*AFFIRMATION OF FAITH (Apostles’ Creed) I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; He descended into hell; the third day He rose again from the dead; He ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence He shall come to judge the quick and the dead. #813

PRAYER OF CONFESSION Gracious Lord, in Jesus Christ You have given us the Light of the world. Forgive us when we choose darkness and cling to sins that hide the brightness of Your love. Renew our lives, and set us free to reflect Your love to the entire world. All this we ask, so that we may be prepared for Christ’s coming. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen. ASSURANCE Leader: All:

I John 1:9 If we confess our sins, God is faithful and just, and will forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. Therefore, let us assure one another of God’s pardon. In Jesus Christ, we are forgiven. Amen.

RESPONSE Sing twice.

ANTHEM

We Know that Christ Is Raised Chancel Choir

We know that Christ is raised and dies no more. Embraced by death, He broke its fearful hold, And our despair He turned to blazing joy. Alleluia!

arr. Hal H. Hopson

We share by water in His saving death. Reborn, we share with Him an Easter life As living members of a living Christ. Alleluia!

A new creation comes to life and grows As Christ’s new body takes on flesh and blood. The universe restored and whole will sing: Alleluia!

PRAYER OF ILLUMINATION Spirit of God, speak once again through the Words of Scripture that our listening ears may hear Your voice. Help us to place Your Word in our minds, treasure it in our hearts, choose it with our wills, and live it through our bodies. In Christ’s name we pray. Amen. SCRIPTURE

I John 3:1-10

See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him. Dear friends, now we are children of God, and what we will be has not yet been made known. But we know that when Christ appears, we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is. All who have this hope in him purify themselves, just as he is pure. Everyone who sins breaks the law; in fact, sin is lawlessness. But you know that he appeared so that he might take away our sins. And in him is no sin. No one who lives in him keeps on sinning. No one who continues to sin has either seen him or known him. Dear children, do not let anyone lead you astray. The one who does what is right is righteous, just as he is righteous. The one who does what is sinful is of the devil, because the devil has been sinning from the beginning. The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the devil’s work. No one who is born of God will continue to sin, because God’s seed remains in them; they cannot go on sinning, because they have been born of God. This is how we know who the children of God are and who the children of the devil are: Anyone who does not do what is right is not God’s child, nor is anyone who does not love their brother and sister. Leader: This is the word of the Lord. All: Thanks be to God! PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE THE LORD’S PRAYER Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.

OLD HUNDREDTH

*PRAYER OF DEDICATION SCRIPTURE

1 Corinthians 15:35-49

But someone will ask, “How are the dead raised? With what kind of body will they come?” How foolish! What you sow does not come to life unless it dies. When you sow, you do not plant the body that will be, but just a seed, perhaps of wheat or of something else. But God gives it a body as he has determined, and to each kind of seed he gives its own body. Not all flesh is the same: People have one kind of flesh, animals have another, birds another and fish another. There are also heavenly bodies and there are earthly bodies; but the splendor of the heavenly bodies is one kind, and the splendor of the earthly bodies is another. The sun has one kind of splendor, the moon another and the stars another; and star differs from star in splendor.

So will it be with the resurrection of the dead. The body that is sown is perishable, it is raised imperishable; it is sown in dishonor, it is raised in glory; it is sown in weakness, it is raised in power; it is sown a natural body, it is raised a spiritual body. If there is a natural body, there is also a spiritual body. So it is written: “The first man Adam became a living being”; the last Adam, a life-giving spirit. The spiritual did not come first, but the natural, and after that the spiritual. The first man was of the dust of the earth; the second man is of heaven. As was the earthly man, so are those who are of the earth; and as is the heavenly man, so also are those who are of heaven. And just as we have borne the image of the earthly man, so shall we bear the image of the heavenly man.

SERMON *HYMN

“WHAT WILL OUR RESURRECTED BODIES LOOK LIKE?”

Pastor Jim Noble

Thine Is the Glory

*BENEDICTION & RESPONSE Now unto Him Now unto Him who is able to keep you from falling And to make you stand in His presence blameless and with great joy. To the only God, our Savior, through Jesus Christ, our Lord, Be the glory and the majesty, dominion and authority, Both now and forever. Amen! *POSTLUDE Dr. Natalie Mealey, organ

WALKING BESIDE MINISTRY As we have learned from the sermons on Job the last several weeks, the Lord allows pain in our life. Sometimes He even orchestrates it. Trials often strengthen our faith, make us more like Jesus, and give us compassion for others. With His help, we profit immensely more from walking through the pain than from trying to avoid it. Walking Beside team members are here to walk with you through times like Job’s by providing encouragement, inspiration, and hope through the presence of Christ’s love. We look forward to hearing from you. (Our ministry relies solely on funds raised; we are not funded by the church operating budget.) Laurann Cook Barb Conti Joe Gilleland Steve Haver Moon Kahn
