SERVICE FOR THE LORD’S DAY 9:45am, April 19, 2020
*CALL TO WORSHIP Leader: Friends, the tomb is empty! The stone has been rolled away! People: Christ is risen! He is risen, indeed! Leader: For three days he lay in that cold and lonely cave. People: But God’s love cannot be contained by anything, not even death! Leader: Thanks be to God, who gives us victory through our Risen Lord. People: Death has been swallowed up in victory! Leader: Where, O death, is your victory? People: Where, O death, is your sting? Leader: Christ is risen! People: He is risen, indeed! Leader: Come, let us worship the Risen Christ!
1. Rise, O Church, and lift your voices; Christ has conquered death and hell. Sing as all the earth rejoices; Resurrection anthems swell. Come and worship, Come and worship; Worship Christ, the risen King!
2. See the tomb where death had laid Him; Empty now, its mouth declares: “Death and I could not contain Him, For the throne of life He shares.” Come and worship, Come and worship; Worship Christ, the risen King!
3. We acclaim Your life, O Jesus; Now we sing Your victory. Sin and hell may seek to seize us, But Your conquest keeps us free. Stand in triumph, Stand in triumph; Worship Christ, the risen King! *AFFIRMATION
OF FAITH (Apostles’ Creed) I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ His only Son our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; He descended into hell; the third day He rose again from the dead; He ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence He shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen. page 2
*GLORY
BE TO THE FATHER Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost, As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, world without end. Amen, amen.

PRAYER OF CONFESSION Almighty God, you have accepted our Lord's sacrifice for our sins and our salvation. By your power you have raised Jesus from the dead, and he appeared to his disciples before ascending into heaven. We humbly confess that, while we know the story and believe it, it often has made too little difference in our lives. We have not been steadfast in our faith and have often fallen back into old patterns of living. At times we have been silent when we should have spoken of your love for the world and our faith in you. Forgive us, we pray, of these sins. Enable us today to reflect more deeply on the sacred story, that our obedience may be increased, that our service may be more joyful, and our testimony may be more courageous. Hear us in the name of our risen Savior, Jesus Christ. Amen. ASSURANCE OF PARDON (II Corinthians 5:17 ) Leader: If anyone is in Christ, they are a new creature; the old has passed away; behold, the new has come. Therefore, let us assure one another of God's Pardon All: In Jesus Christ, we are forgiven. Amen. PRAYER OF ILLUMINATION Spirit of God, speak once again through the Words of Scripture that our listening ears may hear Your voice. Help us to place Your Word in our minds, treasure it in our hearts, choose it with our wills, and live it through our bodies. In Christ’s name we pray. Amen. SCRIPTURE READING
I Corinthians 15:35-49
35
But someone will ask, “How are the dead raised? With what kind of body will they come?” 36 How foolish! What you sow does not come to life unless it dies. 37 When you sow, you do not plant the body that will be, but just a seed, perhaps of wheat or of something else. 38 But God gives it a body as he has determined, and to each kind of seed he gives its own body. 39 Not all flesh is the same: People have one kind of flesh, animals have another, birds another and fish another. 40 There are also heavenly bodies and there are earthly bodies; but the splendor of the heavenly bodies is one kind, and the splendor of the earthly bodies is another. 41 The sun has one kind of splendor, the moon another and the stars another; and star differs from star in splendor. 42 So will it be with the resurrection of the dead. The body that is sown is perishable, it is raised imperishable; 43 it is sown in dishonor, it is raised in glory; it is sown in weakness, it is raised in power; 44 it is sown a natural body, it is raised a spiritual body. If there is a natural body, there is also a spiritual body. 45 So it is written: “The first man Adam became a living being”; the last Adam, a life-giving spirit. 46 The spiritual did not come first, but the natural, and after that the spiritual. 47 The first man was of the dust of the earth; the second man is of heaven. 48 As was the earthly man, so are those who are of the earth; and as is the heavenly man, so also are those who are of heaven. 49 And just as we have borne the image of the earthly man, so shall we bear the image of the heavenly man. Leader: This is the word of the Lord. All: Thanks be to God!

SCRIPTURE READING I Corinthians 15:50-58 50 I declare to you, brothers and sisters, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God, nor does the perishable inherit the imperishable. 51 Listen, I tell you a mystery: We will not all sleep, but we will all be changed— 52 in a flash, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed. 53 For the perishable must clothe itself with the imperishable, and the mortal with immortality. 54 When the perishable has been clothed with the imperishable, and the mortal with immortality, then the saying that is written will come true: “Death has been swallowed up in victory.” 55 “Where, O death, is your victory? Where, O death, is your sting?” 56 The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. 57 But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. 58 Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain. SERMON
“BE STEADFAST, IMMOVABLE, AND ABOUNDING!”

Abide with Me
Rev. Jim Noble #642
1. Abide with me; fast falls the eventide. The darkness deepens; Lord, with me abide. When other helpers fail and comforts flee, Help of the helpless, O abide with me.
3. I fear no foe, with Thee at hand to bless; Ills have no weight, and tears no bitterness.. Where is death’s sting? Where, grave, thy victory? I triumph still if Thou abide with me.
2. I need Thy presence every passing hour. What but Thy grace can foil the tempter’s pow’r? Who, like Thyself, my Guide and Stay can be? Thro’ cloud and sunshine, O abide with me.
4. Hold Thou Thy cross before my closing eyes; Shine thro’ the gloom and point me to the skies. Heav’n’s morning breaks, and earth’s vain shadows flee. In life and death, O Lord, abide with me.

MESSAGE FROM FINANCE COMMITTEE... As you may have expected, the church continues to need your financial support in these trying times. Presently we are not holding services on campus and we anticipate a deficit in much needed and projected non-pledge offering in April and maybe beyond. If possible, please consider continuing your financial support on a regular basis. - Thank you from Your Finance Committee
MESSAGE FROM DHPC ACCOUNTANT... Thank you for your financial support during these difficult times. DHPC members are encouraged to mail their pledges. The Finance team will be checking the post office box and the physical mailbox while the church office is closed. DHPC does not offer an electronic offering option. This decision was made for two reasons. First, the monthly and per transaction fee to the church would reduce the offering amount. Second, parishioners can elect on-line bill pay through their banking institution at no fee to them or the church. If you would like to set up automatic donations contact your bank. You will need to provide them DHPC's address (P.O. Box 874 Carefree, AZ 85377) your account number and your first and last name. Bobi Tomlon, Controller Desert Hills Presbyterian Church 480-488-3384
