SERVICE FOR
LORD’S
GATHERING

*AFFIRMATION OF FAITH (Apostles’ Creed)

I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; He descended into hell; the third day He rose again from the dead; He ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence He shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost, The holy catholic church, The communion of saints, The forgiveness of sins, The resurrection of the body, And the life everlasting. Amen.

Sung to the tune of When I Survey the Wondrous Cross

PRAYER OF ILLUMINATION

Spirit of God, speak once again through the Words of Scripture that our listening ears may hear Your voice. Help us to place Your Word in our minds, treasure it in our hearts, choose it with our wills, and live it through our bodies. In Christ’s name we pray. Amen.

*DOXOLOGY HAMBURG

SCRIPTURE Genesis 12:1-4

1The Lord had said to Abram, “Go from your country, your people and your father’s household to the land I will show you.

2 “I will make you into a great nation, and I will bless you; I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing.

3 I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse; and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you.”

4 So Abram went, as the Lord had told him; and Lot went with him. Abram was seventy-five years old when he set out from Harran.

Leader: This is the word of the Lord.

All: Thanks be to God!

PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE

THE LORD’S PRAYER

CARING

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever. Amen.

GROWING

SCRIPTURE John 12:12-19

12 The next day the great crowd that had come for the festival heard that Jesus was on his way to Jerusalem.

13 They took palm branches and went out to meet him, shouting, “Hosanna!”

“Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!”

“Blessed is the king of Israel!”

14 Jesus found a young donkey and sat on it, as it is written:

15 “Do not be afraid, Daughter Zion; see, your king is coming, seated on a donkey’s colt.”

NIV
NIV

16 At first his disciples did not understand all this. Only after Jesus was glorified did they realize that these things had been written about him and that these things had been done to him.

17 Now the crowd that was with him when he called Lazarus from the tomb and raised him from the dead continued to spread the word. 18 Many people, because they had heard that he had performed this sign, went out to meet him. 19 So the Pharisees said to one another, “See, this is getting us nowhere. Look how the whole world has gone after him!”

Prepare Your Hearts

Prepare your hearts for worship, Declare a new dawn of grace, For soon will sound sweet music, A morning song of praise.

Above the silence soars a cry.

Our wounded world in hope replies:

O blessed is He who comes, who comes in the name of the Lord!

Prepare your hearts for worship, (Prepare the way of the Lord.)

Our miracle day is here. (Messiah is here.)

The silent night is over. (Prepare the way of the Lord.)

Salvation now is near; And from the wilds a voice astounds, Make straight a path, let hope resound.

O blessed is He who comes, who comes in the name of the Lord!

Prepare your hearts for worship, The promised One is near. Make straight the way in Zion, For soon He will appear.

The world will shout His glory. Our songs will share His story.

O blessed is He who comes, who comes in the name of the Lord!

Prepare your hearts for worship. (Prepare your hearts for Jesus.)

Declare a new dawn of grace. (He comes to claim His throne.) The Promise dwells among us.

Our hearts will be His home!

Above the silence soars a cry.

Our wounded world in hope replies:

O blessed is He who comes, who comes in the name of the Lord!

CANTATA From Silence to Song Joseph M. Martin Chancel Choir and Orchestra

Just Beyond the Palms

All glory, laud, and honor, to thee, Redeemer, King. We lift our songs as one, Our loud hosannas ring. Come, walk the way of palms with me.

Follow the One who comes to set His people free.

Behold your King! Behold your King!

The city gates are open wide. Great songs of praise are lifted to the Lord on high.

Behold your King! Behold your King!

Hosanna to the King of glory.

Is this Messiah? Where is His crown?

Is this the One? The question resounds!

Is this the Savior? Where is His robe?

Is this the King that was foretold?

Come see this miracle unfold!

Ride on, ride on in majesty, Walk on, walk on, and climb the hill to Calvary.

Behold your King! Behold your King!

Lift up your heads, Jerusalem.

See now the Lion goes to die, a Lamb!

Behold the Lamb! Behold the Lamb! Behold the Lamb of God!

Behold your King! Behold the Lamb, the Lamb of God!

In the Stillness of this Moment

In the stillness of this moment, in the quiet of this place, We pause in silent wonder at the miracle of grace. As our hearts reach out in mercy, heaven’s arms reach from above, And we touch the hope of glory and we hold the gift of love.

Oh, how marvelous! Oh, how wonderful! And my song shall ever be: Oh, how marvelous! Oh, how wonderful is my Savior’s love for me!

In the stillness of this moment, as we calm our hearts and minds, We feel Your tender mercy and the gift of peace divine. Let us gather at the table. Let us find our place of rest

Where the bread and wine of mercy feed our souls with heaven’s best.

In the stillness of this moment, as we give Christ full control, There is comfort for the weary, there is healing for the soul. And the tears of our surrender are an off’ring made of praise. For the wonder of salvation is a miracle of grace.

Oh, how marvelous! Oh, how wonderful! And my song shall ever be: Oh, how marvelous! Oh how wonderful is my Savior’s love for me!

In the stillness of this moment.

Silent Was the Night

Silent was the night in dark Gethsemane.

The Savior knelt to pray in deep humility.

Quiet were the stars that once had sung on high.

The birds all hushed their singing as the Lamb prepared to die.

Refrain: Worthy, worthy, worthy is the Lamb.

Silent was the night beneath the olive trees. The Savior cries alone, His heart in agony. Soon the noise of hate will echo through the night

And the silence will be broken by shouts of Crucify! Refrain

Lonesome winds began to blow. Tears began to fall

As Jesus took the bitter cup and chose to drink it all. Father, let Thy will be done. He prayed in deepest grief. With grace He rose to face the night, then turned toward Calvary. Refrain

The Lamb Is Silent Now

Christ spoke the Word and there was light. He made the earth and sky. He told the stars to find their place and bade each one to shine.

But now He stands in Pilate’s court, mute before the crowd.

On this day He’ll not be heard. The Lamb is silent now. The Lamb is silent now.

He spoke and fed the multitudes with blessings from above. He sang into our solitude with mercy and with love.

But, now He stands in Pilate’s court, mute before the crowd.

On this day He’ll not be heard. The Lamb is silent now. The Lamb is silent now.

They crucified my Lord, and He never said a mumbalin’ word. Not a word. Not a word. Not a word.

Though innocent of any crime He offers no defense. He stands accused before the mob. They sentence Him to death. One day He’ll shout the great “Amen” and all the world will bow. But, on this day, He’ll not be heard. The Lamb is silent now.
