reason to rejoice again and again, yet we know that all is not well with the world. So along with our rejoicing, we plead using the words of this hymn that Christ would come again to perfectly fulfill the promise that all darkness will be turned to light. We will sing one verse each week of Advent, along with the contemporary song Emmanuel.
REACH OUT! We are so glad you (yes, you) are here with us at DHPC... and we want you to be excited about inviting others! One of the first steps to evangelism is to invite people onto our campus and welcome them once they are here. DHPC has a number of events that are attractive to our community. Inviting friends to DHPC is every member's responsibility, and welcoming them is a privilege. Who might YOU invite to the Matt Baird Event? Your student-aged children or grandchildren? And don’t forget to have them invite friends! We are ALL ministers of outreach. Let's love this community together! page 9

Weekly reservations are still required to attend. In addition, The Session is continuing its policy that masks or face shields are required for everyone who attends worship with the exception of children age five and under (who must remain with guardians at all times). A mask or face shield must be worn when you are entering the building, during the worship service and the entire time you are on the church campus (bring one from home or one will be provided). For those who are unable to wear a mask or face shield due to medical reasons, The Session feels that you are safer at home.
