WORDS OF WELCOME

CALL TO WORSHIP

Leader: God calls us from the routines of life.

People: God calls us to observe the Sabbath and renew our strength in the Spirit of God.

Leader: The Lord calls out, “Comfort! O Comfort My People!”

People: We hear God’s call, and with all our hearts we respond, “Here I am, Lord.”

Leader: Let us prepare our hearts for worship in prayer.

*AFFIRMATION OF FAITH (Apostles’ Creed)

I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; He descended into hell; the third day He rose again from the dead; He ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence He shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost, The holy catholic church, The communion of saints, The forgiveness of sins, The resurrection of the body, And the life everlasting. Amen.

*GLORY BE TO THE FATHER

PRAYER OF CONFESSION

Like so many people, Lord, there are times when we sing Your praises, but follow from a distance. We welcome You as long as You fit our expectations and answer our every whim. We are quick to point out the shortcomings of others, so as to excuse our own faults. Forgive us, Lord, and help us to become true disciples of Christ. Amen.

ASSURANCE OF PARDON (2 Corinthians 3:18)

Leader: And we all, who with unveiled faces contemplate the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into his image with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit. Therefore, let us assure one another of God’s pardon. All: In Jesus Christ, we are forgiven. Thanks be to God.

CARING

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever. Amen.
