PRELUDE

* CALL TO WORSHIP Leader: People: Leader: People: Leader: People: Leader:
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who chose us in Christ before the foundation of the world, who destined us for adoption as his children through Jesus Christ, who has forgiven our sins according to the riches of his grace, and has made known to us the mystery of his will. This is our God! Let’s worship the Lord together.
HYMN #401
The Church’s One Foundation
1. The Church’s one foundation Is Jesus Christ, her Lord; She is His new creation By water and the Word: From heav'n He came and sought her To be His holy bride; With His own blood He bought her And for her life He died.
3. 'Mid toil and tribulation And tumult of her war, She waits the consummation Of peace forevermore; Till with the vision glorious Her longing eyes are blest, And the great Church victorious Shall be the Church at rest.
2. Elect from every nation, Yet one o’er all the earth, Her charter of salvation: One Lord, one faith, one birth; One holy name she blesses, Partakes one holy food; And to one hope she presses, With every grace endued.
4. Yet she on earth has union With God, the Three in One, And mystic, sweet communion With those whose rest is won; O happy ones and holy! Lord, give us grace that we Like them, the meek and lowly, On high may dwell with Thee.
*AFFIRMATION OF FAITH (Apostles’ Creed) I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ His only Son our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; He descended into hell; the third day He rose again from the dead; He ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence He shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen. page 3
*GLORY BE TO THE FATHER #813 Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost, As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, world without end. Amen, amen. PRAYER OF CONFESSION Gracious Eternal God, we are very much aware that the treasure we possess is in earthen vessels. And like clay pots, we are often not beautiful to look upon with our rough edges and gaping cracks. Yet, though your treasure is fit for containers of gold and silver, by your mysterious grace, you have, sinful as we are, deposited in us your Holy Spirit, and entrusted to us the precious treasure of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Renew us and restore us, O God, through your indwelling Spirit. And grant us grace to be faithful disciples; for the sake of Christ our Lord. Amen. ASSURANCE Leader: All:
2 Corinthians 5:17 If anyone is in Christ, they are a new creation; the old has passed away. Behold, the new has come. Therefore, let us assure one another of God’s pardon. In Jesus Christ, we are forgiven. Amen.
ANTHEM
Adopted Chancel Choir
Fanny Crosby
1. O what a blessing, how can I express it? Out of the fullness of rapture I sing, Now by the Father received and adopted, I am a child and an heir of a king. Refrain: I am adopted, O wonderful love, Heir to a heritage purchased above; Tell it, my soul, and joyfully sing, I am a child and an heir of a king. 2. O what a Father, how tenderly gracious, O what a Savior to make me His care; Tho’ I have slighted, rejected, and grieved Him, Still He permits me His kingdom to share. Refrain PRAYER OF ILLUMINATION Spirit of God, speak once again through the Words of Scripture that our listening ears may hear Your voice. Help us to place Your Word in our minds, treasure it in our hearts, choose it with our wills, and live it through our bodies. In Christ’s name we pray. Amen.

SCRIPTURE
Romans 8:9-17
You, however, are not in the realm of the flesh but are in the realm of the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God lives in you. And if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, they do not belong to Christ. But if Christ is in you, then even though your body is subject to death because of sin, the Spirit gives life because of righteousness. And if the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, he who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies because of his Spirit who lives in you. Therefore, brothers and sisters, we have an obligation—but it is not to the flesh, to live according to it. For if you live according to the flesh, you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the misdeeds of the body, you will live. For those who are led by the Spirit of God are the children of God. The Spirit you received does not make you slaves, so that you live in fear again; rather, the Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship. And by him we cry, “Abba, Father.” The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children. Now if we are children, then we are heirs—heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in his sufferings in order that we may also share in his glory. Leader: This is the word of the Lord. All: Thanks be to God! PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE THE LORD’S PRAYER Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever. Amen. *HYMN #93
God, Our Father, We Adore Thee
1. God, our Father, we adore Thee! We, Thy children, bless Thy Name! Chosen in the Christ before Thee, We are "holy, without blame." We adore Thee! we adore Thee! Abba's praises we proclaim! We adore Thee! we adore Thee! Abba's praises we proclaim!
vs. 1-3
2. Son Eternal, we adore Thee! Lamb upon the throne on high! Lamb of God, we bow before Thee, Thou hast bro't Thy people nigh! We adore Thee! we adore Thee! Son of God, who came to die! We adore Thee! we adore Thee! Son of God, who came to die!
3. Holy Spirit, we adore Thee! Paraclete and heav'nly guest! Sent from God and from the Savior, Thou hast led us into rest. We adore Thee! we adore Thee! By Thy grace forever blest; We adore Thee! we adore Thee! By Thy grace forever blest! OFFERINGS OF THE PEOPLE OFFERTORY

DOXOLOGY #815
OLD HUNDREDTH
Praise God from whom all blessings flow. Praise Him, all creatures here below. Praise Him above, ye heav’nly host. Praise Father, Son and Holy Ghost. Amen *PRAYER OF DEDICATION SCRIPTURE Ephesians 1:1-14 Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus by the will of God, To God’s holy people in Ephesus, the faithful in Christ Jesus: Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ. For he chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight. In love he predestined us for adoption to sonship through Jesus Christ, in accordance with his pleasure and will— to the praise of his glorious grace, which he has freely given us in the One he loves. In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God’s grace that he lavished on us. With all wisdom and understanding, he made known to us the mystery of his will according to his good pleasure, which he purposed in Christ, to be put into effect when the times reach their fulfillment—to bring unity to all things in heaven and on earth under Christ. In him we were also chosen, having been predestined according to the plan of him who works out everything in conformity with the purpose of his will, in order that we, who were the first to put our hope in Christ, might be for the praise of his glory. And you also were included in Christ when you heard the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation. When you believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God’s possession—to the praise of his glory. SERMON
“DARE TO BE NEW: YOU ARE ADOPTED”
*HYMN #450

Refrain 2. Led on their way by this triumphant sign, The hosts of God in conqu'ring ranks combine. Refrain
*BENEDICTION & RESPONSE
Rev. Jim Noble
3. O Lord, once lifted on the glorious tree, As Thou hast promised, draw men unto Thee. Refrain 4. Set up Thy throne, and earth's despair may cease Beneath the shadow of its healing peace. Refrain 5. For Thy blest cross which doth for all atone, Creation's praises rise before Thy throne. Refrain

Women's Bible Studies Gideon Beginning Thursday, April 22, 10:00 AM via Zoom for the first class Gideon: Your weakness. God’s strength. is a 7 session women's Bible study by Priscilla Shirer. When we hear the name Gideon, most of us think about his 300 soldiers or the fleece he laid out under the evening sky. But Gideon’s story is so much bigger than that—bigger than any one man and his mark on Israel’s history. Like everything else in the Bible, this is a story about God and His people. His love for them, as well as His strength operating in spite of their weakness—even through their weakness.
Armor of God Beginning Monday, April 26, 6:30 PM via Zoom All day, every day, an invisible war rages around you. A cunning, devilish enemy seeks to wreak havoc on everything that matters to you - your emotions, your mind, your family, your future. But...when the enemy meets a woman dressed for the occasion, he fails miserably. Join Priscilla Shirer in a 7-session Bible study that will challenge you to suit up, stand firm, and secure victory in your life. Books may be purchased on Amazon or at Lifeway Christian Books. Please contact Kathleen Harris to register for either of these classes. 602-741-3429 / kharris@deserthills.org
