PRELUDE WORDS OF WELCOME MINUTE FOR MISSION– Leigh Zydonik, Executive Director of the Foothills Food Bank *CALL TO WORSHIP (Romans 1:16-17) Leader: People: Leader: People: Leader: People: Leader:

I am not ashamed of the gospel, For it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek. For in it the righteousness of God is revealed From faith to faith; As it is written, The righteous shall live by faith. Let us worship the Lord with faith and hope worthy of our calling.

*PRAYER OF INVOCATION *HYMN #151 A Mighty Fortress Is Our God During the third verse, the congregation is invited to meditate silently as the organ depicts the text.

*AFFIRMATION OF FAITH (Apostles’ Creed) I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ His only Son our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; He descended into hell; the third day He rose again from the dead; He ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence He shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen. *GLORY BE TO THE FATHER #813 Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost, as it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, world without end. Amen, amen.

PRAYER OF CONFESSION Almighty and loving God, all of us here today are hurting... Some of us as a result of circumstances beyond our control... Others because of our own choices… And those who are feeling the pain of others. Yet, no matter what the circumstances, help us remember who we are: sinners saved by grace. Lord, for the times we have failed to show Your compassion to others, to trust You – forgive us! Help us to remember anew that You are the Giver of mercy and wholeness, provided for us through Your Son’s death and resurrection. Heal our brokenness and make us whole once more. In Christ’s Holy Name we pray. Amen. ASSURANCE 1 John 1:9 Leader: If we confess our sins, God is faithful and just, and will forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. Therefore, let us assure one another of God’s pardon. All: In Jesus Christ, we are forgiven. Thanks be to God. ANTHEM

Alleluia, Alleluia Chancel Choir

Music: Janice Kapp Perry Text: Orrin Hatch

Alleluia, alleluia, I have come to know my Lord! Alleluia, alleluia, I embrace His holy word. Alleluia, alleluia, I will boldly stand with Him. Alleluia, I am now a Christian soldier in this world of sin.

Alleluia, alleluia, I will serve Him with my might. Alleluia, alleluia, I will stand for truth and light. Alleluia, alleluia, I will shout it to the earth. Alleluia, alleluia, all may enter Jesus’ kingdom through a second birth.

Alleluia, alleluia, God has won my heart today. Alleluia, alleluia, I have found the narrow way. Alleluia, alleluia, He is in my heart and mind. Alleluia, alleluia, Great Redeemer came to save mankind.

Alleluia, alleluia, my desire is burning bright. Alleluia, alleluia, I am filled with heaven’s light! Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia!

I will serve Him willingly as others throughout history gave themselves to His great work, to help His kingdom grow on earth.

PRAYER OF ILLUMINATION Spirit of God, speak once again through the Words of Scripture that our listening ears may hear Your voice. Help us to place Your Word in our minds, treasure it in our hearts, choose it with our wills, and live it through our bodies. In Christ’s name we pray. Amen.

SCRIPTURE Job 2:1-10 On another day the angels came to present themselves before the Lord, and Satan also came with them to present himself before him. And the Lord said to Satan, “Where have you come from?” Satan answered the Lord, “From roaming throughout the earth, going back and forth on it.” Then the Lord said to Satan, “Have you considered my servant Job? There is no one on earth like him; he is blameless and upright, a man who fears God and shuns evil. And he still maintains his integrity, though you incited me against him to ruin him without any reason.” “Skin for skin!” Satan replied. “A man will give all he has for his own life. But now stretch out your hand and strike his flesh and bones, and he will surely curse you to your face.” The Lord said to Satan, “Very well, then, he is in your hands; but you must spare his life.” So Satan went out from the presence of the Lord and afflicted Job with painful sores from the soles of his feet to the crown of his head. Then Job took a piece of broken pottery and scraped himself with it as he sat among the ashes. His wife said to him, “Are you still maintaining your integrity? Curse God and die!” He replied, “You are talking like a foolish woman. Shall we accept good from God, and not trouble?” In all this, Job did not sin in what he said. Leader: This is the word of the Lord. All: Thanks be to God! PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE THE LORD’S PRAYER Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.

SCRIPTURE Job 21:11-13 When Job’s three friends, Eliphaz the Temanite, Bildad the Shuhite and Zophar the Naamathite, heard about all the troubles that had come upon him, they set out from their homes and met together by agreement to go and sympathize with him and comfort him. When they saw him from a distance, they could hardly recognize him; they began to weep aloud, and they tore their robes and sprinkled dust on their heads. Then they sat on the ground with him for seven days and seven nights. No one said a word to him, because they saw how great his suffering was. SERMON *HYMN #526

“FAITH & FAITHFUL” My Hope Is Built on Nothing Less

*BENEDICTION & RESPONSE Now Unto Him Now unto Him who is able to keep you from falling And to make you stand in His presence blameless and with great joy. WALKING BESIDE MINISTRY Think of a time when you really felt cared for. Chances are someone focused on what you had to say, was attentive to your needs, and listened to how you felt instead of telling you how you should feel or what you should do. Our Walking Beside Ministry is a ministry of listening. Listening is one of the most powerful ministry tools at our disposal. It demonstrates that you care about the other person. It’s listening in such a way as to be able to feel what someone else is truly feeling. Would you like to have a good listener sit with you for a while? If so, contact Pastor Brett, Pastor Jim, or any one of our team members.
