PRAYER OF CONFESSION We repent, Lord, of all the ways we doubt your promises. Open our hearts to the reality more true than anything we can now perceive: There will be a New Heaven and a New Earth. Forgive us for our words and actions that have not prepared the way for your coming kingdom. Help us to live our lives in anticipation of this sure conclusion and share the gospel of your Son, Jesus Christ. ASSURANCE OF PARDON (2 Corinthians 1:21-22) Leader: It is God who makes us stand firm in Christ. He anointed us, set his seal of ownership on us, and put his Spirit in our hearts as a deposit, guaranteeing what is to come. Therefore, let us assure one another of God's pardon. All: In Jesus Christ, we are forgiven. Thanks be to God. EASTER RESPONSE Sing twice.
PRAYER OF ILLUMINATION Spirit of God, speak once again through the Words of Scripture that our listening ears may hear Your voice. Help us to place Your Word in our minds, treasure it in our hearts, choose it with our wills, and live it through our bodies. In Christ’s name we pray. Amen. SCRIPTURE Revelation 21:1-14 Then I saw “a new heaven and a new earth,” for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and there was no longer any sea. I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Look! God’s dwelling place is now among the people, and he will dwell with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God. ‘He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death’ or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.” He who was seated on the throne said, “I am making everything new!” Then he said, “Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true.” He said to me: “It is done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. To the thirsty I will give water without cost from the spring of the water of life. Those who are victorious will inherit all this, and I will be their God and they will be my children. But the cowardly, the unbelieving, the vile, the murderers, the sexually immoral, those who practice magic arts, the idolaters and all liars—they will be consigned to the fiery lake of burning sulfur. This is the second death.” One of the seven angels who had the seven bowls full of the seven last plagues came and said to me, “Come, I will show you the bride, the wife of the Lamb.” And he carried me away in the Spirit to a mountain great and high, and showed me the Holy City, Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God. It shone with the glory of God, and its brilliance was like that of a very precious jewel, like a jasper, clear as crystal. It had a great, high wall with twelve gates, and with twelve angels at the gates. On the gates were written the names of the twelve tribes of Israel. There were three gates on the east, three on the north, three on the south and three on the west. The wall of the city had twelve foundations, and on them were the names of the twelve apostles of the Lamb. Leader: This is the word of the Lord. All: Thanks be to God! PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE THE LORD’S PRAYER Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.
*HYMN
Soon and Very Soon The choir will sing verse 1. Please join in singing verses 2-4.
OFFERINGS OF THE PEOPLE
OFFERTORY
Shall We Gather at the River Chancel Choir; Heather Baldwin, saxophone
Shall we gather at the river, where bright angel feet have trod, with its crystal tide forever flowing by the throne of God? Yes, we’ll gather at the river, the beautiful, the beautiful river; gather with the saints at the river that flows by the throne of God.
On the margins of the river, washing up its silver spray, we will walk and worship ever all the happy golden day. Yes! We’ll gather at the river, the beautiful, the beautiful river; gather with the saints at the river that flows by the throne of God.
*DOXOLOGY #815 Praise God from whom all blessings flow. Praise Him, all creatures here below. Praise Him above, ye heav’nly host. Praise Father, Son and Holy Ghost. Amen
OLD HUNDREDTH
*PRAYER OF DEDICATION SCRIPTURE Revelation 21:22-22:7 I did not see a temple in the city, because the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are its temple. The city does not need the sun or the moon to shine on it, for the glory of God gives it light, and the Lamb is its lamp. The nations will walk by its light, and the kings of the earth will bring their splendor into it. On no day will its gates ever be shut, for there will be no night there. The glory and honor of the nations will be brought into it. Nothing impure will ever enter it, nor will anyone who does what is shameful or deceitful, but only those whose names are written in the Lamb’s book of life. Then the angel showed me the river of the water of life, as clear as crystal, flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb down the middle of the great street of the city. On each side of the river stood the tree of life, bearing twelve crops of fruit, yielding its fruit every month. And the leaves of the tree are for the healing of the nations. No longer will there be any curse. The throne of God and of the Lamb will be in the city, and his servants will serve him. They will see his face, and his name will be on their foreheads. There will be no more night. They will not need the light of a lamp or the light of the sun, for the Lord God will give them light. And they will reign for ever and ever. The angel said to me, “These words are trustworthy and true. The Lord, the God who inspires the prophets, sent his angel to show his servants the things that must soon take place.” “Look, I am coming soon! Blessed is the one who keeps the words of the prophecy written in this scroll.” SERMON

WALKING BESIDE MINISTRY As we have learned from the sermons on Job the last several weeks, the Lord allows pain in our life. Sometimes He even orchestrates it. Trials often strengthen our faith, make us more like Jesus, and give us compassion for others. With His help, we profit immensely more from walking through the pain than from trying to avoid it. Walking Beside team members are here to walk with you through times like Job’s by providing encouragement, inspiration, and hope through the presence of Christ’s love. We look forward to hearing from you. (Our ministry relies solely on funds raised; we are not funded by the church operating budget.) Laurann Cook Barb Conti Joe Gilleland Steve Haver Moon Kahn

MORNING STRETCH AT THE ROCKS
Did you notice the new banners? The DHPC Worship Committee realized that our church has banners for many seasons of the church year but we were missing other important seasons - namely: Ash Wednesday, Palm Sunday, Maundy Thursday and Good Friday. So a committee was formed to design and create banners to fill that void with new works of art. The first banner debuted on Ash Wednesday and the next three debuted during Holy Week. Ash Wednesday - This banner, purposefully stark in color, represents the beginning of the penitential Lenten season. Repentance and brokenness are depicted through the black jagged shapes. The white shapes depict our longing for redemption. Palm Sunday, the 1st day of Holy Week - This banner depicts the Christian worshippers waving palm branches as they celebrated Jesus’ triumphal entry into Jerusalem. Maundy Thursday - Jesus, on that day, washed the feet of His disciples, displaying His humility. He asks us to do the same by loving and serving others. It was also the day of His final Passover meal with His disciples. The bread and cup of wine signify His sacrifice for us all. Good Friday - Christ suffered and died for all of our sins. This banner is meant to depict His awful pain as He shed His precious blood for our sin in order to give us new life in HIM.
