Christian Education Initiative (CEI) Tom Masles
Leader: I waited patiently for the Lord.
People: He turned and heard my cry.
Leader: He lifted me up and out of the pit, out of the miry clay.
People: He set my feet upon the rock and made my footsteps secure.
Leader: Let us wait patiently for the Lord and turn to God in prayer.
*PRAYER OF INVOCATION
*HYMN A Mighty Fortress

*AFFIRMATION OF FAITH (Apostles’ Creed)
I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; He descended into hell; the third day He rose again from the dead; He ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence He shall come to judge the quick and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Ghost, The holy catholic church, The communion of saints, The forgiveness of sins, The resurrection of the body, And the life everlasting. Amen.
*GLORY BE TO THE FATHER

PRAYER OF CONFESSION
Lord, we confess the blindness that is not aware of sinning, the pride that dares not admit it is wrong, the self that sees nothing but its own will, the “righteousness” that knows no fault, and the callousness that has ceased to care. Forgive us, Lord, and make us more in Your image. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.
ASSURANCE OF PARDON (1 John 1:9)
Leader: If we confess our sins, God is faithful and just, and will forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. Therefore, let us assure one another of God’s pardon.
All: In Jesus Christ, we are forgiven. Thanks be to God.
ANTHEM
Healer of Our Every III
arr. Marty Haugen Chancel Choir; Micah White, soloist
Refrain: Healer of our every ill, light of each tomorrow, give us peace beyond our fear, and hope beyond our sorrow.
You who know our fears and sadness, grace us with your peace and gladness; Spirit of all comfort, fill our hearts. Refrain
In the pain and joy beholding how your grace is still unfolding, give us all your vision, God of love. Refrain
Give us strength to love each other, every sister, every brother; Spirit of all kindness, be our guide. Refrain
You who know each thought and feeling, teach us all your way of healing; Spirit of compassion, fill each heart. Refrain
PRAYER OF ILLUMINATION

Just a Closer Walk with Thee

THE JOURNEY TO THE CROSS

It can be difficult to hold onto your faith when things go terribly wrong Sometimes when we are suffering, we can be so overwhelmed by the moment that we don’t pay attention to what God is telling us We might even verbalize the solution to a caring friend and not really hear it until they reflect the words back to us Let your own faith be supported by the faith of others This is how the Walking Beside team ministers to others, by listening and reflecting back what was heard Team members are Christ caring for people, through people If you need a good listener, give one of us a call
