SERVICE FOR THE LORD’S DAY Sunday, April 25, 2021, 11:00AM
PRELUDE
Hymn Medley
* CALL TO WORSHIP Leader: People: Leader: People: Leader: People:
Welcome to the community of faith, the family of God! We come as families, large and small in number, seeking God’s love. God’s love is here for you. Help us to understand how we are connected to God. We abide in Christ Jesus, in love and compassion. May our spirits be renewed and our connection to God be strengthened through our worship today.
HYMN #63, vs. 1,2,3,5
All Creatures of Our God and King
1. All creatures of our God and King, Lift up your voice and with us sing, Alleluia! Alleluia! Thou burning sun with golden beam, Thou silver moon with softer gleam, O praise Him! O praise Him! Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia!
3. Thou flowing water, pure and clear, Make music for Thy Lord to hear, Alleluia! Alleluia! Thou fire so masterful and bright, Thou givest man both warmth and light, O praise Him! O praise Him! Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia!
2. Thou rushing wind that art so strong, Ye clouds that sail in heaven along, O praise Him! Alleluia! Thou rising morn, in praise rejoice; Ye lights of evening, find a voice, O praise Him! O praise Him! Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia!
5. Let all things their Creator bless, And worship Him in humbleness, O praise Him! Alleluia! Praise, praise the Father, praise the Son, And praise the Spirit, Three in One, O praise Him! O praise Him! Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia!
*AFFIRMATION OF FAITH (Apostles’ Creed) I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ His only Son our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; He descended into hell; the third day He rose again from the dead; He ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence He shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen. page 3
*GLORY BE TO THE FATHER #813 Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost, As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, world without end. Amen, amen. PRAYER OF CONFESSION O Lord, in calling himself the true vine, Jesus reminded us that the source of our life stems from being grafted into him… And that what we think, do, and say reflects our anchoring in the Christ vine. Father, we confess before you our failures to remain in the "true vine." Forgive us for the times when we have chosen the gnarled and knotted existence of anger, alienation, and bitterness, or twisted your Word of Truth into words of self-preservation and selfinterest. Prune us O God and remove this bitter direction from our lives. In your forgiving love, heal our tendency to strike out on our own, thinking that we have all the answers. Help us to exhibit new growth and strength of character, that we may faithfully serve and bear much fruit for you. In Jesus’ name. AMEN. ASSURANCE Leader: All:
2 Corinthians 5:17 If anyone is in Christ, they are a new creation; the old has passed away. Behold, the new has come. Therefore, let us assure one another of God’s pardon. In Jesus Christ, we are forgiven. Amen.
ANTHEM 1)Time measured out my days Life carried me along In my soul I yearned to follow God But knew I'd never be so strong I looked hard at this world To learn how heaven could be gained Just to end where I began Where human effort is all in vain
PRAYER OF ILLUMINATION
Were It Not For Grace Refrain: Were it not for grace I can tell you where I'd be Wand'ring down Some pointless road to nowhere With my salvation up to me (And) I know how that would go The battles I would face Forever running But losing the race Were it not for grace
Hamilton/McHugh 2)So here is all my praise Expressed with all my heart Offered to a Friend who took my place And ran a course I could not start And when He saw in full Just how much His love would cost He still went the final mile Between me and heaven So I would not be lost Refrain

SCRIPTURE
Romans 11:1-12
I ask then: Did God reject his people? By no means! I am an Israelite myself, a descendant of Abraham, from the tribe of Benjamin. God did not reject his people, whom he foreknew. Don’t you know what Scripture says in the passage about Elijah—how he appealed to God against Israel: “Lord, they have killed your prophets and torn down your altars; I am the only one left, and they are trying to kill me”? And what was God’s answer to him? “I have reserved for myself seven thousand who have not bowed the knee to Baal.” So too, at the present time there is a remnant chosen by grace. And if by grace, then it cannot be based on works; if it were, grace would no longer be grace. What then? What the people of Israel sought so earnestly they did not obtain. The elect among them did, but the others were hardened, as it is written: “God gave them a spirit of stupor, eyes that could not see and ears that could not hear, to this very day.” And David says: “May their table become a snare and a trap, a stumbling block and a retribution for them. May their eyes be darkened so they cannot see, and their backs be bent forever.” Again I ask: Did they stumble so as to fall beyond recovery? Not at all! Rather, because of their transgression, salvation has come to the Gentiles to make Israel envious. But if their transgression means riches for the world, and their loss means riches for the Gentiles, how much greater riches will their full inclusion bring! Leader: This is the word of the Lord. All: Thanks be to God! PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE THE LORD’S PRAYER Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever. Amen. *HYMN

3. For my life He bled and died Christ will hold me fast Justice has been satisfied He will hold me fast Raised with Him to endless life He will hold me fast Till our faith is turned to sight When He comes at last Refrain CCLI Song # 7016161 Ada Ruth Habershon | Matthew Merker © 2013 Getty Music Publishing (Admin. by Music Services, Inc.) *PRAYER OF DEDICATION SCRIPTURE Romans 11:13-24 I am talking to you Gentiles. Inasmuch as I am the apostle to the Gentiles, I take pride in my ministry in the hope that I may somehow arouse my own people to envy and save some of them. For if their rejection brought reconciliation to the world, what will their acceptance be but life from the dead? If the part of the dough offered as firstfruits is holy, then the whole batch is holy; if the root is holy, so are the branches. If some of the branches have been broken off, and you, though a wild olive shoot, have been grafted in among the others and now share in the nourishing sap from the olive root, do not consider yourself to be superior to those other branches. If you do, consider this: You do not support the root, but the root supports you. You will say then, “Branches were broken off so that I could be grafted in.” Granted. But they were broken off because of unbelief, and you stand by faith. Do not be arrogant, but tremble. For if God did not spare the natural branches, he will not spare you either. Consider therefore the kindness and sternness of God: sternness to those who fell, but kindness to you, provided that you continue in his kindness. Otherwise, you also will be cut off. And if they do not persist in unbelief, they will be grafted in, for God is able to graft them in again. After all, if you were cut out of an olive tree that is wild by nature, and contrary to nature were grafted into a cultivated olive tree, how much more readily will these, the natural branches, be grafted into their own olive tree!
SERMON
“DARE TO BE NEW: YOU ARE GRAFTED”
*HYMN #139
Rev. Jim Noble
Great Is Thy Faithfulness
1. Great is Thy faithfulness, O God, my Father; There is no shadow of turning with Thee. Thou changest not; Thy compassions they fail not. As Thou has been, Thou forever wilt be.
2. Summer and winter, and springtime and harvest, Sun, moon, and stars in their courses above, Join with all nature in manifold witness To Thy great faithfulness, mercy and love. Refrain
Refrain: Great is Thy faithfulness! Great is Thy faithfulness! Morning by morning new mercies I see; All I have needed thy hand hath provided. Great is Thy faithfulness, Lord unto me!
3. Pardon for sin and an peace that endureth, Thy own dear presence to cheer and to guide. Strength for today and bright hope for tomorrow — Blessings all mine with ten thousand beside! Refrain

Women's Bible Studies Gideon Beginning Thursday, April 22, 10:00 AM via Zoom for the first class Gideon: Your weakness. God’s strength. is a 7 session women's Bible study by Priscilla Shirer. When we hear the name Gideon, most of us think about his 300 soldiers or the fleece he laid out under the evening sky. But Gideon’s story is so much bigger than that—bigger than any one man and his mark on Israel’s history. Like everything else in the Bible, this is a story about God and His people. His love for them, as well as His strength operating in spite of their weakness—even through their weakness.
Armor of God Beginning Monday, April 26, 6:30 PM via Zoom All day, every day, an invisible war rages around you. A cunning, devilish enemy seeks to wreak havoc on everything that matters to you - your emotions, your mind, your family, your future. But...when the enemy meets a woman dressed for the occasion, he fails miserably. Join Priscilla Shirer in a 7-session Bible study that will challenge you to suit up, stand firm, and secure victory in your life. Books may be purchased on Amazon or at Lifeway Christian Books. Please contact Kathleen Harris to register for either of these classes. 602-741-3429 / kharris@deserthills.org
