*AFFIRMATION OF FAITH (Apostles’ Creed)

I believe in God the FatherAlmighty, Maker of heaven and earth,

And in Jesus Christ,His only Son,our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of theVirgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; He descended into hell; the third day He rose again from the dead; He ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the FatherAlmighty; from thence He shall come to judge the quick and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Ghost, The holy catholic church, The communion of saints, The forgiveness of sins, The resurrection of the body, And the life everlasting. Amen.

Leader: It is God who makes us stand firm in Christ. He anointed us,set his seal of ownership on us, and put his Spirit in our hearts as a deposit, guaranteeing what is to come. Therefore, let us assure one another of God’s pardon.

All: In Jesus Christ,we are forgiven. Thanks be to God.

God of compassion,in Jesus Christ we behold your transforming light, yet we continue to live in darkness. Preoccupied with ourselves,we fail to see your work in the world. We speak when we should listen,we act when we should reflect. Empower us to live in your light and to walk in your ways, for the sake of Him who is the Light of the world,Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. Amen.

*GLORY BETOTHE FATHER #813

Who pardons my iniquities, Who heals me from within? Who lifts my fallen life And sets me on my feet again? Who leads me like a shepherd When I’ve gone astray? My Lord,my God,my Jesus, The One I praise today!

ANTHEM Holy Is He Claire Cloninger | DavidT.Clydesdale Summer Choir

Spirit of God, speak once again through the Words of Scripture that our listening ears may hear Your voice. Help us to place Your Word in our minds, treasure it in our hearts, choose it with our wills, and live it through our bodies. In Christ’s name we pray. Amen.

ASSURANCE OF PARDON (2 Corinthians 1:21-22)

Holy is He and great is His glory. Holy is He and worthy of our praise. I stand in His presence amazed, And crown Him with worship and praise! Holy is He,Holy is He,Holy is He.

Who hears me in my loneliness, Who finds me where I hide? Who knocks outside my broken heart, ‘Til I let Him inside? Whose life deserves the honor Laid before His throne? My Lord,my God,my Jesus, My Savior and my own!

PRAYER OF ILLUMINATION

PRAYER OF CONFESSION

1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.

18 The high mountains belong to the wild goats; the crags are a refuge for the hyrax.

He makes the clouds his chariot and rides on the wings of the wind.

5 He set the earth on its foundations; it can never be moved.

10 He makes springs pour water into the ravines; it flows between the mountains.

13 He waters the mountains from his upper chambers; the land is satisfied by the fruit of his work.

The trees of the Lord are well watered, the cedars of Lebanon that he planted.

24 How many are your works,Lord! In wisdom you made them all; the earth is full of your creatures.

27

14 He makes grass grow for the cattle, and plants for people to cultivate— bringing forth food from the earth:

Lord my God,you are very great; you are clothed with splendor and majesty.

The Lord wraps himself in light as with a garment; he stretches out the heavens like a tent

16

19

8 they flowed over the mountains, they went down into the valleys, to the place you assigned for them.

22 The sun rises, and they steal away; they return and lie down in their dens.

SCRIPTURE Genesis 1:1 NIV

All: Thanks be to God!

23 Then people go out to their work, to their labor until evening.

All creatures look to you to give them their food at the proper time.

26 There the ships go to and fro, and Leviathan, which you formed to frolic there.

28 When you give it to them, they gather it up; when you open your hand, they are satisfied with good things.

15 wine that gladdens human hearts, oil to make their faces shine, and bread that sustains their hearts.

25 There is the sea, vast and spacious, teeming with creatures beyond number— living things both large and small.

29 When you hide your face, they are terrified; when you take away their breath, they die and return to the dust.

21 The lions roar for their prey and seek their food from God.

PRAYERS OFTHE PEOPLE

3 and lays the beams of his upper chambers on their waters.

20 You bring darkness,it becomes night, and all the beasts of the forest prowl.

He made the moon to mark the seasons, and the sun knows when to go down.

4 He makes winds his messengers, flames of fire his servants.

1 Praise the Lord,my soul.

7 But at your rebuke the waters fled, at the sound of your thunder they took to flight;

11 They give water to all the beasts of the field; the wild donkeys quench their thirst.

30 When you send your Spirit, they are created, and you renew the face of the ground.

12 The birds of the sky nest by the waters; they sing among the branches.

9 You set a boundary they cannot cross; never again will they cover the earth.

6 You covered it with the watery depths as with a garment;thewaters stood above the mountains.

2

Leader: This is the word of the Lord.

Psalm 104:1-30

17 There the birds make their nests; the stork has its home in the junipers.

IN NEED OF PRAYER?

Author Jenny Albers describes beautifully how we work. She writes, “When someone is broken, don’t try to fix them… Instead, love them by walking beside them in the hurt… Because sometimes what people need is simply to know they aren’t alone” (Our Daily Bread, June 26, 2022).
